  • it says you get 4 maps per year for a lifetime. not bad

  • out of interest, does 'lifetime' refer to the buyer's lifetime or the product's? I read somewhere the standard product support period for gps units is supposed to be 3 years, does lifetime=3 years in this case?

    • Yeah, I'd be interested to hear from someone in the know on this one too! :)

From a layman's perspective, I'd like to think the legislation would follow what a "reasonable person" could surmise a "lifetime" entails; which should be however long the purchaser chose to own the device! ;)

Great deal if map updates are free.

EDIT: To be eligible to claim, individuals must, during the Promotional Period, purchase any Garmin nüvi or zumo product (excluding nüvi 255) from any authorised Garmin retailer. Purchases made through any online bidding or auction websites are not permitted.

To claim, individuals must then visit www.garmin.com.au, follow the prompts to the competition entry page, input the requested details, attach a scanned copy of their purchase receipt(s) and barcode(s) or upload a photograph of their purchase receipt(s) and barcode(s) and submit the fully completed online entry form by 5.00pm AEDST on 15/10/2010. Claims received after this date will be deemed invalid and ineligible.

  • Its amazing how Tom Tom can offer 30 days of maps and $120 from then on, and now we have this. I wonder how long it really lasts.

Then again I have a feeling they will just stop supporting all versions of their GPS software or something else so you have to upgrade. Otherwise this $168 would last you a lifetime, where most people buy new GPS's every 2-3 years.

You'd be surprised at the amount of "slippage" that goes on with all these redemption offers (even cashbacks); that's what the industry thrives on!

Not me, I'm the first one thru the Post Office doors to send mine in; registered mail; every time! ;)

  • If this is the same one sold here, than it seems to have good reviews.

  • Does it have speed camera and red light camera detectors? Anyone knows how much OW sell for (hoping I can get even cheaper lol)

Well, if OrificeWurst will PM this, you'll save the princely sum of eight bucks; now, I dunno what your time & effort is worth, but to go there, spend perhaps the better part of an hour arguing with the fools, with the distinct possibility that they'll weasel out with some lame excuse anyway…well, you see where I'm going with this…I'm no Donald Trump, but my time's more valuable to me than that! Your call though! ;)

Hi all, I have this GPS. (bought 1 yr ago) It is a superceded model, not being made anymore so it might be difficult to find at another shop. DSE have the 3.5 inch 255 with a free case for $168 but this model does not qualify for the free map offer. (shows you this one from jb is a good deal). It is a very good price for a basic GPS. It functions well, the touch screen can lag a bit and is not as responsive as newer models, but for those looking for a easy to use and pretty reliable GPS for the price and the free updates you can't go wrong. I downloaded free red light camera, school zones etc from garmin website a year ago - I don't think you can do this anymore. It does not have bluetooth or lifetime traffic. Free updates means for the life of that model as I understand it.

    • If you don't mind doing this.. Can you double check on whether or not you can still download free red light camera, school zones, etc. pretty please?

  • this has always been the price at officeworks….

  • I am in the market for a new GPS as my old one went up in flames (literally) with my car on Friday morning.

    Pity it wasn't insured….

Anyway I had a Navman MY55T or something like that but wasn't that impressed with it. Should I go Navman again or look at TomTom or Garmin?

The lifetime map deal looks good if I can get it….

Your car went up in flames? What exactly happened?

      • +1

Someone broke into it and set it alight - either that or the NAVMAN which was plugged in started the fire…

Car was old and not comprehensively insured. Probably worth about $4k…

Fire brigade had to come to put out the blaze around 2am here in Waitara. That timing suggests foul play more likely.

True story, burnt out wreck still parked on the road…

Lost my GPS, kids car seats, a nintendo DS, some tools and various other stuff too. Last time I don't insure even an old bomb.

Flew to Melbourne last night and picked up a replacement car this morning - 2005 Nissan Maxima - drove back today…

        • Wow… I feel sorry for you… I hope the bad guy gets caught next time, if he hasn't….

      • Thats why i got fire and theft for like $50 a year. not worth comprehensive insurance on a car <5k

  • This looks like the 255W, which unfortunately doesn't have bluetooth but otherwise would be good.

This price has been around for this model for a couple months now though.

    • it also don't have lane guidance…
I have never seen this though… Is it good to have lane guidance?

  • Bought one (fathers day gift) from Watergardens JB (victoria), they actually have them for $162.00 in store.
FYI- when these came out they were RRP 399.00 according to the Garmin website which lists this model as discontinued. Considering price and free map updates you cant go wrong.
One more FYI, if you want tosave abit more and don't care about map updates (?), you can get the 260 model at JB online ONLY for $150.00, this model seems to have decent reviews, again for $12.00 more, I would buy… as I have :) this unit.
