"Our decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into"

I love it how companies bark orders like they're doing us the biggest favour.

    I should email them
" I will continue to write fake reviews for companies that have screwed me over until I am content and no correspondence will be entered into"

Everyone should post a review for ozbargain and get their $5

      • +4

First "review" is hilarious, especially this bit:

Lastly, be careful in what you say and do on the site, because one wrong move will see you penetrated from every direction. DON'T DROP THE SOAP!

I'm guessing he had a run-in with Tightarse.

        • Or JV:-)

        • @supabrudda:
          Or …the victim

        • @medium_tight:

          Username checks out.

        • Ironic considering if he dropped the soap his arse wouldn't be tight anymore

    • Wow. Just wow. I knew productreview was bad but not that bad. What a bunch of whingers.

      • +6

        Almost as bad as OzB

    • Sounds like reviews of north korea
Long live scotty our supreme leader

    • Ok, which one of you left the 3/5 review titled '5 stars for shizzle'? hah

      • Had to lol at the name Vas Deferens

    • I tend to agree about OZB matching up information being a negative…

Looks like that 1 star review is pretty darn accurate.

pity the category doesn't cover food items ….. coles doughnuts coooked in high cholesterol palm oil instread of sunflower lit, biscuits with palm oil instead of butter ( obviously not endorsed by country women's association) … food categories i'd do for free compared to how much crap is in a lot of brands.

    • palm oil has high saturated fat, which your body turns into cholesterol.

But the reason it gets used as it tastes better then other veggie oils (sunflower & canola).

But not sure why they'd use it intead of butter, as animal fat is even tastier! Maybe it aimed at people who don't like animal products?

But I agree a food review (especially supermarket stuff) would be great, especially home brand products.

      • You can do stores, if you just want to kick the crap out of Coles.

      • palm oil has high saturated fat, which your body turns into cholesterol.

Which is not unhealthy - in fact you will have low testosterone levels if you avoid saturated fats - unless you believe the Australian gummints whose health messages are controlled by the sugar industry from 60 years ago.

        • Yes although people who eat Coles donuts probably aren't likely to have issues with low saturated fat intake ;-)

Reading product review it sounds like there's no issues with low testosterone levels…ya bullies stop eating saturated fat donuts

I like the review by francesco - OZbargain "Terrible! It is like dictator dictate." 1 star, but then reviews Android Enjoyed "Bought smartphone Xiaomi and arrived perfect in three days" 5 stars ????

"I bought a phone and it was so cheap. so I bought another and another and another. I now have 12 cheap phones. I don't know what Ill do with them. shipping took less than 12 hours." Seems Legit ;)

  • Like I say about review sites: if it's able to be edited by anyone then it's utterly worthless. Pretending you have some magical powers to divine fake reviews doesn't change this.

    • While it may look like magic to someone with insufficient critical thinking skills, I can assure you it's not!

Can I analyse an individual review and come to a conclusive assessment? No. Can I read multiple reviews and pick up patterns etc which give me a reasonably accurate impression? Yes.

  • Reviewed Ozbargain and the iPhone 7 Plus. Now we play the waiting game…

    • Note your ozbargain review won't count as it's not one of the listed categories.

      • +1

I was under the impresson that only the second review had to be in one of the mentioned categories, not both. Now reviewing something else to make sure!

        • This is correct, only the 2nd reviews has to be in a specified category

  • i haven't been invited. posted 1 review ages ago. have emailed to confirm eligibility.

ProductReview is like any other site where people post their "experiences", e.g Trip Advisor, Zomato or even Ozbargain. Some people post fake reviews, some people post real reviews, all you are looking for is the trend and to look at the history of the posters. People on Productreview whine about Ozbargain, people on Ozbargain whine about Zomato, and lots of people whine about Trip Advisor. My view is you look at the sites and sift the wheat from the chaff. I've learned some valuable information from all of these sites; the secret is to sniff out the suspect ones. PS - I didn't post the "soap" review, but I did laugh at it.

  • did this and got the gift card in my email a week or so later. good deal

Hey guys, I work for ProductReview so I'm happy to answer any questions about this promotion. I'm glad you're all interested in the promotion, and OzBargainers are the type of people we want to have on the site. You buy a lot, care about quality, are usually tech-savvy, and not afraid of putting your opinion out there!

A few questions off the bat that frequently get asked:

    • "How do I enter?"
If you write one review for anything, you will get directed to a 'Thank You' page showing the text in the OP. Click one of those links, then search for the product you wish to review. Each individual member is only eligible to receive one gift card per month, although you are welcome to enter every month if you like.

    • "When do I get my gift card?"
At the end of each month we automatically pull all the users who are eligible for a gift card, send the order to Coles, and then email the cards out once we receive them. This usually takes a few days. Since the 31st is a Wednesday this month we may be extremely lucky to get the cards sent out by Friday, but much more likely Monday or Tuesday. The gift cards are emailed from '[email protected]' (if you have any questions about any promotion you can email this address)

    • "I didn't get a gift card"
Please make sure your review is in the right category. If you click on one of the ones listed you can't go wrong. The product you review should also be currently available, if the listing has a "discontinued" notice, it's probably not eligible for this promotion.

I'm also happy to answer questions people may have about fake reviews. Obviously I don't believe that fraudulent reviews are anywhere near as endemic to ProductReview as some people (OzB, Whirlpool, business owners) think they are. In general, most businesses have more happy customers than unhappy. Most satisfied customers never think to write a review because they have no problem, but a customer who feels ripped off will not hesitate to get online and rant. If a business has good communication channels with all their customers and can ask them to write a review, they are able to pool feedback from both their satisfied (usually the majority) and unsatisfied (a vocal minority) customers.

The most common 'fake review' reports we get are:

"This business got 6 positive reviews in one day, all from new users! I think something dodgy is going on."
    - It's much more likely this business just emailed their 100 most recent customers and asked them to leave a review. This is not unusual, uncommon or illegal.

"This business has a lot of positive reviews, but trust me I have used their services and they are awful, those reviews must be fake!"
    - It's likely they just dropped the ball with you. It's uncommon for a business to consistently deliver an awful product and still stay afloat for long…

If anyone would like any more information feel free to comment here or message me. I can't promise I can answer every question, but will do my best to be honest.

    • Your website hosts companies which offer rewards for positive reviews only. This is against the rules set by ACCC and your website.

I made a complaint about one company to both you and the ACCC with no outcome. All that changed was that a small banner saying 'this company offers rewards for reviews' was created in their review page.

What should've happened is that either:

      • The page was removed for breach of practice and breaking the law
      • or all reviews prior to my complaint were removed and start over again, since they were all null and void as they were financially motivated.

The company in question offered to win back the purchase price only if a positive review was given. Additionally, no details about any supposed winner of this 'competition' were given, leading me to think they never actually give out the offer to anyone ever - just a carrot in front of stupid donkeys that believe it.

So.. in this case, I think the label of 'fake' for these reviews is well justified.

      • +1

Hi, I believe I know the company you are talking about here. Unfortunately I can't go into any detail about the proceedings, but we are currently working with the ACCC on this issue, and have removed a number of reviews.

  • Obviously I don't believe that fraudulent reviews are anywhere near as endemic to ProductReview as some people

Neither do I, but the problem with Product Review is that it's a site for people to vent their displeasure, and in a lot of cases the issues are due to the user and not the actual product.

I've seen numerous great products trashed so I don't take any of it seriously.

I realise all review sites have this to a degree but it's endemic to Product Review, perhaps you should change the name to Product Whine?

    • I agree this can be the case for big mainstream companies (e.g. Coles/Woolworths, most big ISPs or Mobile Network providers, etc), but on the whole we get more positive than negative reviews, so the site is not as much of a venting ground as it may seem.

    Thanks OP.

waiting for my gift cards now

  • Submitted reviews using 2 account.
Received gift cards on one account and not on the other.

  • I might be a bit stupid and or ignorant here, but when I signed up with Product Review.Com, and read the terms and conditions, my interpretation of the terms and conditions were, that "every" second published review is entitled to a $5.00 Coles gift card. So if you have one review published then its one gift card, two reviews published, two gift cards, and so forth and so forth and so forth (My maths is bad, but it is not THAT bad!) So, I wrote 56 reviews within the monthly time frame (which bar one) were all published? So? as far as I am concerned 56 x $5.00 = $280.00 (in gift card equivalent value) But no? Product Review have advised me that I am only entitled to one gift card, but as a token of their appreciation, decided to give me a $20.00 gift card??? (Which despite their overwhelming generosity, falls far short of the original figure of $280.00, which I believe under their own terms and conditions, they should have given me!)Oh and finally, don't write anything overly negative or critical on this website, because it will NEVER be published!!!

Final two bits worth. I like reading the reviews on this website, but don't bother opening an account with them because it won't end happily!

    • Out of 56 reviews, every second review would add up to 28. OP's link arrives at a page saying…

Get a $5 Coles gift card for your second review

… not every second review, therefore reviews after that second review cannot qualify. Welcome to OzBargain.

    • That was a pretty.. interesting.. assumption to make
