Unlocked LG G4 [815 - Black Only] with 1 Year Oz Warranty - A$369 Delivered from Vaya

41

At just over $1 a day for its apparent average life, you get a great phone with a wonderful feel, unsurpassed low-light f2.0 camera [ and quite reasonable results in good light]. The dual SIM model is also available for $10 more, but you surrender band 28 for that. That may still be an fair swap for Vodafone users.
Given the local warranty, you have a fair chance that your boot-loop may happen, if at all, within the year and get 2 years off it, a chance to argue Australian warranty expectations and the fair chance you won't have one of the affected units.:-)
It may no longer be cutting edge, but I still remember the feel of this in the hand and the photos it took, so I bit the bullet, given it is a `local' sale.

[Edit]: Confirmation, the 815 [ in case Vaya try a bait and switch:-/]

Technology GSM / HSPA / LTE
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

Two things that don't get good publicity on ozbargain:
    1) LG G4
    2) Vaya

    grabs popcorn

    • :-0 I caviated well my dear Emptor. I was lucky with my last one - I dropped it in a car-park and it was never handed back. I bought this one as penance.

    • +6

Still going strong 💪 after nearly 2 years.

I'll blame you when mine dies.

      • It seems to be the grey imports that went sad. Vaya, of course, probaly are Hong Kong sourcing it, but they are claiming the 815 bands for this one - and paypal is an option:-). Most Ozbargainers/Whirpudlians were running the $369 Kogan offered units I think

        • +2

Nah, mine is local stock, still went sad after 12 months. Good thing it had a 2 year warranty - I also had an issue with the camera after 4 months, when I was experimenting with the manual settings, so the warranty came in very handy!

The phone repair was surprisingly quick and painless, got the phone back within a few days (I'm in VIC and the phone was sent to NSW).

        • +1

Nope. 2 Telstra LG G4s of mine had both WIFI and Blutooth hardware die. Each within a few months. The saga it created was horrendous. Bought from JB Hi Fi. First was replaced same day on 90 day lemon guarantee, with the only issue being that I had to drive to a different store if I didn't want to wait. Second one cause dramas when they cancelled my phone plan and tried to recontract me without my permission to do so as their way of resolving the issue when I had been waiting 5 weeks for a repair with no ETA given due to lack of parts (motherboard). The worst retail experience I have had in years and it took many hours to sort out. (Telstra can't reinstate a plan that is no longer being sold but they were able to put me on a better plan for the same price).

      • Mine's been going strong for 14 months, bought from Shopping Express. I found the LG Marshmallow to be buggy and annoying, installed Lollipop, was able to get root access to remove all the LG add ons, and get my battery life back. The screen cracked a while back and I bought a $50 replacement from Aliexpress which I still have to fit.

I would not recommend anyone buy this, having the threat of a boot loop happening at any time without any warning is too much of a pain, even with local warranty.

  • +4

You are gonna want that local warranty if you buy this. This is coming from a happy LG G2 owner.

    • +1

Yep, that's the necessary and sufficient condition I had as well.

    • Local warranty didn't help me much on my second replacement.

    • You still rocking that stock ROM? Or did you find something 3rd party that is stable?

      • +1

Yeah I was on the stock ROM. It was stable but had a few annoying 'features' like the alarm and muting options. On a vanilla Motorola G4 Plus 3GB now. Very nice but no NFC.

      • stock rom is nice but i flashed to Icex rom

  • +2

Not much of a discount from when it was new as I recall.
Grey Import sure, but more than a year ago you could get the same phone at the same price (+$1) delivered from Kogan.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/lg-g4

    • I know, I got one - and it was well considered a bargain even tho a grey import coming from Kogan. The lowest local cost I was offered was $536 months afterwards.

  • +2

HAHA LOL. My bootlooped-then-fixed by QD eBay- LG G4 - then still running OK after 12 months is now in the hands of a 3 year old for youtubing purposes.

    • +2

Mine was from QD Ebay too, and died after 17 months. Good on QD_AU , they still replace it.

      • +1

Did they replace yours recently? Mine bootlooped a few weeks ago (lasted about 18 months) and they told me there's nothing they can do for me…

        • +2

yep, last month. I contacted them through Ebay purchase history. Mine was on very good condition though, only bootloop killed it. They swapped it with refurb one, not as good as mine, but better than dead phone.

        • Damn, I tried the same thing. Perhaps they've run out of refurbs… Time for something new I guess.

      • Mine is similarly aged and contacted QD eBay. Nothing they can do for me.

  • +4

One of the best cameras still. A decent phone for Mum.

  • +1

My G4 bought from QD ebay has been running very well, without any issues. however, i wont pay $369 for a G4 these days. it is simply getting too old.

    • I'm wanting it as my daily runner for the size, the rear button and the camera. I got to really like it and the photos it took. The only real replacements camera wise are the S7/S8 or the v20, and the only format as close or comfortable to use would be the G3.

  • +4

I'd rather get the LG G5 for $439 delivered from eGlobal Digital Cameras.

  • +2

This was deal at $370 in March 2016 when i bought it from Kogan.

Its not a deal in May 2017.

Pay $100 more and get a LG G5 or pay $200 more and get a LG V20.

    • +1

I've handled the G5 and v20, and neither of them feel as good in my hand or pocket, nor do the phone calls or texts occur any faster. They are improvements, but incremental and insufficient to make a difference to me.

  • +3

Got a V10 last month for $280. Absolutely loving it and more than happy to chance it for such a great looking and feeling phone.

Had an excellent run with one G2 and four G3's in our household - all still functional.

    • +3

Sounds like a great price for the V10. Where did you get it from if you dont mind me asking?

  • +2

Meh not much of a deal. Just got my G5 for $345 and at least it hasn't got the same "widespread" bootloop issue like the G4 and V10.

    • +1

Where did you grab the G5 for that price? What model is it?

  • +1

As someone who replaced my parent's LG G4 due to boot loop couple weeks ago, I'd recommend anyone to stay as far away from this phone as possible.

And if u really want lg G4, I'm pretty sure you can get one from eBay for around 200 bucks.

  • +2

I have a LG G3 and a LG G4. Both died after a year. They just freezed one day and never bootup again.

    http://thedroidguy.com/2016/06/how-to-fix-your-lg-g4-that-wo…

NEVER LG again. (Life is Gone)

    • +1

My G3 on the other hand is still going strong after almost 2 years, and I'm finding it really hard to find a worthy phone to upgrade to!!!

      • +1

Same here lol. G3 had everything I wanted in a phone 2.5 years ago, and its been rock solid ever since. And long may it continue. Would buy another one if I still could.

  • +1

Anyone's G4 is still working without the bootloop?

    • Yes,my G4 has completed 13 months and no bootloop yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    • Had mine for almost 18 months, no issues whatsoever.

  • Also just a heads up buymobile have this for the same price, and it is Australian stock..

    https://buymobile.com.au/collections/on-sale-items/products/…

edit: Sorry I should specify that there only seem to be 3 left.. two black and one leather brown.

  • +1

    Forgetting all the issues…OLD PHONE

  • +1

One of the worst phone and local warranty is not LG Warranty.
    Provided by supplier I assume.
I am staying away from all LG products.Bad products complemented by poor customer service.

  • +1

still using my G4 bought from qd_au

    purchased date - 27 Sep 2015

  • +3

Has bootloop on my wife's virgin supplied G4. Fixed under warranty.

That being said, the camera to me is brilliant, heaps better than my Sony Z3.
And th quality feel is great.

  • This phone was brilliant, but no way it's worth $369 now. It wasn't much more than that in September 2015 deal.

  • Onto my 3rd and I'm still using mine 16 months after purchase but the only reason is I don't want to spend them money on another flagship and you can't deny the feature set. The curved back, the laggyness, the bugs are all getting on my nerves lately.

The camera is okay, but over-rated. The built in app can't balance flash to save itself at night, and is grainy without flash (not as grainy as cheaper phones of course). In good light it's a good camera.

You know you're onto a real winner when people pop on and insist that it's good because their phone is the 1 in 100 that DIDN'T bootloop just out of warranty.

    LG. Get stuffed.

  • +1

Loved someone things about this phone but I sold it after about 3 months.

    Good things
-Phenomenal camera, beats my S7 for low light, colour rendition was nice too.
    -Pretty nice screen
-Durable and the leather back is nice
-I like the rear button setup
    -Updated to Marshmallow

    Bad things
    - horrendous battery life, can't get through a day and no packed fast charger. You can see the battery ticking down as you use it!
-Doing anything with the screen on makes it really hot, particularly on the rear button
-A little too big - this is personal choice but I found the phone a little unwieldy. Not a one hand phone by any means.
-living in fear of the bootloop plague that has become legend amongst our fellow ozbargainers.

Steep at its current price imo. Hope this helps someone!

    • I agree 100%. I got mine back after getting the motherboard replaced on warranty. I thought this would fix the overheating and battery drain but apparently it seems to be a fault inherent in the model itself. It would have been a brilliant phone especially at the time of its release, except for these fatal flaws.
After trying out LG, Asus, Xiaomi and Sony - it looks like I'll be going back to a Samsung flagship phone after my current mobile plan finishes.

  • if you get this, which you shouldn't, don't overheat the phone and don't let the battery get to 0%. that might have been what caused mine to bootloop. i read something about it overheating and the circuit frying that causes bootloop.

  • Vaya. Avoid. Stung in the past big time.

    • Fair comment - One thing I didn't contemplate was adding one of their plans, and I used Paypal! Whirlpool was busy a while back with their idiosyncratic approach to `deposits', porting and a few other matters, but I thought that they finally had the error of their ways punched into them by the ACC?
