  • Good price … just picked some up at BIGW for 12$ a 3 pack.
Would love get some but looks like it is limited to 3 per customer. Would need a few more …

I'd love to know how these deals are worked out; TGG $3 per-unit/ $3 per-pack VS BW $4 per-unit/ $12 per-pack. I'm guessing BW price is their standard but TGG is their clearance price? IDK.

Would Sandisk approach the retailer and basically ask them to clear them because they want to bring out new range or bring more attention to their brand or is it more so that TGG and BW just want to get rid of them. I've heard, from staffers at Tool stores (different type of product range I know) that sometimes a manufacturer will allow them to sell stuff cheaper.

I know it's a bit of a dry topic but I'm so used to just going into stores and buying stuff without much of a second thought about the behind the scenes goings on.

Thanks for the deal hopper :)

USB drives got cheap so quickly compared to floppy disks. Those were the days, only able to carry one or two word doc at a time. We're so spoilt nowadays.

What were they thinking with CDs. Not rewritable (until significantly later at a much higher cost) and the whole burning process was torturous.

I kind of think that CD's (optical discs - non-re-writable) were largely a stop gap, to a certain degree. A sufficiently similarly priced alternative wasn't available at the time and CD's were able to hold more data and were, to a certain amount more robust than floppy discs.

There is a certain joy (I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this) about inserting a floppy into a drive, can't really put my finger on it, I guess more or less a degree of nostalgic exhilaration? It's not even remotely the same with a USB drive I find.

But, absolutely totally agree with you. CD's as a storage medium for personal files kind of sucked.

But a CD could hold so much data at the time.

    • Aahh the nightmares of windows media burning. Good times, good times.

    • gotta make sure BD rips were possible

  • Out of Stock in all Gold Coast stores :-(

Note these are USB 2.0 (10x slower than USB 3.0).

Sadly, the lower end USB 3.0 flash drives don't necessarily perform that much better than USB 2.0 drives. However, my Samsung bar USB 3.0 flash drive can reach up to 50MB/s.

These drives do 4MB/s writes and takes a long time to transfer files to it. I personally would not buy these, because my time is precious to me.

Does anyone remember when these were $2.73?
Pepperidge farm remembers when these were $2.73

OK, i was right not to know wtf you were talking about.

  • Wow what a nostalgic USB drive. Man, any one reckon the last 10 years of life… Has gone really fast lol.

  • Sandisk Cruzers are extremely slow drives. Probably the slowest I have used over the past decade.

  • thx ordered a few for when i have to transfer tv shows and movies for the offline folks or locals… beats $17 at woolies for a 16gb usb 3.. tho i'm sure the speed will kill me! but sick of lending nice flash drives to people to never see again :|
