Smart Zapper $15 - https://www.tandy.com.au/ta/buy/one-for-all-smart-zapper-one…

Tablet Remote $47 - https://www.tandy.com.au/ta/buy/one-for-all-tablet-remote-sy…

The difference between the two devices appears to be that the Smart Zapper works over short distances over Bluetooth and has physical controls for basic functions, while the Tablet Remote connects to your wireless network to provide range over the entire house.

The going price for the Smart Zapper is around $40 (Bing Lee) and the Tablet Remote is $60 (HN). Original RRP on these items are $149 and $249 respectively, but it appears to be in runout, hence the lower price.

These are also available on Kogan/Dick Schmidt sites for $1 extra.

Interestingly it doesn't really touch on the fact that Woolworths/Dick Smith bought Tandy and either took over or closed all the stores.

I'd say there was some sort of underlying deal when Kogan grabbed the rights to Dickies..

@Putnum: Tandy's while under the umbrella of Woolworths/DSE, were largely franchisee owned stores, however in it's final years, Woolworth's ended up taking ownership back of the stores and closing the vast majority. I think there may have been a handful of stores still open when DSE went belly up.

        • @kapone: None in Vic I believe. A lot of them were branded as 'Dick Smith Small' stores, like the one down on the bottom floor at Southland.

Then they worked out it was their large stores that were draining the most cash like the poorly positioned ones at chadstone and knox haha

  • In the video, why is everyone (profanity) around with their tablet and phone instead of watching some quality show?
Should life be about tableting my bluetooth remote control that IR controls my TV now?

  • Android app that's required for this to function gets terrible reviews

For Ozbargainers I recommend the following.. got 5 of them and they are rock solid. Cheap as chips plus easy to hack (RM Plugin + Tasker on Android)

    • Was looking at these…do you know if they work with a Foxtel IQ3 box?

      • Hi. Don't know about foxtel. For some reason I think I've read it doesn't handle foxtel signals.

  • Hmmm, can I use this to add physical buttons to Alexa..? There are times when that could come in tandy….

  • I wonder if Brashs is coming back next?

  • I tried one of these and it wouldn't successfully connect to any Android phone I tried.

  • I just got my smart zapper delivered. First impressions are that it does what it says it does.

I have a low cost setup, Toshiba TV, Telstra TV (Roku), Harman/Karmin AMP.

    Setup:

Toshiba TV: All features working after picking brand. Except Australia not an option for region. Not an issue for us as all our watching is through Roku.
Roku: All features working after picking Model
Harman/Karmin: Didn't have my model. But previous model works with most features.

Time to setup. About 15 minutes.

Reasonably happy for sub $30 remote control.

Don't you mean Harman Kardon? That is not low cost.

My mistake. You are correct, Harman Kardon. I am not knowledgeable with amp's, It was $300 from JB.

        • It is a premium brand. Mine is now 20 years old.
