CASHREWARDS

After solid negotiations between Cashrewards & Woolworths Mobile, we're happy to be able to bring back this exclusive deal similar to the pre-order sale of last month. Although it's $2 more per month, note it now includes an extra 2GB of data as a bonus. Woolworths has unfortunately had to cut back on the cashback made available to us specifically for this offer. We could have chosen a higher monthly rate with higher cashback, but we believe this will resonate better with our members and customers. Please ensure you apply coupon CASHREWARDS on the checkout page for a $13 monthly discount on the medium plan only. Offer ends 11:55pm Friday AEST unless sold out prior. Have fun :)

Note you must click out via this link before you purchase to be eligible for the $20 cashback.

Bonus 2GB data offer is valid on all approved Woolworths Mobile Medium (4GB) Phone Plan applications when you order the Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ between 2 May 2017 and 5 May 2017 via Cashrewards website only. Use promo code CASHREWARDS at checkout. Monthly cost for the S8 is $67 per month (min cost $1608 over 24 months) including a $17 handset fee. Monthly cost for the S8+ is $71 per month (min cost $1704 over 24 months) including a $21 handset fee. Downloads stop when data limit is reached. Data charged in 1kb blocks. TAnx for the deal.

  • +5

    Eligible for staff discount?

    • Cashback will not be paid in conjunction with any other offer, voucher or discount code, or with any staff or student discount.

      • +6

Staff discount is bigger than the cashback anyway.

        • How much is the staff discount? And how do you get it, just put the card number in the Woolworths rewards card section?

    • I tried it and you can't stack, you only get one or the other (i.e. you'll pay $75/month with your staff discount vs $71 a month with the cashrewards code).

  • Nice deal - I would be all over this one for the data if I hadn't signed up to the last one. I wonder if ww will entertain a switch :/

  • Kicking myself for signing up to an optus 12month contract :( Have to wait that out I guess.

    • you can still upgrade for free having a sim only contract for 12 months :)

      • ??

  • This is not bad. If you need more data this is a better deal than the last one.

But they are calling it a $13 discount, which sets the base price (of 6GB) at the same $80 pm as a few weeks ago which was 4GB. Does that mean their 4GB plan is cheaper now? The one they locked us into contract to only weeks ago for 2 years? Why did they cut the price so soon?

    • They didn't cut anything. The 4gb Plan is now + 2gb special, it apperas to be a woolies wide promotion. not cash rewards (which is the confusing thing).

It appears the cash rewards bonus is the $20 cashback (IMHO nothing really) but $13 off a month (main thing).

After friday 11:55pm I assume the plans become $84 for say the S8+ ($71 currently) and you don't get the $20 cashback. But you will still get 6gb. Seems to be a mid may ending promo on data. Wished they did 7GB i wouldn't be so torn. Currently 6gb seems rough.. i don't know how i used to get buy on 2, 3gb on vaya, and then subsequently bumped my way to 5gb on amaysim and felt like i was released. then 7gb and now 9gb on amaysim for ages. SO hard to go back now!

  • It's really torturing for me, also those without two years visa left, to see these tempting deals over and ova

    • Just curious, do they actually ask for your visa details to sign up to those plans? A credit check alone shouldn't provide them with your visa details.

      • yep they will ask you to provide your visa scanning pic

        • not , I am on visa as well under 2 years. as long as you have full Australia driver license. They will accept it :)

        • @triplenet:
I don't have a 2 year visa and I certainly don't have an Austrlaian driver's licence. I do however, have a credit card with a major bank. Maybe that helped my case?

        • @robb2002: are you even legal?

        • @suicine94:
Well considering you need a visa to get a credit card, I'll leave you to figure that out.

  • Any gear vr headset????

    • +1

VR was available only for pre-orders. That offer has now ended.

    • -4

Is it a big deal? Surely you are signing up for the phone, not the VR?

      • +2

        free is free.

        • +5

          Dammit Jin yang!

      • +1

Sold mine for $100 on Gumtree. Takes away from the total cost over 2 years to be something like:
        69*24 = $1656 —> -$100 for VR - $101 for Cashbackrewards = $1455

Makes cost of the phone ~$1100 which is a ~20% discount on RRP on day 1 and the plan $15/month which is about what its worth with Kogan deals etc. being available.

Plus a further ~1.5% off with Amex points redemption on gift cards = ~$20. But whos counting? :P

        • What do you mean Amex and gift cards? Can I use eight cards to pay for the plan?
I like that calculation by the way I'm with tpg and buying phones outright 17 a month for 24 months and the price of a phone makes this tempting for more data and brand spanking new phone.

        • @DaTa:
Pay for the plan using an Amex credit card for maximum points (over visa/mc/direct debit).

If you use your points to buy Coles Myers, and woolworths gift cards etc, it works out to be approx 1.5% per $ spent.

        • +1

          @plasmapuff:
Ah yes I pay everything I can on my Amex

        • @plasmapuff:

Sold mine for $100 on Gumtree

Just wondering when you sold the VR, did you have to give them a copy of the invoice for warranty purposes?

        • @Paco:
Nope. They never asked. It was still sealed.
Doubt many people would think about claiming warranty for it.

        • @DaTa: Their fees can go as high as 3%!

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • What network does Woolworths run On?

    • +2

      Telstra

    • Uses part of the Telstra network.

    • Telstra 4G according to their website.

    • +33

In case the last 4 comments weren't enough, just confirming that Woolworths uses Telstra.

      • Not the entire network, unlike Virgin Mobile, who offer full access to the network.

        • What difference does it make to the end user which we need to take care of?

        • +2

Network quality as your not granted full access to the Telstra network. You'll notice it more as you head out to the outer suburbs and regional centres.

        • @TightAssDude: Damm. Why these providers false advertise that they use Telstra.

        • +2

          @Gaggy:
You will have coverage everywhere Telstra have coverage, you will just not get the higher data speeds Telstra direct get.

          @TightAssDude:
Considering Virgin are on the Optus network, I'm pretty sure they'll offer less of the Telstra service than Woolworths ;)

        • +7

          @TightAssDude:

Yep. For anyone interested, here's a comparison between the coverage maps of Woolworths Mobile and Telstra: http://imgur.com/a/tW2lz

        • @phluffed:

Not the same coverage unfortunately (as per above comment)- on top of 100mbps cap and no VoLTE.

        • @donnot:

hardly major concerns… you still have mobile coverage everywhere Telstra has coverage.

        • +1

          @phluffed:

As per the maps, you lose a significant portion of regional coverage…

        • +1

          @donnot:
As per the maps, you have 4G where Telstra have 4GX and you have 3G where Telstra have 3G.
          edit
Sorry, I am slightly off.. there are some regional areas where you drop from 4G to 3G.

        • @phluffed:

Some sites are a bit misleading by not mentioning the discrepancy in coverage between the two (I initially thought they were the same). Very similar coverage-wise to Optus :(.

        • @donnot:
We've had the S8 on WW for 10 days, done over 5000kms country travel in VIC and had no loss in signal compared with the other work phone on Telstra and considerably better than the Missus phone on Optus

        • Virgin does not support Wifi calling whereas Optus does.

        • +1

          @donnot: Thanks for this :)

        • +1

We have a hobby farm out west in NSW and the only company we get reception with is Telstra…

Nothing with Vodafone / Optus / Virgin

        • @phluffed: Do you know if the Woolworth S8 handset is 4GX compatible? (as in if we use a Telstra-direct sim card in the Woolworth S8 handset that appears to support 700MHz band, can it get 4GX speeds?)

    • I wonder if its Telstra.

  • Thanks!
    :)

  • +1

What are the terms if the contract is cancelled? Paying out the entire contract or just the handset fees?

  • Any data free streaming? Spotify etc?

    • +1

IIRC unfortunately only the Optus network has that but in my experience, streaming/saving music on the go does not use much data anyway.

      • I went through 3gb in one night of spotify streaming when I first discovered it >.<

      • It can get a bit hefty when you use it for an hour every business day… used about 5GB in by the middle of the month. Of course that's due to the high quality setting…

  • For some reason i cant access the woolworths mobile website via cashrewards. Keep getting "this website cant be reached. ad.doubleclick.net’s server DNS address could not be found". Anyone know how to fix this?

    • +2

      Turn off your adblocker

      • I'm getting the same issue. Tried Chrome, IE and Edge… no dice :(

        • I think I've worked around it.
          - Installed the Cashrewards extension in Chrome
          - Used this address instead
          - Activate Cashrewards through the extension

  • Does anyone know if the Woolworths model is dual Sim?

    • +1

Single Sim. Got S8 for the wife in previous deal.

      • +1

        Thankyou sir

  • Woolworths mobile signal isn't that great in my area compared to Vodafone or Optus … But this offer is quite tempting

  • good deal

  • Is the phone locked to Woolies/Telstra?

    • +2

The S8 and S8+ my wife and I got on the last WW special were unbranded (IE no Telstra branding) and were unlocked, so I would assume these are the same. I recall reading somewhere that WW could not be a$$ed putting their own branding on the phones…

      • +1

I don't think any MVNOs have the buying power to get their own SKU (that would come with splash screen/apps etc). Only the big three.

Having said that, vanilla is best - carriers put loads of unnecessary junk on their SKUs.

    • Would love if someone can confirm if this phone would be locked to woolies/telstra. Do travel abit at times so could really do with the unlocked phone feature.

      • someone in earlier post said its fully unlocked

  • +1

I recently managed to pick up an S8 through Vodafone with 20GB per month, the first two months free of charge at $86 per month on a 24 month contract.

Good deal overall but I'd suggest looking at Vodafone for anyone who needs more data - I'd probably rip through 6GB in the first three days.

    • I'd probably rip through 6GB in the first three days.

May I ask how? I want to use more data and I'm struggling to use up the 4GB I have.

      • +2

        Speedtests for fun

      • Music streaming, youtube and NBA streaming - I often stream an NBA game whilst sitting on public transport on the way into work.

I also like to be able to hotspot without worrying about the data usage.

        • +1

Vodafone's tethering speed is like how Australia Post delivers. Slow.

        • What resolution do you stream at?

I prefer downloading the youtube videos and transferring them to my phone, which is free and faster.

    • +1

Would you like to share that offer around?
Vodafone are currently only offering 1 month free according to their site, and although the Red Data plan has jumped from 11GB to 20GB, it is $90 per month alone, not including the handset cost.

    • tijin how can i get on that plan!

  • +1

I bought the 4gb plan, how can I upgrade to this?

    • You could try contacting them and asking, let us know how you go!

    • +2

Contacted Woolworths Mobile this morning and tried to upgrade from the 4GB ($69/month promo for the S8+), although they wouldn't let me.

" I have double checked this with my supervisor and he confirmed that we cannot change the plan to a different promotion."

  • You guys are awesome thanks!

  • Argh…I can't resist…might have to terminate my current contract 2 months early. Can't decide between the S8 and S8+ though.

    Thanks TA!

    • What phone are you coming from? My wife went from an S6 to the S8 and I went from the Note Edge to the S8+. I have medium sized hands and the Plus feels right. It can be a bit of a stretch one handed to reach the top or bottom but I find I just adjust how I am holding the phone and it's fine.

I hold my wife's and although its screen about the same screen as my note edge it just feels too small!

      • Going from an Xperia Z2 (just got it replaced, great phone but would like to upgrade). Worried about the size of the S8+ and therefore the increased chance of me dropping it, especially with the extra reach required. How are you doing on battery life? Relative to the Note Edge?

        • I went from the Z3 to the S8+, I don't find it too big and I have small hands. The reason for this is that the width is the same with these 2 phones, only the S8+ is taller. A bit heavier too.

But I don't think I could live without the S8+'s big beautiful screen and the better battery life compared to the S8, so easy choice for me!

        • @DVDGuy:

Did you mean the better battery life compared to the Z3?

This is great - I'm on an xperia zz3 too so this is directly comparable to me. How is th ebattery life? For example my first time using my z3 i was getting 1-1.5 hours on the screen being on and browsing/tinkering with phone etc, would chew through 10-15% battery . Basically i got 6-7 hrs SOT on average without anything intensive in early days. It's since dropped and I find my reception isn't that great - i can't work out if it's optus (being amaysim) or my colorbond roofs out here, and being in new suburbs.

Am very keen to hear if the z3 move to s8 or s8+ yielded better battery results. And especially size. I tried the sisters in law and I agree, the width is the same. Also longer - my only worry. Can't fully reach with one hand and i'm a decently large hand guy.

THe screen size is humongous in compariosn as while both are the same width, the actual screens real estate stretches far further. My only worry is with it being longer (the s8+ ) it is bordering the realm or being man pockets unfriendly.

        • @SaberX: Better battery life compared to the S8.

Being a new phone, and a larger phone with a larger battery, it's heaps better than the Z3. I no longer need to worry about playing Star Wars: Commander, for example, even in Performance Mode (QHD+ resolution), whereas with my Z3 in its current state, it will last less than an hour from a full charge at most with the same game (which, to be honest, chews through the battery on my Galaxy Tab S2 as well).

Not to mention everything looks gorgeous in full screen mode on the S8+.

In short, the S8+ is in a different league and makes the Z3 looks so outdated in comparison.

        • @DVDGuy:

Ahh ok, the endurance rating tests on the z3 vs s8+ on gsmarena seemed to be nearly same i.e. web browsing time (which I use as my hours of comparison, i assume that your browsing web or some basic apps so whatever hours they have here would mimick my SOT). The overally video playback time is higher though. THen again even the 10 + hours video or we browsing time for the z3 would never happen for me haha.

I just realised you were comparing the s8+ to having better battery life than the s8. I thought/kept reading as if you were typo'ing saying the s8+ was better compared to the z3 - sorry for the confusion haha. took a couple of re-reads.

If you go mid resolution do you reckon you'd easily get 6 hours SOT with just general app or web browsing, emails, viewing the gallery browser and so forth?

More importantly do you find the signal strength/reception stronger? I find i struggle with reception at my house wiht the z3 and I've always had a sneaky suspision it was my mobile specific as opposed to coverage itself.

Be interesting to note if you find the extra length comparably harder in your pockets than the z3. width is identical otherwise.

WHAT I WILL be happy for - if i sign up - is moving from a 16gb sony without being able to sync my emails, to 64gb of internal storage. Assumedly i'll never run out of internal space to update apps and sync haha.

    • S8+ is of similar size as for a 5.5" or LG G4. I would advise you to go for it, if you are using a 5.5" phone. Its a good size phone.

      • I have an xperia z3. Would you consider it comparable? As z3 is a 5.5". I tried the s8+ and it was about same width, but longer. Just wondering how the 'feel' and comfort relates, esp for those who have z3.s

        • I have used G4 and I feel it more comfortable than that. Yes, it is slightly longer, but I don't mind that. It is a also little thinner, but the curved edges make it look good.

Holding it is better compared to other 5.5 phones.

Again it is a personal preference and I have not used S8, so cant comment on it, but I like s8+

        • @Gaggy:

Thanks. Realised the Z3 is actually smaller than a 5.5" screen supposedly, thought it was 5.5", but not according to GSM arena.

I did get to hold the s8+ and it felt ok. Just wish I had time to try it in various positions, pockets, etc haha.

        • @SaberX: True. Initially I used to hate 5.5" phones as they used to pop out little from few of my jeans or lowers. Its all good now. small screens are not that impressive anymore. Browsing is a pleasure on S8+ and videos are still to be made for this rate unless you dont mind stretching them to full screen and cut some part from top and bottom.
