  • Before see the rate, it is not worth to give them my phone number as the discount end up the same price.

    • Yep that is how they play with numbers

    • If you're a couple of days late paying your bill you'd dispute a late fee.
But if instead they phrase it as a discount for being on time, you would have much more trouble claiming it if you paid late. It's a bonus. They don't have to give it to you. They're just being nice to their customers who pay on time.
Couldn't possibly be the reason they do this could it? Hmmm?

    Hate these none QLD Deals

  • I just switched from Origin to Red Energy. I'll see how it goes.

  • Put NSW in title please so the rest of us don't foolishly click through, only to be disappointed…

  • If I get this offer, would that mean that I wont be eligible for the 12th month free and $50 signup bonus anymore?

This is a scam, not an AGL website. Just been on the phone to their sales team.

      Second this, from the website:

Experts.com.au (owned and operated by Jack Media PTY LTD website, ABN: 53 151 733 621)

      • +1

Hmm Jack Media are a marketing company that do lead generation.

AGL is one of their clients

The registrant of experts.com.au James Kitchener is their director

        They are pretty big

It's quite possible AGL sales reps just don't know about this marketing campaign run indirectly.

        • +1

AGL have just advised me that the 'advertised' deal of 27% discount on electricity and 20% discount on gas is not one that they offer. Jack Media are obviously using that form to collect customer information.

        • +1

Looks really creepy when they try to make the page looks like agl.com.au

        • +1

AGL have advised me to contact ScamWatch regarding this. They also recommended anyone who entered genuine details should contact ScamWatch too.

The link says "Request a call back - I consent to being contacted by an AGL representative to discuss AGL offers for products and services". AGL is not behind this promotion, therefore a callback from an 'AGL Representative" will not be happening, and any promise of one is therefore a scam.

          BEWARE

        • +1

          @CaptainCurtis:

I just received a callback (that I requested), after confirming my address, she was able to advise me of the plan discount that I currently receive - so they must have access to the account details.

The call did drop out, so I'll see what they say if they call back again.

The number originated from Melbourne - 03 86139205

        • @rysith:

Hmm that's odd to say the least. Keep us updated. Strange that the general call centre staff and the resolutions team had no idea about the plan and suggested I report it as a scam.

        • @CaptainCurtis:

Got another call back, they could tell me the details of my current plan, only really wanted my mobile no (which they called me on) and my address.

Then I received an official looking email with my new plan emails from [email protected], it has a link to a "viewpoint.computershare.com" address.

I was going to log into my Agl customer account details (from the Agl website directly), but they are undergoing maintenance.

If this is a hoax/scam, they are very elaborate and look quite legit.

I'll keep updating the thread - otherwise 27% discount is quite good, up from the 23% I was on before as well as being for a no lock-in contract.

          @rysith:
Just checked my AGL plan and it has been changed over to the new 27% discounted rate.

So this is a GENUINE offer and not a scam, confirmed and working as intended :)

The reason I said this post should be taken down is that the URL incorporates AGL and goes to a site which says AGL while it isn't actually AGL at all. This is patently designed to deceive using a technique rife in online scams. Shouldn't be acceptable to OzB IMHO .. :-( .. !!

Can confirm that this is a scam. Spoke to AGL. They only use agl.com.au domain. They said people have been receiving this via email.

  • +2

Yep 100%. They are using a subdomain of their experts.com.au so it looks like a data collecting scam site. Negging for the site as it is dodgey.

I just signed up with the following details and it actually went through:

    New Customer

    Name: F… Off

    Phone: 000

    Email: [email protected]

  • OP where did you get this link from?

    • -2

Don't understand why that matters? AGL have advised that this is not a deal offered by them, therefore there is no bargain?

    • This was posted in a CareerOne email, sent from [email protected]

  • I am interested, but not sure if this website is spam or not. Can someone confirmed?

  • +1

It's not legit, here are the real AGL offers available from their site: https://goo.gl/zHQLm8

  • Please note

    • Domain is registered by Jack Media, a lead-generation company which listed AGL as their client. They have been in business for many years. I have met James, Andrew & others from Jack Media a few times so I know that they are legit.

    • 27% Savers offer is also listed on other comparison sites.

    • I have also messaged James @ Jack Media to ask about this situation and what AGL has been saying on the phone. I will copy the reply here when I get it.

    • Please be responsible in what you write in the comments.

    • I signed up both utilities to AGL savers less than seven days ago, if I am still within the cooling off period can I end it then get this deal? My plan only offers 12% and 15% pay on time (gas and electricity respectively). I am a new customer in NSW.

I tried to haggle over the phone last Thursday but they told me it was the best they could do. I have no bad credit history and have paid every bill on time with my previous provider energy australia. Only reason I went agl is because the previous tenant had connected with them and I didn't want to bother transferring rights etc.

      • +1

I wouldn't believe the sales people as you need to be sent off to another group to handle the better deals. Why don't you give this a try and see if they get your details correct in their "system" like membership number as they should have all that now?

      • +1

Ring up another company e.g. origin, and say you will switch if they give you a deal. Most offers are not locked in contracts so you can switch at anytime. Frankly 18% off electricity is almost the base rate. I got much better, then another company offered even more to switch back plus bonuses. Loyalty is to the discount not the supplier.

        • Thanks guys. Signed up again with this, hopefully the discount shows on the first bill.

  • Even if the offer isn't legit.
You should be able to get AGL to give you these rates or even better if you switch to them then cancel to get them to haggle a better deal.

  • Well I recently haggled between Energy Australia and AGL. Ended up with 30% discount on electricity, 25% on gas, plus $100 bonus credit with Energy Australia. AGL offered slightly better discounts but not the bonus. I didn't even try that hard! NSW

    • Was this part of a promo you have a link for?
*Edit. On live chat the best they are offering is 22elec and 19 gas with $50 bonus.
They said your offer was a 'loyalty' based.

    • I can confirm, that AGL offered me today a higher rate than 30% to stop my switch back to another supplier who had offered me almost the same rate as the deal the OP has posted. This was after AGL had enticed me away from this other supplier originally. (also no bonus) I now have to run the numbers to see if its worth switching again. That being is the bonus plus discount better than just discount.

      • Keep us updated plz.

        • of course will depend on your bills. mine are pretty small, so the bonus is better.

  • AGL currently have a plan called AGL "Set & Forget". They offer 20% off electricity + $50 bonus + 12th month free on a 12 month contract (NSW).
    https://www.agl.com.au/residential/energy-plans/electricity-…
If your 12th month falls on a winter month, it will be really good discount.

  • Still trying to suss if its real. The call back is from 03 8613 9205. Need a blackpages to find out if this belongs to AGL. Asked for an email from the rep last night but have not received it yet.

In case it was missed earlier:

Just checked my AGL plan and it has been changed over to the new 27% discounted rate.

So this is a GENUINE offer and not a scam, confirmed and working as intended :)

  • How is this better than AGL's own SET & FORGET™ plan?

    • 28% Direct Debit Discount off usage charges
    • Plus 12th month free*
    • Plus $50 online sign-up credit if eligible†

    Plan details
    – Monthly billing & eBilling
    – 12 month Energy Plan Period
    – Variable rate

    • Shows as 20% for me on that link…

  • I spoke with AGL chat and they confirmed they have it
