  • How good is Kogan (vodafone) reception these days? It was bad when I last used them, but I did have a grey import phone apparently missing Voda's best band.

How good is their "enhanced" 4G network compared to Telstra's?

    • +1

From my experience (Perth Metro), their service has been on par with Optus and Telstra.

      • what i needed to know. been burning alot more data since i got spotify premium…

    • Telstra if you live in the country…the rest are pretty much the same.
I'll take a break from my phone if I hit bad service than give my money to an "Australian" company set on wraughting its customers.

  • +1

My maths stinks but $205.58 divided by twelve does not equal $16.90

    • +1

      It's not $16.90/month. It's $16.90/30 days for 365 days.

      • +1

nothing wrong with your maths Bigted.

what's wrong is this post's title "Kogan Mobile Unlimited 5GB Plan $16.90 Per Month"

      • Well then, why does the title say "16.90 per MONTH"?

        • +1

because only you and I know it's wrong Ted. Only you and I are reading this

  • -1

can i buy it now and activate later?

    • Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEST on 31/08/2017

      Yes you can

      • -1

very good, time to escape Telstra since they're just as crap as the rest these days ..

  • Long shot, but is that unlimited for intl. calls also? Does they do roaming?

    • +1

      no to both.
International calls not included…and no international roaming.

International calls - use skype/whatsapp/messenger (who actually makes international typical calls these days anyway?
Roaming…buy a sim over there would be cheaper.

$17 a month vs $45 for a similar vodafone one.

Guess it depends how much traveling you are doing.

  • I use the 1GB Kogan plan OP, thanks so much I was just about to recharge. I'll upgrade instead.

  • Does anyone know if these deals stack? i.e. buy 2x365 5gb preaid and apply them and get 2years ?

    • They don't, Kogan's system is way too retarded for that. Applying a voucher simply overwrites anything that is there. (Besides, it's not a good idea, it's not like data costs are increasing.)

      • thanks for the heads up :-)

  • +1

    This sounds tempting.
I'm on a TPG $19.95/month - $550/credit and 1.5GB of data a month and been on it for 5 years now. I don't even exceed half of what I'm given every month though. Meh I'll stick with TPG and save the hassle of switching over.

Actually I just realised TPGare offering 3GB, 7GB and 10GB sim only plans. I feel cheated! Might have to call them tomorrow to complain.

    Thanks OP.

    • Swap! We just did. Apart from the representatives speaking a dialect of English that you don't understand - otherwise good!

    • Those plans are $30+ after 6 months, looks like a fair value for $19.95

    • +1

I'm in a similar dilemma ($18 per month Vaya). Use around 1 GB a month partly due to fear (I wouldn't click on a long YouTube clip).

I don't want to lock into a long term contract but the difference in data allowances is getting ridiculous at a similar price point. I also have first hand experience comparing mobile reception with others at the same spot in regional areas in Tasmania last year and Lebara (Vodafone) was worse than Vaya (Optus). This may have changed since then. I would also need a new phone for Vodafone bands.

So for now I'm switching to Ovo's 1 GB prepaid plan since apparently you can reset the plan anytime you run out. The positive is that by being tight you'll save money whereas with our current plans we're forced into a poor value middle zone.

  • Thanks OP

So before lebara upped their 5gb plan from $199 to $239, they were better in value? Although I suppose you can purchase a kogan giftcard using woolies to get a further 5% off.

  • I own a Nokia 1020. Does this work with Kogan's Vodafone coverage on that 4g band 5 thingy? I'm not tech enough to understand the guff.. Does anyone else have one and successfully uses it with Kogan to get max 4g speeds etc?

  • Is it easy to switch your number over to Kogan?
I've been on Optus $30 pre-paid each month with my number so would be ace to keep it.

    • Yes it is. Just do a port.

      • +1 I switched today and it only took 15min to port the number.

  • Do you need to buy the sim first? Or can you just port?

    • Yes you do need Kogan sim to port. Remember to stack with discounted kogan gift cards.

  • Thoughts on this vs the 10gb?
I'm thinking, the faster the speed the more data you use..?
I'm in 2.5gb and have only gone over once haha.

    • +1

If you have only been over 2.5gb once, 5gb should be safe tbh. Remember to stack with discounted kogan gift cards.

  • Anyone know where KOGAN Dispatch Warehouse is Located?

  • Can anyone comment on number porting and activation with Kogan? I've read some horror stories on Product Review. Folks in those reviews mentioned that Kogan required a credit card for prepaid deals. Anyone know if that is true? I just want to pay once and not be attached! Weighing up between this and the Lebara 7gb plan.

Can anyone comment on number porting and activation with Kogan?

two woolworths mobile # to kogan took less than four hours.

      • Thanks for the feedback. Did you have to supply credit card details for this (beyond the prepaid payment)?

        • When porting yes, they'll charge $1 which will be refunded. My friend ported his number for less than half an hour wait today.

  • up

  • If i want to port my number to Kogan, do I need to wait till their sim arrives before i can use their service?

    • do I need to wait till their sim arrives before i can use their service?

that is a strange question. how can one connect to a mobile network without a sim card?

      • not very strange as i for other companies you can pick up the sim from a local shop.

        • not very strange as i for other companies you can pick up the sim from a local shop.

your original question was can one use a mobile network service before they receive their sim.

          edit
or do you mean their service? to be something other than a mobile network?

    • No need Kogan sim card first.

Does anyone know if I can utilise Woolworths WISH eGift Cards to buy Kogan cards at Woolies to pay for part of this deal?

    • keen to know as well :)

      • Yes, please turn on your PM, will PM some info.

        • done :) though I already bought the kogan deal :(

        • Can you PM me the info too? Thanks.

        • @lilkid28: PM-ed

        • Hi Tajid,

Could you PM the info as well? Thanks

    • Apparently Kogan cards/credit can't be used on the Kogan Mobile website however this deal is bought via the main Kogan site so I guess there's some hope there? The other question is can you use Woolworths eGift cards to buy other gift cards? I thought I read about some issue with this somewhere?

    • Not sure if it's any help but the deal is also available via the Dick Smith store as well. Was in my local Woolies today and looked through their gift card section but no DS cards.

  • +1

From order confirmination, not the purchase date. Seven days and counting for the sim card to arrive.
The order won't arrive today unless it's a courier service. So that will make it at least eleven days or seven business days.

    • +1

dispatched 19th for me, still no arrival on my sim card order

      • Same here. It's 29/5 now, and still nothing has arrived. I was just about to order another free SIM card. Good to know I'm not the only one.

      • SIM arrived today

  • Awesome plans, Thanks OP!

Do the plans have per month unused data rollover?

  • Is anybody else having issues with porting their number ? It has been three days and I can't seem to make calls, access internet, or receive texts but it detects the Vodafone network when I put the sim in my phone.

    • I port my number Sunday night (11/6) and Monday morning my number was ported I put the new sim in and worked straight away. turn off your phone remove the sim, put it back on turn it back on and see ?
      might want to contact Kogan

  • FWIW. This is my Speedtest of my new Kogan Mobile service: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/2927429170

I'm in the Rialto building 20 something floor. With H+ full bars on a Samsung S7.

  • Thanks OP

  • bought one and hopefully porting is smooth as….

  • question someone may help:

once 365 days is up, what happens to RENEWAL?
does it auto-renew ($205) for another 365 days of use?
or the number gets disconnected? or I have to port out to different teleco?

    • good question - Maybe ask Kogan via FB and see what the say. Would love to know also.

Mind you i assume that in a years time other telcos will have a better deal if kogan dont let existing customers change to what will be a better plan at the time.

  • So I'm thinking of jumping ship from Vaya to Kogan. Do I just activate with Kogan and port over and then ring Vaya after to get my $20 deposit back?

Anything else I need to do?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Does anyone know if the $4.90 your first month for new customers will be returning?

  • I bought the $1 sim a while ago. Tested Vodafone 4G vs Kogan 4G same device (within 5 minutes of each other, same location).

    Vodafone: 32Mbps
    Kogan: 5Mbps
