  • Are they any good?

    • This one is well reviewed

    • +1

I've had one for 2 or 3 years now, and have been pretty happy with it.

My only complaint, is that I wish it was a little smaller. The passenger ends up with a delayed view of the road infront of their face

      • +3

Tucked mine up behind the rear vision mirror.

      • It could only improve the wife's navigation skills

        • +5

Or show where she got lost :-)

      • -2

Isn't that what the screensaver is for?

    • Yes

    • +4

      I have 3 in 2 cars.
      - gives a memory card dummy spit every few months
      - one has stopped recording altogether
      - one has lost ability to set date
      - I'm not confident its saving all the footage properly. It seems to miss some days. I've lost faith in it and will upgrade to a Vifo A119S when I can afford.

      • I have fixed mine on 2 occasion by cleaning the memory card contacts.

      • Agree. I have lost recordings and never got an error message. Unreliable device.
AVOID this device at all cost.

  • Was pretty happy with it initially until it suddenly went on a never ending reboot, turns on then restarts after 5 seconds or so, and just couldn't snap out of it. Google search shows other users having similar issue, and that others managed to fix their issue via a firmware update (which I was unable to find in GearBest's website).

      LG version? ;-)

      • +1

        too soon

    • Sounds a bit like the one I received from GearBest, mine goes black and stays black unless I plug it into a computer, but even then it didn't record anything.

      • Did you contact Gearbest about the problem? Give them a chance to resolve it!

  • Bought 3, all good!
Paid more than the price for sure.

  • Tempting….

  • +1

Re the -CB. C= capacitor model. B= black lens ring. Previous models had a silver lens ring..
    https://dashcamtalk.com/g1w/

  • Looks good! I'm gonna give it a go! Thanks!

  • can this run when the car is off?

    • +1

No, unless you install an additional power module in your car. I wouldn't recommend it as this so-called Parking Mode is not well implemented in this cam.

    • Just buy a Blackvue power magic pro and hardwire it to your fuse box, got mine from a guy in Korea for around $36 cheapest I could find

I've bought bucketloads of these over the last 18-24 months. Refer to the write up in a deal I posted last year for notes, tips & tricks: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238071 Excellent DashCams but do have a few little things to get your head around in order to get the most out of them. I dare say there would be other better ones at a similar price out by now but these would still be up there.

  • Noob question here.

How does this power? Internal power that can be charged off 12v in car?

    Sorry a little confusing.

    • Cigarettes lighter hole

    • Plugs into cig ligher hole… when you start car camera turns on. when you turn car off camera stops.
See youtube for thousands of how to vids on dash cams.

This product is rubbish (at least the one I brought from GearBest about 2 months ago). It comes on but then screen goes off within 5 seconds (and it's meant to stay on longer then that). The only way to turn it on (after the screen goes off) is when it's plugged in a computer, not just a charger. I took the memory card out, it didn't record. Complete junk.
    I PROBABLY GOT A FAKE: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/comments/2by338/beware_of_f…

Yes I had charged it so it wasn't flat. The device is either faulty or a fake.

Mine cost $35.29 on my credit card.

    • -3

So they are charging more now then when I purchased mine.

      "Subtotal
G1W-CB Full Black 2.7 inch 1080P Full HD Car DVR 4X Digital Zoom Video Recorder 120 Degree Wide Angle Lens with Charger (Safe Capacitor) Color:BLACK 132992601 1 $45.00
      Subtotal $45.00
      Shipping & Handling $0.07
      Grand Total $30.06"

I sure that there was either a code that brought the price lower or it was cheaper on checkout. My credit card doesn't show any conversion rate so was charged in Australian dollars.

        Have a nice day buddy.

        • -2

You've changed your grammar patrolling posting, you had "than*" and not what you have there now "Have a nice day buddy." Especially when you had finished instead of finishes.

        • @Sydney Guy:

And you sent me a PM going through my posting history showing my spelling mistakes from months and months ago. I figured I don't have time to argue with someone who clearly has nothing better to do than search through random people's internet posts.

          Have a nice night*.

        • -2

Took me less then 10 seconds to find an example.

"I figured I don't have time to argue with someone who clearly has nothing better to do than search through random people's internet posts."
But you did have time to try to point out (without actually quoting what which bit was wrong), than instead of then, so clearly you do have time to do something which is not productive, it's not like I am going to change because of your posting which you've removed.

I don't need grammar police going pointing out in a way where they aren't even actually pointing out what they are referring to in their attempt of being the grammar police.

Now this did take longer then 10 seconds.

        • Sounds a bit like fatal attraction….You guys need to make up!

    • You potentially got a fake or a lemon however there are a few things to note when using these, even the genuine ones. Setup is important plus you really need to only ever use a Samsung Evo card in them because anything else has been known to cause issues. Refer to the guide I wrote up in a deal I posted about a year ago (link in a comment above). I've bought dozens and dozens of them and most are still in use 18-24 months later!

    • +2

1… You cant charge it.. it is a capacitor model, not the battery model (if you got the -c or -cb model.
2… I would suspect your car power socket or the adapter. It is common for some cheap adapters not to make good or constant contact and cause the camera to only work for a short time. The fact that the camera works with a reliable power source like you say I would suspect your in car power supply source and not the camera.

      • +1

"1… You cant charge it.. it is a capacitor model,"

Just what I was thinking. Capacitor is only going to give a few seconds operation just to close off the last recording when the car is turned off.

  • Which one is better - G1W-C or G1W-CB?

    • They're both the same except the lens ring colour. The 'C' has a chrome ring around the lens whereby the 'ÇB' is all black. I prefer the CB as it's a bit more stealthy but each to their own.

  • +2

I have purchased 5 of these G1W cameras in the past (although none were this C capacitor model) - only 2 are still in active service.

On one the battery died so the final recording (up to 3 mins long) of each trip gets corrupted (probably not an issue with the capacitor model offered in this deal).
2 others kept falling off the window - the suction cup not working that great.
And they stick out like dogs balls - hanging down lower than the rear vision mirror.

I replaced 2 of them with the superior (and stealthy) A119 (with capacitor and GPS module) for around $100 ea.
The GPS module sticks to the window via a sticky-pad, so does not fall off in the heat. The camera just clips off as required.

Would not go back to the G1W series - although this is a cheap price for anyone who doesnt want to spend $100 on the better A119.

  • +1

Mine worked well for a year, then slowly died. $30 for a year is probably fair

  • +1

Mine is still going nearly 2 years in operation. BTW I would thoroughly recommend a fixed mount rather than the stick on or suction cap type: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mirror-Bracket-Holder-Mount-For-D… please note they do require a reasonably thin mirror pole of some length, I changed cars and it while it fit on my previous vehicles mirror (non electronic dimming) it was a battle to fit it onto the wider shorter mirror pole of my new car.

  • Mine has been flawless for >2 years.
    Bought this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163009

  • Excellent first time post op :)

  • is it worth getting priority post?
do you choose au express or australia express? or are they the same thing?

    • I just bought one and selected au express and insurance. Still a good deal at $45.14 delivered.

  • Mine doesn't hold the date at all so I ended up disabling the time stamp. After disabling time stamp the device actually remembers the date for significant periods of time (2 weeks or more) and doesn't lose the date. I am able to find the files easier as it retains the date but I lose my time stamp.

  • To make any dashcam reliable hardwire it. Get cheap hardwire kits for dashcams on ebay and also fuse adapters to use as a safe power source. A lot of dash cams play up because of unreliable power supply from cig socket power supplies.

  • The buttons on these rattle while you're driving and will make its way into the audio recording. Put some tape on buttons to stop the rattle.

  • Had one since last deal, so far so good. Just set and forget really, no recording issues.

  • Just need a microsd deal too

    • you mean like this one?

SanDisk Ultra 32GB Micro SD $17.99 @ Officeworks

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/307993

      • Thanks but are you sure that SD card works with this dashcam? I read that only Samsung evo and Kingston class 10 are guaranteed to work.

  • +1

no don't trust Gearbest - I've bought a pair of earphones from them - Mosidun brand and never received it. I've tried going on their shady 'accounts' website to check for delivery status but to no avail and I've never ever received any contact or my money back. It's gone and I've never been able to get a decent reply from them! What a dodgy company. I will never buy anything from those crooks. luckily the earphones only costed a small amount.

  • I bought from GearBest twice, never received anything. The tracking numbers never worked, they may be fake. One tracking number pointed to Russia, showing the parcel goes back and forth in Moscow airport transit facility even though the parcel was send from Singapore to Australia. If you don't enjoy frustration make sure to avoid GearBest. It's no fun.

  • brought one but cash rewards didnt track it. what can i do?

  • +1

just got mine delivered! It works with a 128GB card! I'll see if it can fill it.. Pretty happy with the quality! I hope it runs and saves video properly! Thanks OP for the post.
Mine's got a 2017.0111 firmware which is good as well.. hopefully the bugs are ironed out.

    • would you mind let me know what brand and Class card you used? thanks in advance

      • Sandisk Ultra
I've just installed it in the car so I'll give it a few days to fill up the SD card . I'll let you know if I have any problems

        • Thanks mate

        • @TechVisar:

I had some problems where the card seemed to record properly for the first 30 mins or so, but after that, there were chunks of footage missing and only 10 second videos instead of 5 minute videos…. I reset the thing and have to give it a good go again.
I'll try and find a lower capacity SD card too, maybe its something in the software that doesn't allow it to write to larger cards properly… it only took up 7 gb though….

    • I just received mine too, trying to figure out if its a fake or not, is your date and time in yellow font on the middle-right of the video upon playback on PC? Thanks in advance!

      • The date and time was in the lower right I think from memory, I'll let you know once I've given the cam a good go

        • Alright sweet thanks a lot! send me a message whenever 😊

        • @MR TAN:

mines in a yellow font, bottom middle right.
How can you tell if its fake??
