if you use the dark web, you dont talk about it.

My concern is I have to adjust my monitor's brightness whenever I go to the dark web. So much work to readjust them, you know?

Have a screen that is HDR, then the dark areas have details you can see.
      😀

Never tried the dark web, though some of the stuff I've 'sampled', back in the early days when 4chan didn't have as many moderators (and people posted all kinds of stuff) was absolutely terrifying.

I was so afraid of getting tracked by the fuzz, I called TPG ADSL and paid $10 to have my IP address changed, since I was on a static address.

It's too dark to ever talk about. Will take it with me to my grave.

    • Bear in mind the biggest funder of stuff like Tor is the US State department.
Presumably, the op is mainly interested in buying drugs, but the Tor network anonymity is hugely beneficial for people seeking to communicate very privately, such as political dissidents in oppressive regimes, intelligence agents, pedophiles, snuff peddlers etc.

When I worked at an isp dealing with stuff like that in the 1990s, there were some pretty out there sites, though back then they were just unadvertised http and ftp sites, as I am sure the majority still are. I think the trick is to lose your signal in the noise of others - so using Tor might indicate your signal is worth following, and if you assume multiple onion routers will be sampling everything that goes through, I would hesitate to use it lightly.

I don't believe the US State Department has ever been involved with Tor.

However the intelligence arm of the US Navy was heavily involved in it's beginnings and may have continued funding it.

It needs a Ozbargain alternative.. dark bargain

  • overrated

  • i've used the darkweb (it's worth stating that the darkweb is not all illegal. The Dark Web is simply classified as a small portion of the Deep Web that has been intentionally hidden and is inaccessible through standard web browsers. if you use onion links for TOR for example, that is darkweb)

I have used it as part of my degree (i'm studying a bachelors in IT. i used it in an Information security class)

it's not that great TBH. it's hard to navigate and you need to know exactly where to go. it's easier just to use the surface web

So is it cool? Are you an analyst like the chick in transformers?

      • nah, it's jus not useful. hard to navigate and slow.

i'm a final year IT student at the moment whilst working in telco.

Freaks me out. I've been in the dark web and I don't know if the spider is there too or not.

I got lights in my PC case, so I'm all set to light up the dark!

How Is Your Experience with Dark Web?

    Any bargains?

(Phrase used without permission of JV)

  • the deep web or the dark web. which one is better?

    • The deepweb is a place only super hackers can reach.

  • +3

    Nice try FBI :p

Honestly though never tried it, kind of interested purely for the fact that its deemed as "dark" and "deep" but honestly can't think of anything that would be on there that I'd care for, or that I couldn't do on the normal net.

  • Don't do it. There is a high chance that you will end up seeing something that you will regret for the rest of your life

  • Slow and not very reliable connection. Is good for illegal drugs. You will get much better information on reddit than here.
