Got caught out today by Gearbest and PayPal - BEWARE

Hi all,
I jumped on the Gearbest 5 USB LED bandwagon today, and ordered 2 sets (10 in all), total $2.64. I was using the IPAD, and Gearbest said you can login via Facebook, which I did.
I ordered my 2 sets of LED's, and selected Paypal to pay. It then redirected me to Paypal, I logged in, confirmed payment and saw my shipping address. All good.
Some time later today, checking the Gearbest confirmation, it suddenly shows the shipping address as something that was almost 3 years out of date, and actually now a vacant factory site. I thought that Paypal must have provided them this address, but checking again, I only have the one and only shipping address on Paypal.
I then discovered that years before, I must have signed into Gearbest and bought something, and then I did find something that I had bought from them over 3 years ago for 1 cent! And embedded in the account area was my old shipping address.

So beware, I fully expected them to honour the Paypal provided shipping address but no they don't.

I'm filthy I won't ever receive my 10 LED's and annoyed that via the IPAD it wasn't clear where they were sending it. Maybe it was there, maybe it wasn't. I told their livechat that I think they should be honouring the Paypal provided shipping address as it will remain far more updated than their records. But I think it went over their head. I'm not sure if I'll bother with Gearbest again.
Moral, if you use Gearbest, and particularly if you haven't logged in and purchased anything for quite a while, check your account shipping details and do not rely on them honouring the Paypal shipping address!

So you didn't change your address at Gearbest and now you think that it's their fault.

No its not their fault. But having logged in over 3 years ago to buy a 1 cent item, I forgot. And I thought like most merchants (eg Ebay), when you use Paypal, Paypal insist on the seller of goods to use their pre-configured shipping address. Maybe Paypal only insist on Ebay sellers to do this because they are related.

      • Not sure why getting negged when he said it's not Gearbest fault. He made a simple mistake which could happen to anyone due to the way the website operates, tried to rectify the issue first by contacting them and is now merely sharing his experience to warn others.

im with Diji on this. not gearbest or paypals fault. its pure and simple user error.

      im with Diji on this

      Me too.

I'm going to have a lie-down, I think I may have signed into Parallel Universe OzBargain.

Can't you contact them and make sure the new address is used?

    • I tried to, but they said the item was already shipped. For a $2.64 item I'm disappointed I won't receive it, but very lucky I didn't buy anything too expensive. Their Livechat abilities at night seem to be a bit limited..

Title of this thread should be "Got caught out today by user error - BEWARE".

  • I can sympathize with you on this, a similar thing happened to me but the other way around. Not with Gearbest.

I ordered something online and filled out the shipping details on the purchasing website, then paid with Paypal. I hadn't used Paypal for a few years and it automatically sent my old postal address to the website. Even though I had provided my current address when I made the purchase. How was I to know that Paypal passes your delivery address when you make a purchase - I hadn't used it for many years?

Anyway, my mistake was sorted, and I put it down to lesson learned. You should too.

    Just pay the $2.64 again…
    Heck
PM me and i will pay it for you.

    • Would you give me the money?

      • Sure.
        Just PM me the details…

        • +1

          Thanks.

Could you spare something like $300?

        • +1

          Sure. :)
What do you need it for?

        • @0p:

Just the usual Ozbargain stuff, Domino's, Eneloops, KFC nuggets and Nespresso Pods.

  • Hmmm … just reading this post and wondering where my min usb lights are …… Same issue ;-(

I'd agree its a user issue, but the order process is flawed, my mini lights are headed for the office I occupied 3 yeara ago….

    EDIT:
I have a feeling that when logging in via facebook and completing the transaction via Paypal - the user isn't actually presented with their actual ship to address. Just going through my gearbest profile linked to my facebook account, my OLD address is the only address listed in the profile and I'm reasonably certain I wouldn't have clicked through to have the item shipped to that address.

  • check your account shipping details and do not rely on them honouring the Paypal shipping address!

Just do a PayPal claim if it bothers you that much or you think it's worth it.

The seller has to ship to the PayPal address, and as they didn't do that, they would lose a claim.

  • Hi Canopus ,

Could you pls pm me your order number and let me check if we can fix this address for you?

    Thanks,

    Sunny

  • BEWARE - USER ERROR. You can't foolproof everything to compensate for the OP's failure to update the address on the account.

    • Although it was user error, Gearbest should always ship to the PayPal address, otherwise they leave themselves open to claims.

  • Would it be possible to sign up to Australia Post to redirect the mail received to that old address? Possibly if you had an old ID or electricity bill you could explain the situation to Aust Post and hopefully get your package redirected.

  • I think it's paypal's fault, because I moved house 2 weeks back and last week I tried to buy some wipers for my car and paypal ended up sending it to my old address, luckily I spotted it and rang the company selling and got it diverted to new address.

Then logged into paypal to see if my address was updated or not, found out it was updated but paypal had a glitch and sent it to old address.

    • Paypal is rubbish these days.

Edit your details -print out the changes - go back - see if they're still there.

If they have rolled the site back or whatever it is they keep doing the changes will be gone.

Keep doing it till they stick.

yep I know it sounds strange but that's PAYPAL at the moment.

No-one deals with this garbage at Paypal- buts its happening to a few people.

  • I got caught out in a similar way by Coles.

I had been having my groceries delivery weekly for years and when I moved house I decided to continue to use their service.

I went through and did my order exactly the same as I had in the past and would you believe they delivered it to my old address!!! At first I thought maybe it was my fault for not telling them I'd moved but when I contacted them and they apologised I decided it's obviously there fault and demanded free stuff.

They didn't give me anything free so I'll take this chance to rage on the internet. BEWARE EVERYONE!!! After I made a new account with Woolworths I didn't experience the problems of them delivering to my old address so I thought it was only a Coles issue but now I see gearbest also deliver to the address listed in their system and just hope you are still living there.

  • I'm filthy I won't ever receive my 10 LED's

Doesn't it just rile you up. $2.64, stolen straight out o' yo pocket. Imagine the long term consequences..

Like, what if you live a good life, save all you can, but then you get to the pearly gates, and you're $2.64 short?

Gearbest just cost you a life of bliss. I'm not sure you can afford to let this one go man, the stakes are too high

  • What the hell.. Se thing happened to me today. I got a confirmationand receipt showing current address but got an email of shipped goods mentioning my old address. Is it my fault? People above are just nuts and trolls saying its a users fault. Receipt shows shipping info with new address but they still sending item to an old address. Wtf.

  • If anyone finds a vacant factory site with a pile of Gearbest satchets out the front, please let me know….I've got several powerbanks I would like to use.
