MSY Tuesday Only - Just 10 cents a disc.

Probably not worth going too far out of your way for this one, but if passing by a store on Tuesday, you can't go wrong for $5.

there's an msy right over the road from my house… too bad there's no chance i'll be able to get there during business hours

  • To bad they will only have 5 left in stock ;)

    • In the past they have separate inventories for Tuesday specials, one would hope the same process will be applied here.

      • Cheers Portmac - certainly beats the usual process of going in and slowly whitling the list down to items they actually have in stock :)

They're Ritek, I wouldn't expect that alot of people would buy it given that data burnt on these won't last too long

Great price.. but these are Riteks. Think I'm going to give them a miss, I actually value the data I burn.

"you can’t go wrong for $5."

Well… they are Riteks, all I'll say is you get what you pay for.

Does MSY still sell Taiyo Yuden DVD blanks?

Looks like it, this from their price list:

      100” DVD-R Genuine Taiyo Yuden OEM 8x / 16x 48 / 52

meh i dont trust dodgy msy to have stock….just bait to get u in store imo

  • Thanks i will get some. I usually use DVD-RW's with my DVD Recorder, but seeing as they cost $2 each, might was well get 50 DVD-R's for $5, 20 times cheaper.
Just a little worried about the negative comments on Ritek media. Fingers crossed.

  • the 2 item limit sucks. i was planning on stocking on cheap media at this price.
never had any problem with cheap media and data retention.

  • 2 pack limit is a turn off not worth going out of your way for this one. Also chances are it will sell out in the first hour and guarantee your be waiting for ages in the line only to find out no stock since there probably wasnt much to start with. I smell lure bair here to get people into the store.

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book for MSY. Put up a horrible quality product at a cheap & nasty price to get you in, then they sell you something they make money off of & actually have in stock.

Just to make it VERY clear, MSY don't have any stock of this product in any store in SA (and other states) at the moment & they haven't had this product that's currently on sale in stock for ages. To make matters worse, the stock item on sale (Ridata discs) are one of the worst quality DVD's you can buy, with data becoming unreliable on the discs in less than 3 months in my experience. You'd have to hate someone alot to burn something for them on a disc of that poor quality reliability.

Interesting comments about Ritek/Ridata. I ONLY use Ritek as I've found it the most reliable of the cheaper bunch. Been using Riteks for 5 or so years (400 burned discs) with no problems. I guess it depends on your storage medium (e.g. having them in a folder rather than sitting exposed on a desk/floor whatever).

Depending on what you want to use the DVD-Rs for. For important data or family photos, I much prefer Taiyo Yuden (made in Japan). For occasional backup, transport of files, Ritek will do.

I have Ritek CD-Rs and DVD-Rs failed to work properly after 2-3 years. It might just be 3-5% of them, but I happened to only have 1 copy of some of the files. I stored them in jewel cases and they still failed.

Anyway, it is good that you never have any problem with them. It is a very good deal though.

    • Did you use +R or -R ? If -R, go and check your data again.

      • Either or. When I burn I always do a verify, so I can suss out the bad DVDs at the beginning.

Netsurfer, you're right about backing up important things. I only backup TV shows and movies to discs. Family pictures and important documents, I stick to HDs. Crashplan backing up home PC to work PC works like a charm.

bad dvds don't turn up at the point of toasting. ;)

the problem is with the reflective material deteriorating within months…. in such, i ended up buying harddisks and copying entire files wholesale instead… (xfer is faster too..)

      • The 16x -Rs are OK, it was only the 8x -Rs with the dodgy dye that are the problem.

  • Bought two spindles at Cheltenham store. They said they had 'heaps'.

brought 2 at Ultimo NSW @11:30am and they still have lots at the time

  • Bought two at boxhill store, no queue and plenty of stock.

Riteks aren't that bad compared to brands like laser and princo, if you want premium that's a different story.

    • Yeah, agree have had issuies with laser ones. Worst ones by far were the HP ones, not a single one worked in the pack. We use Verbatim & TDK at work and we toss the DVDs around. Still work great.

Thanks OP for posting. Just sent the wife to MSY Brooklyn and got one of the last 2 spindles left. Apparently, there were lots of people in line to get the DVDs and one person serving.

Brave man sending your wife in to wait at the MSY queues

  • Bought 2 from Brooklyn and 2 from nth melbourne today, had plenty of stock when i went in there.

  • Bought 2 from Pascoe Vale, no queues whatsoever.. a breeze..
