Word of warning for the QC35's, it is advised that you don't update the firmware from 1.0.6 (pre-loaded firmware) because there is known issues which they're trying to fix over time.

    • I think 2 weeks due to weather. They do attach a message saying orders may be delayed during high-volume sales but I ordered straight off the bat —> dispatched a few hours later.

    • I ordered Monday afternoon and received mine yesterday first thing.

  • Bose is offering full refund on QC35 if you upgraded it's firmware and killed Active Noice Cancelling

I got my refund ($450 bought in 2016 when released) and just bought Sony MDR - 1000X at the same price from eBay Videopro 20% sale.

Bless Bose for screwing up at the right time to buy a better headphone at same price.

Went into JB HiFi today and had a listen to Bose QC35, Sony MDR1000X and Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Over the Ear. All were listening through cables to their demos (so I could assume Sonys had Hi Res, which would be uneven match against the other two).

    Physical Comfort:
    1) QC35
    2) MDR1000X
    3) Momentum 2.0

QC35 feel so good, comfortable and soft. I would say long term use (4-5 hours+) this would make a huge difference. MDR1000X felt tighter and not as soft. Moment felt like they weren't completely over the whole ear and were pushing a small amount around the back.

    ANC:
Can't compare as it seems that MDR1000X display model was broken? Buttons did nothing. Momentum wasn't the wireless version and thus no ANC.

    Sound:
    1) Momentum 2.0
    2/3) QC35/MDR1000X

Momentum was WAY ahead of the other two. Was a pleasure to listen to! Just wanted to smile listening to them.
MDR1000X had good clarity and separation of treble/mid/bass. Unfortunately the Bass was so boomy that it overpowered everything else, I felt like I couldn't turn the volume up (in order to hear other stuff) because the bass would just be painful. So yes everything was clear but bass really ruined it. I can only hope that the battery was flat and that when it's charged the amp and equaliser tone down the bass.
QC35 was in some ways better but in some ways worse than MDR1000X. The treble was 'brighter'/sharper, and the bass was less precise. On the good side the whole range was more balanced so it was easier to listen to music.

    Overall:
I would need to assume that Momentum wireless ANC is reasonable (the reviews say its good but not as good as QC35). If I assume that then I would say that for short commutes and not super noisy environments (maybe an office) Momentum is way in front, its like taking a first place when everyone else is being placed third or lower.
For long travel (international flights out of Australia) its a tricky decision. If I wanted to have ANC the whole time then I would go QC35 as they would be so much more comfortable, and listening to them would be easier but at sacrifice of some quality of sound. If on the other hand I wanted to now and then listen to music and take the headphones off for some periods, AND could get the bass to be more controlled via EQ (or maybe, as I said before, the mix is different with ANC), and I wanted more clarity in the music then MDR1000X would be the choice. If you love bass then in terms of physical comfort for extended listening QC35 may still snag it anyway.

    Short travel: Momentum
Long travel: QC35, unless MDR 1000X gets that bass lowered and then it would depend on how long the headphones are being used (not long then MDR1000X, long then QC35 may be still worth the physical comfort).
That's how the listening test played out for me, leaving the store hoping that MDR1000X's bass was only because they may have been unpowered (I can't guaranty that they weren't).

I would suggest that people go into a store where they can listen to their own music on all three. Your millage may vary. You may have a different experience of them all.
