No problem. Now to decide what to spend the $159.20 on…

Why don't you upvote if you want to thank

  • Ah bugger, just paid the $179 Myer deal but saying that not that upset. Great unit.

    • Every Ozbargainer needs to have a price protection credit card.

      • Price protection sometimes is limited to bricks and mortar stores in the vicinity of where you bought it, so isn't always a magic bullet with some banks

  • I heard a rumour there is a new one coming. Anyone else heard this? Before I typed it please ;)

The Smart Grinder Pro and BES920 Dual Boiler appear to be regularly coming up at "clearance" prices now, so I'd say Breville definitely have something up their sleeve.

    • Regardless, great machine if you can score both the BES920 and this grinder close to 800-900

  • I struggle to see significant improvements on BES920 and BCG820 for home use. I love these two as my current setup.

After driving my uncle's Porsche, I can't even look at my Yaris. There's no comparison.

…. Nor should there be, as they are significantly different in price and features.

        • +5

By your own comparison, this shouldn't make any difference either, as they both grind beans

          @Gerbil:

          Professor!

All jokes aside, I'm sure the Rocket coffee machine with grinder is great.

I guess the crux of the issue is, personally, I own this grinder and the Breville Dual Boiler and I find the quality of the coffee to be incredible. I take it with me on holidays I'm that sad. For about $850 I have a setup which, to me, is great.

What would a Rocket with that grinder cost? $3k? Would it taste three times as good? Well, maybe, but that's still three grand on a coffee machine. I couldn't make that investment (this is ozbargain, so maybe I'm just cheap).

Before the BCG820 there was nothing (correct me if wrong) at this price point that ground beans as well as it could. It's a stellar grinder for the money, and that's the point, for the money (this is a bargain community after all). It has its flaws, I see the coffee, when ground, falls out in clumps. I know the "brushy thing" in a Mazzer grinder prevents this and aids to the quality of the cup.

I don't mean disrespect to you, and as I said, the rocket/grinder combo is definitely better. But this grinder for $150 is a cracker of a deal.

You can call me "Prof" for short also, there's no need to be so formal :)

        • @misterpotatomato:

Had to ask - I do own a cheap Sunbeam conical burr grinder which does a decent enough job for the money, but also pushes out the grind in clumps just like the Breville.

But does that actually affect the quality of the coffee? After all the ground gets tamped into a puck in the filter basket anyway before it gets brewed

  • Is this machine good for grinding Herbs and Spices?

    • +1

Not after grinding coffee beans or garlic.

  • Still available for those that want one.

Back in stock so cheap for $150!

    • Thanks buddy, pre-ordered one from the Melbourne store.

  • Already have one, so tempted to get a spare…..

    • One for decaf?

      • I wanted an extra for exactly that reason (decaf). It's now half a year since I got my second, and there's still some stale decaf beans in there from the original bag of beans I bought. Maybe time to gift to a family member.

  • I have just bought 1 from Bourke St Mall Melbourne. Looks like stock is available not sure how much is the stock.

    • Did they give you 20% off their store price of $199?

  • If people live in Melbourne then it is worth ringing up the Breville outlet store in Fitzroy to find out price and availability - I seem to remember seeing this and thinking "who would pay a $100+ for a coffee grinder (Can't remember the exact price).

Be aware some of these are refurbished products and everything only has a 1 year warranty.

They also had the milk frother for $135 new, or $70 for their refurbished models. Was interested but not sure how well they froth. Link to product below.
