Great deals on those automatics. I'd buy quickly since Amazon are so quick to end their sale prices.

The Grand Diver looks a little big for my tastes

    • +1

Yeah you need a big wrist to pull that off.

      • +2

Maybe amend title from 47m to 47mm?

  • Great value.

    • the 40mm has that classic sub look… match it to leather or nato… its a winner

the open hearts less so… there's no need to see the agricultural insides of the seiko mech - also i wouldnt give away date for that

      • the agricultural insides

Harsh, but I did laugh! Supports hand winding & hacking though. But the date comment is true.

Invicta are poor quality watches that are shunned by most who have even a vague clue about decent watches. The movement in the "Pro Diver" listed above is manufactured by Seiko but that's where the comparison ends. Invicta also use Miyota (Citizen) movements in some of their watches but neither Seiko or Citizen have any partnership with Invicta, although Invicta has falsely facilitated that assumption.

    • +5

It's $60USD for a reasonably accurate automatic diver style watch. A Seiko is about $200USD. I don't think anybody is mixing them up with Patek Philippe.

      • -3

You could put a Lexus engine in a Great Wall but it'll still be a shitbox.

        • +3

Maybe you should tell that to the watch freaks over at the Invicta 8926OB modding thread. I'm sure they'd love to hear your opinion. Why would they waste countless hours modding a shitty watch case?

It's usually people who have never owned an Invicta Pro Diver with Seiko Movement that make comments like that.

          Link's in the description.

        • And maybe you should tell this long list of disgruntled people on the US Consumer Affairs website how great Invicta watches are, I'm sure they'd love to hear your opinion. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/retail/invicta-watches.html

        • +1

          @WatchNerd:

The guy has no idea what's he's on about. Put aside the 'poor quality' aspect because i would guarantee there's a lot more swiss defects than invicta but he doesnt know seiko and citizen sell non branded movts. to anyone who will buy them much like eta or ronda etc.

when people say its a seiko its because it has a seiko movt. not becuase we assume there's some 'partnership' with seiko.

lotus use toyota engines. so what.

also consumer affairs in the usa is irrelevant to us. we're buying from amazon, they pickup the warranty.

        • @Chateau: HoustonReal who has more than a vague clue about decent watches sums up this issue nicely -

"Even if Invicta is an order of magnitude worse in quality control than Seiko, what does that mean? Do you have a 1/1000 chance of a bad Invicta vs 1/10,000 chance of a bad Seiko? Nobody here has actual statistics about quality and failure rates, so everything is anecdotal. There are lots of people here who have had no problems with their Invictas. There are also a lot of people here who have never owned an Invicta, who will tell you horror stories about someone they heard about who had one. The NH35A movement is basically an upgraded version of the 7S26 with hacking and hand winding, AKA the Seiko 4R35. Seiko uses them in a few upper end 5's and the new Monster divers, so it should offer the same bullet-proof reliability.

Buy from someplace with a good return policy, if you're that worried, like Amazon. If Invictas were really as awful as some people here think, they would be out of business. Instead, their big ugly monster watches, not only sell well on Evine, but there are pirated versions of Invicta Reserves being manufactured in China. Do you think Evine would continue hawking Invictas if a significant number of them were getting returned?"

Invicta's Pro Diver line is somewhat respected here, with the 8926 being really popular for modding. The 9404 is the same basic model, with different color choices. I have heard people here who have had bad experiences with Orient watches, but that brand seems immune to the hate Invicta garners.

        • @WatchNerd: Invicta's poor reputation didn't just evolve out of thin air. They are synonymous with poor quality because the build quality of their watches is sub-standard and the company frequently dishonors the provided warranty. They have also been caught out lying about associations with quality watch manufacturers. They are a disreputable company in many regards and their poor reputation is well earned. That said, if you're financially hard up and want the "look" of a cool divers watch for a fraction of the price of the real thing, Invicta might be a good choice for you.

        • +1

@Chateau: You still haven't stated if you have owned a Pro Diver?

I own one and have modded it, so I know the watch case very well and was surprised at the quality. For under $100 with a Seiko auto movement, it's a no brainer.

I'm pretty sure it's going to last about 20-25 years before needing a service

        • -2

@WatchNerd: I don't and I definitely would never buy an Invicta "Pro Diver". There's nothing pro about it and it's not a divers watch. My daily beater is a Seiko SKX007J, an ISO 6425 certified diving watch. You can pick one up for around $300 and it'll last you a lifetime. A much wiser investment, I'm sure you'd agree, WatchNerd.

        • +3

          Its a $300 watch. This is a $99 watch.

I think my entire collection of invictas isnt $300 in total.

Also the Seiko uses the basic 7S26 inside… the same as the $50 Seikos I have in my drawer.

          Where's the value?

My Invictas all use the Seiko NH35, they all hack and can be hand wound. Can yours?

IMO owning as Invicta isnt a huge decision… they are $100 watches. You certainly invest a lot of spittle into it dont you?

Would I get upset if a $100 watch ups and dies? No. they are under 2yrs of Amazon warranty.

Hell, I dont even get as upset as you when someone slags off my Omega and Rolex.

  • Now if this was cheaper i'd get it.
At 47mm doubles as a blunt object.

BTW the CCC charts aren't working for me…

  • Hey @WatchNerd

Care to make a comment on any of these other Invicta options?
I'm not absolutely sure they were all available when you posted.

    1. Pro Diver 44mm 200m mineral crystal @ USD 39.99 + postage. From Japan but FA price history.

    2. Invicta 50mm 100m synthetic sapphire @ USD 49.99 + postage. Says from China, and way down in price.

    3. Pro Diver automatic 40mm 200m mineral crystal with screw-down crown @ USD 59.99 + postage. From Malaysia but no price history.

I'm mainly looking at the last two - the colour of that first one is a little peculiar, and the second is massive. I'm relying on the specs on Amazon but you've taught me to be suspect with that.

BTW i can't personally fathom the differential in list price between say this and this. Is there any logic to those numbers?

    • Invicta site links are 1, 2 and 3.

      • Yes I saw those when posting this deal, but tried to stick with Invicta Pro Divers for reasons commented above.
I didn't post that gold model because it's gold.

I also love aviator watches, and the Invicta Quartz model in my description has a nice clean look for a great price.

You should always buy what you like as you're the one who has to wear it and never pay attention to Invicta list price, just check Camel.

        • +1

I didn't post that gold model because it's gold.

          Ha!
Yeah i was starting to think i was maybe on the wrong track, and that edge stamping is a little overwhelming. Thanks for your gentle guidance - i think there might be Bower Bird blood in my family.

My watch fetish developed last year, and i don't have any automatics and would like to have one, and would prefer to see the skeletal action. In any case i only realised after posting that the black in your main post is basically in the same grouping as my #3.

Only just worked out what hacking was - ability to effectively stop & set the second hand. At first i thought it had something to do with modding - too long a computer nerd…

        • +1

Hacking means the seconds hand stops when you pull the crown out to set the time, you can't actually set it.

The Pro Divers & Grand Divers all have a display caseback, you can check the short video on Amazon to confirm this.

The edge stamping doesn't stand out as much in reality. It can also be removed by filing if you are handy with tools.
See the link in the description to the modding thread on Watchuseek.

        • @WatchNerd:

Sorry to bug you, but can give any guidance on the following?

I'm looking at getting this, mainly for the Seiko automatic movement, and i can swim with it. Don't need the date.

Then i'd want to file the edge stamping (no problem), remove the face (get rid of all the Invicta logos and reveal whatever is underneath, which won't include any date loop), and replace the second hand.

          So my questions are:

          1. Will there be nothing but boring bare plates under the face (apart from the pre-existing window), and if so where would i get replacement faces apart from other watches?

          2. Can i use any second hand i can pull off a cheap Chinese watch and stick on this, or are the holes non-standard and will just disrupt the whole timing anyway?

          3. Should i have any trouble getting replacement gaskets/o-rings given i'm taking the back off? I'm reading that parts are an issue with Invicta.

I understand i'll need to get a couple of tools off eBay for removing the back and hands, and I can live with inadvertently trashing it…

        • 1 - Yes it will be bare plates, the exhibition caseback is the best way to see the insides of the watch. You can buy parts from Yobokies How do you buy from Yobokies?
There is another seller, but I've forgotten the name. It's in the modding thread somewhere, or just Google it.

It's best to read a fair bit of the modding thread on Watchuseek in my description before starting as it's a wealth of information.

2 - No you can't use any second hand.

3 - It's unlikely that you will damage the gasket, but once the back is removed you might want to get it pressure tested when you put it back together to be sure.

You are better off buying the Invicta Pro Diver 23678 for modding, as it has the Seiko NH35A Automatic Movement, which probably has more parts available.

        • @WatchNerd:

Thanks for all that! And yes, i'll poke around some more in watchuseek.

I'm after an automatic where i can see the cogs in action from the front, but those i've looked at seem to have a low atm rating.

        • @WatchNerd:

I've been distracted by this, this and this - especially the second one, which are all listed here after i noticed this post.

Care to warn me off them? Some have a little bit of gold, which may be an issue. The ones i've listed all have display casebacks. Don't know if they're worth an OB posting.

I have to admit that until i saw them i didn't know it was possible to get a Japanese automatic for just over $60.

The main issue for me is remembering to take it off when showering or swimming.

        • J.Springs are owned by Seiko - from what I have read & going by the prices, they are a lower quality.

Of coarse the movements are exactly the same as what is used in some Seiko models, so you just have to weigh up what you want.

        • @WatchNerd:

Thanks for all your help WatchNerd.

I think i'll get a J.Spring - they also get a bit of modding action, but thinking about the Invicta's helped me get there.
