Did I hear vpay? Assuming they still sells them.

    • -4

      ?

    • +1

Visa Vpay is $300 max :( does not allow to get the $50 :( :( :(

      • Buy a few of them and split the payment across multiple cards ? Assuming you have multiple AMEXes, of course. ;)

        • You need to buy 7x$300 vpay to split across 6 cards :) More likely will be multiple vpay split across single card. Just have to pay the $5.50 fee twice per $350 spend though.

        • +2

          @Obs:

Best combo would be $2100 worth of vpay 300 x 7
Then split the total with 6 cards

The look on the cashiers face when you tell them what you want to do - Priceless

        • @Peanut money: a they will probably not do it citing management have said no amex allowed.

        • @Turd:

Agree. Asking for 7x$300 would be really pushing it when you then ask to split it 6 times :)

        • So only 2 amex so you can do Vpay $150 and $200 with $5 fee x 2?

        • @PLANT: is there a deal going for vpay as well ? Did not get what you guys are talking about

        • buy $350 vpay with $310 Amex, profit $40

        • +2

@janakisho: The main preference in going VPAY is that you can use the card anywhere just like a normal VISA card unlike the HN gift card where you can only use it at a HN type franchise (possibly including domain).

HN francises last time got very grumpy then people asked for VPAY and so contrived a few things like taking them all away, putting up signs saying you will not get the Amex credit if you DO buy one and in some cases just saying NO to any Amex card purchase for a VPAY and in some cases Gift Card.

        • @danielh: thanks for clarifying, is this an ongoing deal in store ? Does every Harvey Norman sells them ? How do I get one ?

        • -1

@janakisho: Most if not all HN should sell Gift Cards but only a few will sell VPAY cards. You will need to call and ask. I suspect that some HN stores might even deliberately hide these cards until the AmEx deal is finished. You never know.

        • -1

          @danielh:

Why the hell would they "hide" the Vpay cards? It's not like they are losing money from selling them. AMEX doesn't charge the retailer for rebates here.

I've still got the promo card from last time anyway. All the cashier does is raise an order on their system and it prints a voucher - no physical card.

        • @abc:

AMEX doesn't charge the retailer for rebates here.

this isn't like the shop-small promos

Promotions like this would be a joint agreement between Amex and the retailer (e.g. Harvey Norman) and you think Amex is just throwing $50 notes at Harvey Norman ?

          These promos cost Harveys $..

        • @abc: HN makes almost no margin on the VPAY cards and once sold, the people are more likely to use those cards to buy things outside of HN like doing their weekly Coles shopping.

        • @danielh:

Then why would they sell these in the first place if they make zero money (not even a small commission) from them? Defies logic.

        • @SBOB: You care about Gerry Harvey's stores? Sorry with this new 10% GST tax and level playing field I dont think Gerry would be protected by much ozb'ers

        • @Turd:

I couldn't care about Gerry's margins, but when promos like this would be costing Harvey stores the majority (if not all) of the $50, Im dont know why ozb'ers get shocked that things like Vpay cards, where the retailer makes pretty much nothing selling them, are either hidden or tried to be excluded for amex purchases.

        • @SBOB: Because they are discriminating against cc cards. Why allow VISA/MC and not AMEX?

    • Max vpay is $300 I'm think.

      • Anyone knows if any HN in Victoria still sells vpay or prepaid visa cards.

My closeby ones - QV and Highpoint - both have stopped after the last promotion :(

        • Nunawading had some last time.

    • what is vpay ? is there a deal on it ?

  • +2

I bought a few HP Sprocket photo printers and paper for mother's day! (and myself)
EDIT: comment was meant for the HP offer doh

  • +10

Not as good as the 100 off 300+ spend from last year, but I will take anything :)

  • Damn. Just used my last set of gift cards (via Amex deal) from HN to partially buy a $1,999 AEG oven that was on sale. If only this came out two days earlier.

    • +1

You didn't miss out.. "Offer excludes the following products: AEG, Apple, Asko, De Dietrich, Elica, Fagor, Falcon, Gaggenau, Miele, Neff & St George."

      • +9

They can never tell what you buy anyway. I have used amex offers on apple products previously and it always comes through

        • Aeg would be using their payment system, not HN

        • +1

          agreed.

i bought two iPhone 7s on the last offer using 8 amex cards. got the $100 back on all 8.

wondering if anyone has had experience this time around buying apple products. $400 off a new local MacBook pro would be great!

        • -2

@bkx3virgin: how the heck you can get 8 Amex cards? I thought Amex only issue one type of card to a customer at one time?

        • +1

          @Droid11: Some have 25

        • @Droid11: 4 for me, 4 for the missus. Includes supplementary and bank issued too.

        • @bkx3virgin:

Lol I misread that as you having 4 missuses

        • +5

          @montorola: Haha.. one's enough mate.

        • @bkx3virgin: so you're saying you could apply for 4 different cards? Supplementary card don't get offer on its own no?

        • @Droid11: nope. You can register a supp card too. We each have velocity plat cards, then she has an edge (I have a supp for this) and I have a reserve (she has a supp for this). In addition, I have a Westpac black Amex and a CommBank Amex. All of them are registered.

    • +1

I would have bought HN gift cards with my AmEx and so would not have to worry about the 'no AEG/Apple' type exclusions.

  • Thanks dude.

  • +1

All saved onto my cards! This is good! Goes all the way to July. Surely there will be end-of-year financial year sales coming soon at HN!

    • Just buy a normal gift card. That way you can use it much later. I reckon if you are fast you can get a Vpay one today but after that probably not at the more popular HNs.

      • +11

I think I'll wait it out to July or something.

Money in my pocket is better than money in their pocket…

      • -2

Can I buy online gift card? Cheers

edit: The following transactions are not eligible and will not count towards your spend for the purposes of
        the offer:

ď‚· transactions where you buy a gift card, store credit or a voucher

      • -2

        Vpay max is $300 only

      • When I buy something, Can I put through 5*350 dollars hn gift cards in one transactions?

        • Yes. Last time for the $300 deal I did a $900 card and a $600 gift card. All using Amex $300 purchases.

        • @danielh: many thanks

  • +9

not as good as the $100 cash back on $300 spend…. a while back… but still good!

    • True… I will give a miss.

      • U really have nothing to loose by saving it to your card

        • But bonky said its not as good as the 100 off 300 from before. I think Ill wait. Thanks for letting us know bonky

        • @suicine94: What are you going to wait for?

        • @pacsman: A better deal I think.

        • +1

          @Turd: You mean a unicorn?

        • +4

@pacsman: No, Sydney house bubble pop

        • There's limited registrations. If you aren't actually going to use it, you're wasting it and denying a fellow bargain hunter the opportunity.

    • Yeah, that one was super super good….

  • +35

Could probably save $50 just by shopping elsewhere :)

    • +11

I got them to price match good guys last deal.

    • Price matched PS4 from JB last time, no worries.

Will take the $50 even if it means selling my soul to Gerry.

  • Ok anyone with Amex issued card, using Android app? I can save this offer for my main card but how to do the same with my supplementary card?

    • +2

Use rhe manual link provided in the OP?

    • +1

You can sign into internet banking as the user who registered the supplementary card and click Offices & Places underneath recent transactions.

      • I thought supplementary cards could not get these offers?

        • +3

          You thought wrong

        • @bonezAU: Unless sup cards have the exact same card numbers in which case the offer only works once (I am assuming offer is separated based on different card numbers). My Westpac AMEX sup card has the exact same card number and 4 digit code to the primary card holders (wife) the only difference being the card name.

        • @bonezAU:
So I can sign up these offers using the supp cards issued by Amex themselves? Damn, good to know.

        • +1

          @nizsmo:

Good point. I just checked my Amex issued Qantas Discovery and the last few digits are different between my card and my wife's supplementary card, so I'm guessing it depends on the bank if you have a bank issued Amex.

        • +1

@abetastic: As long as numbers are not exactly the same

        • @bonezAU: to be precise, only the last 2 digits are different. The last digit is checksum digit so the difference is actually the 2nd last digit which is in increasing number :)

So if you are waiting for the supplementary card, you can actually figure out the number and register for the offer even before you receive the card ;)

        • I thought supplementary cards could not get these offers?

That seems to be true , if the additional card holder has the same number

      • Hi Mate,
Can you please explain how do we do this? I have a commbank AMEX and have registered the primary card, My CBA Android app also has an additional amex card but I can only see the last 4 digits of it in the app,
How do I see the full digits of the card to register here,
        Thanks

        • I've heard CBA AMEX primary and supplementary cards have the same numbers.

        • @bluedufflecoat:

Yes they do have same number

        • so, the guy above, was talking about registering for amex offers using the amex app which only works for amex-issued cards, not your CBA card, unfortunately.

        • @bluedufflecoat:

No Brother, I have registered with my CBA Issued Amex cards, they are eligible, My partner has another CBA Amex card, because it has the same number it wasn't eligible.

        • -1

@dealman: that is correct, with bank issued Amex, the card numbers on the supp cards are identical. However, for Amex issued cards, supp have a different number. I've registered 8 cards!

        • +1

          @bkx3virgin:

with bank issued Amex, the card numbers on the supp cards are identical.

Not true with NAB & ANZ.

          True with CBA & Westpac.

But in any case you can just check your cards :)

        • @bkx3virgin:

How did you get 8 cards mate?
Isn't there a card fee for every one

        • @dealman: for the reserve yes. But nothing for edge, Westpac black, cba diamond or supp cards.

        • CBA and Westpac use the same numbers for their Supplementary cards. The only bank that has different ones for us is now NAB as ANZ will be pulling out in August.

  • Nice. Thank you. Out of curiosity, how do you find the manual link? I get the offers when I log in, but can't find the link to my other offers to post.

  • you are going to be paying $50 too much at HN anyway.

  • any gift card available at NH?

    • Yes nh

      • When I buy something, Can I put through 5*350 dollars hn gift cards in one transactions?

  • +1

not as good as 300-100 last year

    but it is ok

  • +14

Great thread. Think we've sufficiently covered all things gift card and how this is not as good as the last HN statement credit.

    • +1

So can I do the V cards and I think last years deal was better

    • can you repeat? i think i missed it the first time.

  • -6

This is how you buy house property in Sydney!

But I bet HN managers and middle managers will be like shit not allowed.

    • +7

Why you keep taking about Sydney property???

      • Because saving a little here and there will make you save for a deposit. It's like getting a better job that pays well.

    • -2

Life Hacks 101, how to save for houses in Sydney
