Virgin Round The World Fare Economy Fares from $1376. Book before Midnight May 15th @ Roundabout Travel

1420

*** Deal extended until May 15th ***

Wow. Simply amazing price for a RTW fare. The lowest I've seen announced by far. Fares have to be booked by the 2nd of May, so get in quick!

All airfares include taxes, luggage, food and drinks (including alcohol)

EDIT 30/04

I reached out to the Director of Roundabout Travel as there seems to be so many doubters of the price and availability, as well as people thinking they are some kind of bait and click setup. They have definitely noticed the spike in queries from past posts, and aim to answer in full, all questions within 24 hours during business hours. They are an independant outfit in Adelaide that aren't open on the weekends, so please try and be patient this weekend. They are very happy to answer any questions you have, however in regards to this specific post, here is some routing restrictions.

To get the $1376 price listed you MUST stick to the cities listed. No if's or buts, that's just the way the ticket is ruled from Virgin. Example choose LA or San Fran, you can't have both. Stick the example routes listed below and you shouldn't have any issues getting the advertised price. The price point is based on low season and discount economy seats which have been pretty easy to get with this deal. High season rates easy to get and still very cheap.

It sounds as though the price is easily achievable, so as long as you don't go in with unattainable routing for the advertised price, there shouldn't be any issues.

Here is proof the tickets are actually available, following the RTW ticketing rules and dates

Following the below routing guidelines, once you have your perfect itinerary, you can then give them a call or an email which will save time for them to get it organised for you! The tool can be found here http://www.roundabouttravel.com.au/plan-my-trip/

You could also get a basic price from these guys and then take into your local Flight Centre for price match if you wish to physically speak to a human. Unless you're in Adelaide and then you can simply go to Roundabout Travel and ask them yourselves.

Seems great. Usually when you have an itinerary which includes North America in it, all on the same itinerary, you get two bags throughout the entire journey. Even parts that do not involve that continent. Providing that it is on the same payment, same itinerary. The last time this was confirmed to me was about s vent years ago when someone booked a RTW and I told them they needed to push it. They were successful. Things may have changed.

I had to give them all my contact details and set up an account. No pricing given. Disappointing.

God I wish I had the time to do that

    • Ditto…..

  • +14

    From $1376 inc taxes

this is a travel site where you submit you details and wait for a "travel agent" to call you up……

    bait and bullsh!t

with out any solid evidence of a deal here……and unfortunately I upvoted before checking the deal. now I can't neg it.

OP - can you actually provide a single trip/itinerary with a price for this deal?

    • Couldn't agree more! Sounds like they want to increase their mailing list.

    • +5

I've used these guys before and the pricing is accurate.

      • +11

yeah, but I don't need a helicopter BB

    • +6

Did you miss the part where it says you can just give them a call?

I have used these guys before and beat any flight centre quote. I leave on a RTW flight in 4 weeks and I just got my ticket quote confirmed yesterday (not this particular deal as I needed Africa) and the quote was from eight weeks ago, still valid, still had seat availability except for one short leg which was booked out but available one day prior or after.

Talk about being paranoid for no reason…

      • +5

Some people are just hard to please and try and find the negative in everything don't they?

Eitherway, I reached out to the Director and added an edit above, it's hard as people won't be having their queries answered until Monday, however I'm sure all of those that have enquired will be happy.

As they're not open on weekends I cannot get an exact quote from them today, however I went to skyscanner and used the ticketing rules provided and was able to get direct flights at only $5 more expensive than the advertised offer.

If you can't wait for them to get back to you until tomorrow, print that out and take it into Flight Centre today and have them price match.

      • $1,358.80 on the JetAbroad website today.

  • +1

    "…from $1376…"

    Good luck getting that price…

  • then take into your local Flight Centre for price match

    Yeah, good luck with that.

  • +1

Which dates and stops are available for this price?

    • +3

Probably none, but here's the constraints:

      Seasons:
      24 April - 14 June 2017
      27 Sept - 25 November 2017
      11 Feb - 31 March 2018

      Stopover Options:
      Asia: Hong Kong
      European cities: London
North American cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco

    • +3

      Sweet, I rescind my skepticism.

      • Bless you mskeggs

  • +6

It's not anywhere near as flexible as most RTW fares. Only Asia option is Hong Kong and only Europe option is London. More like a Aus-LHR fare (including stopover) with a stop in LA on the way back than a real RTW

  • +2

    $1,376 for London return IMO
Just a short stop for fuel in Singapore and LA…

  • +19

This is a fare offered by Virgin Atlantic.

For all the naysayers that claim you can't find this fare at all, here is proof that the fare prices up and is available:

    https://pastebin.com/raw/EcjeTKgb

Classes required: O on QF, T on VA, O on VS, L on MU

The lead in published retail price is actually $1275 as per the pastebin above.

Prices originating in MEL, SYD, PER or BNE are very similar except for some tax differences. Fare not available from ADL - you need to buy a separate domestic ticket to get to MEL/SYD/BNE/PER.

Routing options (you can go in an east or west direction):

    Originating MEL:

Melbourne (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Hong Kong (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Melbourne

Melbourne (China Eastern) Shanghai (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Melbourne

    Originating SYD:

Sydney (Virgin Australia) Melbourne (Virgin Australia) Hong Kong (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Sydney

Sydney (Qantas) Hong Kong (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Sydney

Sydney (Qantas/China Eastern/Air China) Shanghai (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Sydney

    Originating BNE:

Brisbane (Virgin Australia) Melbourne (Virgin Australia) Hong Kong (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Brisbane

Brisbane (Qantas) Hong Kong (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Brisbane

    Originating PER:

Perth (Virgin Australia) Melbourne (Virgin Australia) Hong Kong (Virgin Atlantic) London (Virgin Atlantic) San Francisco OR Los Angeles (Qantas/Virgin Australia) Brisbane OR Sydney OR Melbourne (Virgin Australia) Perth

    • thanks for posting this but where did you make this booking enquiry?

(which is also $100 cheaper than what the OP has posted)

      • +1

I have access to a GDS to price and issue a ticket for this myself.

It's available to any travel agent to sell, not just Roundabout.

        • that's pretty cool. so I could take your pastebin printout into flight centre and say "price match"?

and, how often do you travel on stupidly cheap deals?

and, I wouldn't say I'm a "naysayer" but I like to be able to check that a deal is a deal. and not have to give details and then wait for a call back (especially over a long weekend) - we've been spoilt by the internet.

        • +1

          @altomic:

They won't price match a pastebin dump (since you could easily edit it). They can probably get you the same price though since the fare is available to all agents.

The naysayer comment was targeted at those further up in the comments who said it's never available etc.

Would have done it if it had more asian and european options

  • Restricted options with only HK & London - but that is cheap for RTW ticket.

    • And Americas?

      Continent Orders:

Australia – Asia – Europe – North America – Australia
Australia – North America – Europe – Asia – Australia

      • Yea, I get that. But no options other than HK for Asia & London for Europe - that's what I meant.

    Business class price?

I can vouch for Roundabout Travel, I used them for my parents last year for their overseas trip and they are really the best in the business in Australia. We tried virtually every physical travel agent we could find and none of them gave us any real attention or a decent price at all.

On the other hand, Roundabout Travel was courteous, professional, and gave us by far and away the best price on the RTW ticket.

While $1,376, though achievable, would be hard to obtain, you could easily get the trip for $1,400 - $1,500 which is absolutely incredible value.

    • +4

why didn't your parents use your helicopter

      • Because some snakes would vote her down….. 😄😄

If you search or these as multi leg flights via skyscanner following the dates and flight rules, they are coming up between 1260-1400 bookable through jetabroad - a mixture of Qantas/Virgin. For flights on these airlines, its a great deal.

  • My best from Adelaide was $2100 anyone finds better please post

    • So you got a response from them and asked for Melbourne - LA - London - Hong Kong - Melbourne but instead of Melbourne you tried Adelaide and the price was $2100? Which dates did you ask?

    • Seems Adelaide isn't actually included as per https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4644677/redir

It's not the first time Adelaide hasn't been included in this type of thing :(

      • +1

        Departure ports:
        Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne.

        /grabs pitchfork

  • +2

I don't know why people think the price is so unbelievable - it's effectively just a return flight to London with a stopover in each direction.

Not that it's a bad deal of course.

  • Book by May 02 when May 01 is a holiday and the OP says they cant give a full response til then?

    • 1st May isn't a public holiday in SA where they're based.

I only just came across the deal but has been open since April 23rd it seems. I can only post when I find it mate, I'll try and be less tardy next time.

  • -3

all good until you get beaten and dragged off your flight due to overbookings

  • +7

I guess it's cheap enough, and yeah it goes around the world, but I thought the allure of Round-The-World fares was unlimited stops in all continents as long as you headed in one direction and didn't backtrack. So you'd get to see hundreds of cities in many continents, instead of just 4 in 4. Piecing together an itinerary of free unlimited flights and stops to all continents to have the ultimate adventure was the thing back in my day. God I'm getting old. Isn't this just 4 cheap one-way flights at $350 each?

    • As far as I know, there have always been different categories of Round the World fares. The more stops, the more expensive they get. For $1,376, this is cheaper than most full-service airlines charge for a return trip to Europe. Some (looking at you Singapore Air) even charge you for doing one single stopover!

  • I'm guessing if I lodged an enquiry for this tonight, I've likely missed out on this deal due to them contacting me tomorrow earliest and the booking needing to be made by midnight?

  • +1

Deal has been extended to May 15
