      Thanks added to post

  • I bought the approx 1kg boxes of medjool dates from ALDI last year as my local Woolworth's didn't have then at this price. Hoping this year is different.

Go to any middle Eastern grocery store and get 500gm Persian export grade dates for about $3. Works out around $6 a kg and they are the good soft variety. Not the hard break your teeth type

  • These are so good. Always buy them during Ramadan.

  • Anyone know where these specific ones are grown ?

They always seem to be from the USA whenever I see them at coles/woolies

Medjools are usually from USA or Mexico. The other varieties are in the Middle Eastern stores (and Harris Farms) are usually from North Africa (Morrocco/Egypt), Iran and the UAE (IMHO the Iranian soft variety are the best ones). Just check the box as some use a bit of vegetable oil for preservative and that can affect taste.

Can confirm that Ramadan is the reason for the cheapest dates annually as it is traditional to break the fast (at sunset) with a date.

  • Ramadan is Coming intensifies

  • Great price. If you miss out, they are $15.42/kg ($13.99 for 907g) at ALDI from 24 May.

Try Deglet Noor dates, they're crunchy (soft/sticky when ripe) and Sweet. Product of Tunisia. Sometime found at WW.

  • Thanks lyl, Woolworths Online was extremely generous. They look delicious!
