  • Looks nice, Is this second best from lg after oled?

    • +1

There's no second best after OLED. If you really need one now, buy a good 1080p, like the Sony 850C from a very popular recent deal.

      • +1

Plasma is second best after OLED but good luck finding one..

        • +2

Holding onto my Samsung 64F8500 until a decently priced OLED comes out.

        • Why is Plasma second best?

        • +1

TVs with higher contrast ratios generally have better picture than those with lower, especially in a dimly lit or dark room. It's the main component of picture quality. You could have an 8K TV but if its contrast ratio sucks, it'll still look like crap: http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/contrast-rati…

          LCD contrast ratio is 1000-3000:1
          Plasma contrast ratio is 100000:1
          OLED contrast ratio is infinity:1

@KLoNe: I'm with you there! Will cry the day my F8500 goes :-(

Sister recently had her F8000 die, Samsung didn't have the part needed any more so paid them out $2200. Decent outcome, but still sucks they're not keeping parts for plasma's any more.

        • @Porthos: I really don't want to think about when my F8500 dies… I got it for a such a stupid low price when they were phasing them out. Prays to plasma gods

          @lostn: 2 words - picture quality

        • @KLoNe: At least when it does, Samsung are really good to deal with it seems. Brother in law called them up expecting to have a fight on his hands, I'd told him about the ACL and all that, but he said he didn't even have to mention it at all.

They sent a tech out, tech found the part that was needed but then they realised they didn't have the part (a bit poor they didn't have a fair few spares left over) they offered them a replacement (can't remember the model, was decent though) but then realised there's no stock of that either so then refunded their entire purchase price. Was surprised about that part as I thought they'd only give them a part refund based on having the TV for a fair few years.

So overall a pretty good effort from Samsung.

        • @Porthos: Yeah I've had great service from them as well. It really depends on the tech they send because they inform the office staff what to do.

        • @Ryballs: Contrast ratio is important but isn't everything. You can't tell me that a 720p Plasma offers better picture quality than a 4K Full Array Backlit LED with Local Dimming.

        • -1

@JLHC: Yeah I can. FALD LCD still has many drawbacks compared to self-emitting technologies like plasma and OLED: "Local dimming can be of noticeable benefit to picture quality, but it can also lead to blacks losing detail, or light blooming off of bright objects and into darker portions of the screen." - http://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/local-dimming

A 720p Pioneer KURO plasma still has excellent picture quality and with none of these issues. Its motion quality is also superior due to it not being held back by the "sample and hold" tech of LCD/OLED. In my opinion 4K resolution only makes a significant difference when you start going really big like 70"+. Even then most cinemas are still using 1080p and look fine.

In the end it comes down to what you like though. If you prefer FALD LCD then go for it.

To answer your question, no. This is LG's second from the bottom UHD model from 2016.

It is an 8 bit panel, but has the magic remote (awesome).

    • I wouldn't go any less than super UHD range with today's technology. I'd say all 2016 stock has been cleared by now, but you could get 60" in low $2000s at one stage, 2017 prices are still a bit ripe.

Now my mum can watch Masterchef in 4K. Thanks Myer.

I would steer away from this model, it suffers from excessive "Dirty Screen Effect". The UH652T models have always been "cheaper" compared to other 4K models and they are cheap for a reason. LG are aware of the problem, but sadly they have continued to sell this model.

Here's a thread on Whirlpool about this model:
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2543440

    • "Dirty Screen Effect"

Is that anything to do with this 100Hz silliness ie bad image processing?

    • Damn LG and they're dodgy DSE, I was noticing this issue prob 3-4 years ago and they've still not sorted it. Just poor.

    • It's not really a problem if you are just looking for a good deal for a 65" 4K TV and you don't actively look for the problem (like most laymen).

It was selling for $1995 by The Good Guys as clearance a few weeks ago so $1664 is an extremely good deal.

  • For those wanting to know which of the 2 HDR versions this TV supports:

This model TV supports HDR10 ONLY, not Dolby Vision.
Only the high end "Super UHD TVs" support both versions.

  • This or hisense series 7?

    • I have no idea about that, but wanted to add that I have a Hisense TV and it takes forever to turn on. I also have a Hisense fridge, and it is not cool enough, in either the chiller or the freezer.

Two out of two has led me to not trust Hisense products ever again, and I'm steering clear just in case.

      But that's just me.

      • forever to turn on

My Hisense 65" Series 7 does take a while to get to the picture or input when switching on but I wouldn't say it's excessive.

        • Forever is an exagerration but it's definitely a lot longer than every other TV I have.

    • This

DSE / better OS / more expensive

      Hisense Series 7

Great PQ / some OS bugs / cheaper

Personally, I went with the Hisense.

      • Cheaper? Been trying to find one without much luck, do you know of a current sale I've missed?

        • Sorry, was referring to past sales.

    • Hisense. I looked at the LG / Samsung offerings at the same price point and the Hisense wins out. Plenty of others agree on Whingepool and AV Forums.

    • LG for me just because of WebOS which is the best TV OS that I've seen so far.

Samsung's smart TV OS is crap and while Android TV is pretty good, the UI and UX isn't very user friendly and my experience with Sony Android TV is that they are very buggy and slow to turn on.

  • thanks mate! got one for the mum

    Gone!

  • This or the SUHD KS8500 for $1698 at Home Clearance? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/304421

    • well there's a 10inch difference.. (thats what she said) … so that should be part of the decision process :)

  • The 65" version in your link, which is equivalent to this model is selling for $2588.

  • Did anyone's purchase just get cancelled? Mine just did, Myer eBay is a joke, advertising non-stocked items
