  • So whats the Bargain?
    How much are they usually?

    • +2

I clicked through and they list them all as $200 off RRP. E.g. 49" is RRP $1399 down to $1199.

OP might want to amend the title?

    • who is bringing into country …. what is the warranty ….. xioami don't have an authorised australian presence.

Is it some kind of boat people organisation?

  • +3

Been keen on this for a while now but a bit nervous on pulling the trigger without seeing one in the flesh.

  • +2

Do you like Mi? How are you MI fans? I'm fine thank you! Are you OK?

  • what size is it?

    • +1

      49"

The sites has other sizes available but price increases

      • Cheers mate.
And thanks for updating the title OP

Still waiting for my robot vac!!I am abit nervous to order something else from Roboguy. Paypal will cover if the unthinkable happen, but I don't want to have to wait weeks to see my money back into the bank account

    • Yeh, hate waiting on that 10 day to expire for refunds when it's an obvious scam and the seller not responding + an additional few days for it to get into your bank account.

I doubt the roboguy is a scam but the turnaround time for a local purchase is just too long (up to 30 days) but it'll most likely be 2-3 weeks.

    • +2

They are drop shippers so patience is required

      It's piss.

  • Dam if i didn't have my 4k Panasonic would of pulled the trigger depending on reviews looks pretty nice and sharp on some youtube videos nice and slim wonder how the picture is

Price on RoboGuy and rough RRP in China
    49" $1199 ~$700
    55" $1499 ~$800
    65" $2099 ~$2000

Doubt they will sell 65" for $2099 - margin is too low. If you are buying 49" and 55", just get some freight-forwarding service and probably you can save a lot.

    • I think margin on high model could be much higher. the RRP is much higher than their cost.

    • Geez, if they could sell me the 55" for AUD$1100 in Australia i'd buy it!

    In Xiaomi we trust.

    • what about RoboGuy?

      • In RoboGuy we untrust

  • As some stated with the mi phones does it come with adware after updating :)

    • +5

That's actually proven to be a bit of bullshit scaremongering and misinformation.
The majority of the possible adware on phones was actually on Samsung devices, and was done by distributors rather than from the manufacturers themselves… but you only hear those comments on Xiaomi deals, and never on a shiney new S8 deal.

      https://betanews.com/2017/03/11/samsung-lg-xiaomi-android-sm…

  • "AI and voice control" - I assume that is Google TV with Google Assistant.
    Australia not supported yet.

I wish Xiaomi would just fix a few problems with the Mi Box 3 first, like dynamic refresh rate. That might give people a bit more confidence.

You want "modular"? Don't buy a TV with embedded smarts or surround sound.

    • The Xiaomi Mi TV 4 AI is powered by their own system called PatchWall.

      • Does PatchWall require internet connection?

      • Hmm so no Android TV? Dang I would have thought they'd have pure Android TV built into them given they have it on the Mi Box.

        • I think they only include Android TV on the international versions of the Mibox. Think providing android TV pre-installed might run afoul of some chinese censorship regulations.

  • +1

As much as I love Xiaomi stuff, warranty will be too much of an issue for something this big…

    • +1

yeah $200 phone you would bin … $1500 tv is a bit of an investment so you would want local warranty that comes to your home to fix especially if you have thrown the box.

  • Still waiting for the fallout on Roboguy. So many deals on here and potentially a lot of sales, yet nobody would have ever successfully purchased and received their products yet. Not to mention the "Australian warranty".

  • +2

"Imagine a suspended display glass - no frames, no stand" … comes with a stand
"4.98mm thick at its thinnest part" …. from 4.98mm thick

    • +2

"Imagine a suspended display glass - no frames, no stand" … comes with a stand

I guess that's why they say "imagine" instead of stating it as a fact :P

    • The stand is an option. You can hang it on your wall. But not everyone has the knowhow to do that.

  • +2

So Roboguy is just a forwarder for Xiaomi products?

    • +2

I think he struggles with the actual forward part as people are yet to receive an actual product from him buy yes, essentially a forwarder

  • MI's products are great, but service is very very bad. They don't care about service, because they still can sell a lot.

    • +3

Anything to back that up or are we just throwing out baseless comments?

They started off selling only software and "service" (I'm assuming you mean "support", right?) was their specialty until they branched out into physical products like phones etc.

Personally, I think their "service" is one of their strong points.
Every device I have from them is constantly getting software or firmware updates, so they don't just sell you something and then disappear.

For example, I've got their vacuum cleaner.
It started off fully in Chinese, which wasn't a major issue as there are translations online, but now it's got a fully English app and also English voice too - they even added an ability to actually drive the vacuum cleaner yourself via your phone…. completely unnecessary, but they did it… because they could.

      • Yes, I bought a lot different products, most of them are great, but the router, phone and speaker has issue, the router freeze more than 10 times a day, they said the router is fine after test. I never has issue with other brand. also the speaker, they said I break it. My Mi phone has white hot spot on screen, 3mm wide, they told me 1 spot is not enough for fix, at least three.

      • I mean customer service.

      • I like their products a lot, cheap and great, but not the customer service.

        • Where did you buy them from?
Surely you'd be dealing with the company you bought them from, rather than from Xiaomi direct?

For example, most of the items I've bought were from Gearbest or Banggood, so they are the people I'd contact for support.

Also, sounds like your Mi phone issue was lost in translation.
There's T&C's regarding dead pixels, and 1 is probably deemed acceptable, but having a large white spot on your screen isn't the same as a dead pixel.

So I would have persisted until you got sorted, provided you were within warranty still.

        • @Deviner: Yes, deal with other retailer will be much easier, as they will contact Mi for support, but if you contact Mi yourself, will be whole different story, very hard, now, I just keep my defective phone, a spot doesn't bother me much, just not happy about their support.

        • @alex27: Yeah I know what you mean, but you have to keep in mind that Australia is not a supported country - so I'm surprised they're even talking to you at all.
I think the only supported countries are the likes of China, Singapore, India etc.

So I would expect to deal with maybe someone like Gearbest or Banggood, and then let them deal with Xiaomi in China, for warranty issues.

      • Just look at the Mi Box, has barely been patched since release and there are plenty of bugs to fix with that thing. Shame.

  • That is one beautiful tv <3

Technical info about the display (65") that I could find if anyone is interested. Curious to see an in depth Rtings-like review when these ship. http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/a3ecbef

Their website looks dodgy and you look up there business address is located in the middle of nowhere next to a creek. Maybe they are just drop shippers

Time will tell with the Xiaomi vacs Im sure op is legit

  • great price. just wondering

are you force to watch bootup ad?
can you use the built in app to watch any movies/shows?

    • You should not be forced to watch any bootup ad, and yes the TV can play movies and shows like other smart TVs.

      • what is patchwall and voice control? can you use the features in Australia?

  • Read some user reviews on taobao reporting sharp edges of the TV frame can cut into your skin if not careful. :(

    • +9

      bleeding edge technology.

      • +1

The picture is very sharp. Razor thin bezel.

  • Does anyone know if you can change the language to English? Also is tuner capable of getting Aus Channels?

Edit: One more thing is the playstore installed on this?

  • +1

Good HDR? Or just "supports HDR"

  • Love the design and modular approach. Hopefully it works well and other tv brands copies the design. Could be any number of flaws I'm not considering though.

    • +1

I was initially excited about the modular approach considering tv and sound tech can last much longer than the software - 10+ years vs the 2-3 years before newer android versions are no longer supported on the hardware and apps no longer support the aging version of android.

The fatal flaw in this seems to be the proprietary connector between the display and sound bar (and no mention of other standard ports on the display), a second issues is the fact that the android module is still integrated into the soundbar (although once the android hardware becomes obsolescent in 2-3 years you could still attach a android box).

I think its a big fail that they specifically identified this mismatched obsolescence issue in the launch video, however they have actually created a less modular system where the tv can only work with the bundled sound system due to the proprietary connector that will not likely be supporting in the future. I don't understand why this isn't a simply a standardized matched display connector such as 4k capable HDMI. if the sound system busts in 2 years the display will likely also become landfill and once the smart tv hardware becomes obsolecent you would want to plug in a separate tv box as you would on any other smart tv.

  • Does it have HDR?

    • Yes the Mi TV 4 has HDR

  • What's different about these TVs over any other? Can you give me the elevator pitch?

    • +2

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UwXHMTr4LM

      They actually look pretty cool.

    • +1

The Xiaomi Mi TV 4 is a fantastic TV. It is a great combination between style and performance. The greatest part about this TV is that it comes with a full Dolby Atmos Surround Sound System which would cost at least $1000 by itself. Dolby Atmos allows you to get fully immersed into whatever you watch. It completely surrounds you with sound even from above. You can see how the Dolby Atmos system works here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1MqVKkYPrk As this TV is modular it allows you to better hide all of the cables going to the TV and thus enhance the appearance of your Entertainment system. Also with an almost borderless display, you can enjoy a much better, unrestricted viewing experience. You will struggle to find a TV like this for its price from any competiting brand.

      • This video shows how Dolby System works: https://youtu.be/apmWHNmjp3M

      • You sound like you copy and pasted that from somewhere but ok I'll accept that.

I still have a problem buying a grey import for something this huge though. How will warranty work? Will they send a techie over?

        • Your questions are hard and RoboGuy would never answer and thus explains how your warranty would work.
          You are on your own.

  • Hm, all those static images look nice.
So, how does it handle motion, blacks, room lighting and external sound systems? Very thin makes back-lighting difficult, it could have issues with consistency if its LED backlit (I don't think they could do amoled for this price).

Looks cool, I can imagine getting one if the price comes down and the reviews are good.

    • Great question. Need the guys over at Rtings.com to do a review

  • +1

I can't figure out if this includes the subwoofer and wireless surround speakers. If it does, it would be pretty amazing.

    • +2

The Xiaomi Mi TV 4 comes with the subwoofer and wireless Satelite speakers. So you are getting a complete Dolby Atmos Surround Sound System included in the price.
