LG 8.5kg Top Load Washing Machine $507 + Bonus $50 EFTPOS Card (+$50 Amex Cashback) @ Harvey Norman

180

I was hunting for a new LG top loader washing machine and noticed this one at HN with a crazy discount. Delivery charge for me in Brisbane was $49.
Also eligible for another $50 cash back via the Amex deal here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305107 (credit to Jason Genova for pointing this out)

JB have essentially the same price with Free Delivery, but no bonus EFTPOS card:

I ended up getting Appliances Online to price match JB because I like their service:

Note: This washing machine is available cheaper ($447) using the eBay deal if you can pickup in Sydney: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305013

    Great price for a 8.5kg.

  • Good price, I think I paid more for the same model in 6.5kg.

  • Nice machine, but I'm not a fan of those with automatic lint removal. I prefer the other LG model that has the lint filter that you can easily remove and clean.

  • Thanks. Purchased with Amex deal.

  • This has 2 star energy rating. Is that standard rating these days or can it be higher?

It's because it's a top loader, they use more power, more water and are harsher on clothes and don't clean dirt out as well.

I'd never buy a top loader after owning several front loaders for the last 20 years. They clean better, use less water, electricity and clothes last a lot longer due to the way they wash.

      • How long do front loader take? Owned one before which took like 2 hours…..no more after that.
Top load you can stop start add more clothes anytime

        • Our current one has a daily wash which goes just over 1 hour. It does have a normal cottons cycle which takes just under two hours.

It's just a matter of getting organised though, I make sure I find all the clothes before starting and don't have to stand there watching it for an hour. It just does it's thing. I also just become organised and don't want things washed (poorly) 20 minutes before I need them like top loaders do.

In saying that, many new front loaders now allow you to pause the cycle and open the door. If the water level has not reached the glass of the door this is fine.

Looks like it will double as a breadmaker.

This is a better price than over 5 years ago:-

  • Hi I am looking for a front loader , around 7 to 8 kg, thinking of LG , Haier, fisher and parker, any comment and good deals around ?

  • Looks like the price is back to normal so I've expired the deal.

    • wow, that wasn't out for long!

  • I bought one yesterday but still wondering if the spinning speed of 650 rpm will be too slow?

    • Given that front loader spin at double that, then yes, clothes will come out a LOT wetter than they would in a front loader spinning at 1200-1400 rpm

      • 1200rpm is a bit extreme and not neccessary for us… but just feel a bit nervous and just hope it spins as fast as my current 15yo washer…

        • 1200rpm is not extreme at all, it's standard for front loaders.

You're just putting up with your clothes being a lot more wet coming out of your machine and therefore taking a lot longer to dry.

have it running and cant be happier:) 650rpm maybe even better than my old good washer and good enough for us as we always air dry clothes before putting in the drier. 650rpm means it will last for 10 years. This is a very good buying! will never go for the side door as we i dont want to knee or bend… just an old bag :)

Got the 9.5kg top loader. Brilliant machine and has lint filters inside the bowl. 4 yrs old and going strong.

    • Agreed. We've had ours for 27 months. No regrets and great capacity.

    • The models with or without lint filters in the bowl are completely different.
