Just noticed this Android TV Box on Geekbuying and to add to confusion they have named it Xiaomi Mi Box 3S. Most websites are calling it a Pro version or Enhanced White version.

US$72.99 when you apply the GKBAUG4 coupon code.

This apparently has more grunt than its predecessor as per the following: http://cavarii.blogspot.com.au/2016/03/xiaomi-unveils-mibox-3s-enhanced.html

Mod update: According to store rep, this is for the Mi Box 3 Pro/Xiaomi Mi Box 3 Enhanced Edition not Xiaomi Mi Box 3S.

  • Chinese version. Would advise against buying this.

    • Pardon my ignorance, what would be the main reason for not buying the Chinese version? Assuming the language can be set to English of course :P

      • +1

Bit of a pain to get Android TV on it. If you are buying one of these, you would probably want Android TV on it.

        • This is a normal Android box and not an Android TV OS so the language can easily be changed to English.

        • @batrarobin:

Exactly what I said. Thanks for confirming.

You won't have access to the Android TV store and Apps, so will be pretty useless unless you just want to throw media at it.

        • Thanks, i guess i'll avoid it then.

        • +1

@slinkster: What are the advantages of using Android TV over normal Android?

          @Shermanpk:

google it, I don't care about this. Just tryna help people out.

        • @Shermanpk:
          4k YouTube and Netflix

      • I would say because of this https://www.cyberscoop.com/android-malware-china-huawei-zte-…

This was installed on the Chinese versions of phones, Chinese companies said that phones sold outside of China did not have it. So… if you really want to buy something from China that can connect to the internet (I really do not) at least buy the international version.

Disclaimer: I recently bought a Xiaomi robot, I plan to not connect it to the internet if possible.

I would also suggest to get an international version which comes with Google Play, Full Youtube support than this.

Yeah I don't think this has Android tv os

    • +1

Yeh, don't think this is the successor to the actual Android TV Mi Box

  • Have the previous gen and quite like it, although with adsl2 buffering is a constant issue, faster net speed such as NBN coupled with the possibilities that can be found on the mi box and you are laughing.

    • although with adsl2 buffering is a constant issue, faster net speed such as NBN

That's hilarious, you clearly haven't had the NBN experience yet.

      • +2

NBN has been great for me - FTTP goodness :)

Mate has FTTN and it's quite good too

But agreed - some people lose out - but you can blame Turnbull for that

      • +1

Looking forward to the disappointment. That's Au Net spends for you, Vietnam has faster speeds.

  • I don't think they've just launched it.. it's been out since March 2016 (its in the URL of the article you linked).

MediaTek processor. Bad for Kodi application.

  • +6

The current mi box is cheaper so why would anyone want this.

Also OP is misleading claiming this is a new product. Its running Android 5.1 ffs and the reviews go back to Feb 2016

    • Agreed, a downvoting to try and get a quick sale. They know exactly what they are doing.

      • -4

        Geez..! Tough crowd man…tough crowd..

@slinkster and @Olokun Not trying to sell it… Just came across it and the coupon code so thought I'd post. Agreed the box could be a couple of months older that I wasn't aware but it is the lowest price on internet at the moment. Surely Android TV OS is great but it doesn't suit everyone.

Definitely not the case. There is only myself and a GkB Store Rep active on OzBargain…. and neither of us posted the deal.

Since I'm getting downvoted for stating the truth, see the below link for more info on how useless this is in Aus.

I think in the discussion forum link you posted they are discussing the xiaomi 3s (The little black one that people post quite often here). More specifically, they are complaining about the Chinese domestic market model (model number MDZ-19-AA). Incidentally the international version of the same (MDZ-16-AB) is actually very good in Australia

This is the Xiaomi Mi Box 3S. This deal is on the Mi Box 3 Pro.

      • +1

And when was the Mi Box 3 Pro released?

        • +2

2016 Since negging isn't a reason for having a misleading description I've sent a report to have it updated more accurately.

  • JUST bought the Xiaomi Mi Box 3 from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/303114

i'm so confused, how many different versions are there?

    • +1

Think you got the best/most versatile one.
