Where are the bargains? There was a post removed a couple of days ago for just having a XX% off due to no bargains listed. What makes ebay XX% an exception?

    • -2

Open your eyes, so long as prices don't jack there are quite a few bargains.

      • +3

        please list some bargains.

    • There was a post removed a couple of days ago for just having a XX% off due to no bargains listed. What makes ebay XX% an exception?

In terms of moderation, the difference is not because it is eBay but because it is a fixed discount not an "up to 20% off" sale. The relevant bit in the deal posting guidelines is:

Deal posts that contains ambiguous or non descriptive titles such as 'up to 50% off sale', 'big clearance' or 'sale' may be unpublished unless specific items are mentioned within the deal description OR a dedicated offer/discount such as '50% off sale' is present (preferably in the title).

      • +2

        Hi Mod,

The other post was 50% off <insert brand> and up to XX% off <insert other brands>.

    • +2

      Edit:
      To make it clearer:
      1) Over the weekend a post was put up (by someone else) for XX% off sale and knowing what they sell lots of bargains are expected but none listed.
      2) The post was removed due to 'no bargains listed'.
      3) What makes this ebay XX% off, with expected bargains, different to the other XX% off sale with expected bargains?

      • Can you please provide more info (the store or poster in question) via TWAM so that we can look into it?

      • That is bad. Please keep us posted.
I have seen it in the past with few posts which were allowed and few not, but could not prove it and thought not worth the time to argue with Mods.

        • +2

          Hi Gaggy,
I asked and got a good and well described reply!
          The short version:
If it's a flat XX% off then it's ok to stay up.
If it's a up to XX% off then something need to be mentioned, one way to do that is 'up to XX% off, blah is at XX.XX% off'.

For the post I referenced the op could have said 'blah is up to OO% off, blah2 is ZZ% off', or listed a specific item with post.

Knowing that I understand why some posts stay up and some dont

Videopro jacked up the price of QC35's from $419 to $447 overnight and taken away free shipping.

Learn to read: "Last updated on 17 May, 2017 07:56:27 AEST"

      • +2

Doesn't change the fact that they've been $419 for the majority of the listing time and their site still lists them at $419 with free shipping.
No need to be so rude.

        • -1

$367.50 is the lowest present price + a decent saving so I don't understand why you're complaining. Nonetheless, price jacking has been almost synonymous with eBay sales so you shouldn't be surprised either.

        • +3

@Baebs: It's still a good price. However, it doesn't change the fact that there is obvious price jacking in anticipation for a sale especially observing the difference in normal price to their own website.

        • +2

@stickyfingers: I checked a few of their listings and it looks like all of them had a revision on the 17th for an increase in price. seems like they did increase prices in anticipation of this.

        • -1

@stickyfingers: If you look at this from another perspective, slapping 20% off $419 + free shipping is a ridiculously generous discount + a historical low.

        • @Baebs: Absolutely. It's not me saying the price is bad but rather pointing out one example of numerous items being raised in price before the sale.

        • -1

@stickyfingers: Then I guess you should accept that price-jacking isn't as bad as it seems. It's just the store's way of offering a more reasonable saving. If sellers couldn't change prices before a sale, they probably wouldn't participate at all.

I'd totally be pissed at stores changing prices overnight though.

        • +3

@Baebs: Offer a smaller discount then and don't change your prices. Less appealing sure, but much less misleading.

        • @Baebs: Is it fine to accept that?

        • -1

@Gaggy: well they have 3 other options, suck it up and sell at a loss, don't participate and keep the 419 or have their own sale and hope buyers find their listing. Their last deal at this exact prices had 150+ upvotes, clearly most buyers are able to look past this to appreciate a good price.

        • @Baebs: So we should encourage this practice? $419 down to $367 is around 15% discount, so call it what it is. Don't lie and mislead the consumer.

        • @atolikan: If you really have an issue with these retailers, neg the deal or better yet, contact them instead. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Comply foam ear tips for your favourite earbuds such as the Xiaomi Hybrids (Comply 200 http://www.complyfoam.com/mi-hybrid/)

Can profess to their comfort and improves sound insulation (I like the sports tips best) and durability, I have been using for almost a year and they're still going strong.

    from $19 inc discount.

    http://tinyurl.com/m6fszeo

    • +2

An absolute rip-off for what you get. The profit margin must be huge.

      • I agree, but what better options are there?

        • I don't know about better but this is much cheaper.

        • sure, its not cheap, but the quality is there. As mentioned, combine it with $20 Xiaomi pistons and you have sound and comfort rivaling $100+ earphones

im not selling these, just giving my tick of approval.

I got a 3x variety pack last time, this let me upgrade 3 average pairs of budget earphones, which otherwise wouldve been sitting in a drawer because of how uncomfortable they were. So i feel im getting my value for money

        • @Mr Mrrtn:
Good point. I also changed the tips of my original pistons (which are rubbish) to some tri-flange tips and made them much better. I just don't think the genuine comply tips are worth the price premium compared to the comply knock-offs, although I'll welcome being corrected.

Not the cheapest its been on Ozbargain but decent price for the Breville Dual Boiler

    Dual boiler $999 with 20% off = $799.20
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Breville-BES920BSS-the-Dual-Boile…

    • Thanks. My BES900 has blown a seal somewhere and steam is now appearing in the dial along with a new loud hissing sound at standby temp. From what I've read Breville charges an arm and a leg for service so I wonder if I'm better off putting mine on eBay and buying another new one for $799?

      • Might be a better idea, Then with a few youtube tutorials you could repair the new one with parts from the old if anything ever goes wrong. Its what allot of us old school car guys do :D

Perfect timing, thanks OP. I was just about to buy from PetStock as they currently have 20% off site wide, lucky i checked OZB before hand. Combined with this ebay 20% and it works out to be a total of 36% off the full price plus bonus of free delivery when spending over $50.
Not worth posting as a deal but RedHen Free Range 20kg chicken feed for $17.91 is a fairly big saving. Cheapest i've ever seen it is $19.59 when they do 30% off website but still have to pick it up. Anyone interested i think they have 1 left http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/302240311399
Also noticed Tommy-Swiss and Outbaxcamping are price jacking as a few items i was looking at yesterday have risen around 15%

    • Just realised this myself. Normally PetStock is way overpriced but now the prices are actually decent. :-)

  • What is Home Nesting?

    • He a chef who runs a three Michelin starred restaurant in the UK called the Fat Duck.

He's quite famous for creating some really wacky dishes but has no formal culinary training.

  • Any good kitchen blender?

  • Cheers OP. Just grabbed some dog food from luckypetsupplies.

  • Bose SoundTouch 300 Sound Bar and Acoustimass Sub for $767.50 a piece delivered (plus 1.3% CashRewards) - normally $999 each and you can pick them up in Myer a couple of times per year for $799. I love the Sound Bar, been waiting for another deal to grab the sub and just picked one up!

  • Any deals on internal hard drives?

  • honestly not feeling it anymore. There once was a time when these deals actually meant something.

I'm in the process of building a PC for my son, and it's just as cheap going with a brick and mortar store (mwave/msy/ijk etc) as it is to buy from futu etc (give or take $10-20) but ebay has the added bonus of headaches for returns/warranty etc.

we need a site wide one where these guys don't have a reason to up their prices.
