Flybuys - Collect 8 Points Per Litre or 4¢ Per Litre Discount with Coles Fuel Voucher @ Coles Express

60

Check your inbox for a Flybuys email because the 8 points per litre promotion is on again. This time you need to log into your Flybuys account online, go to the Settings, and move a toggle to enable the offer. You still need to earn and then surrender a 4¢/litre fuel docket from Coles when purchasing fuel at Coles Express.

It suggests this may be more permanent than the last promotion, I certainly couldn't see an expiry in the email I received. I'm also unsure if it's targeted. [Apparently someone thinks it is targeted as it was added to the title.] Personally, I think 8 points per litre is better value than the discount.

Terms and Conditions

Once a member has selected to receive either 4c/l or 8 flybuys points per litre via the toggle, it will take up to 5 minutes for the option to take effect. The option chosen (either 4c/l or 8 flybuys points per litre) by the member will impact all associated card holders on that account.

The 4c/litre or 8 flybuys points per litre options can be redeemed provided a 4c/l docket and flybuys card are presented each time a member shops at Shell Coles Express. Excludes Fleet Card, Shell Card, Motorcharge and Motorpass purchases. Offer also excludes Coles Online 4c fuel discount voucher and is not available with any other fuel discount offers.

Why do you think 8 flyby points is better than 4cents / litre? Personally I prefer the 4c/litre.
2000 flyby points translate to $10.
Therefore, in terms of monetary value, it is the same as 4 cents /litre. So I would prefer cash saving in hand than having to redeem flyby points at Coles

    • Yes, you're correct that it translates into exactly the same monetary value. I just feel that with the way I collect and use the Flybuys dollars the extra points deal suits me better. I'm actually glad they've done it this way so that people who think the same way as you can choose the alternative if they prefer.

Since the monetary value is the same for both options. 4c/litre 'now' is always better than 8points/litre to be redeemed at a later date. Basic economics, this shouldn't even need to be considered a deal. Flybuys just appears to be capitalising on people's poor economics sense. However, some people wishing to accumulate points for bigger Flybuy (double value) redemptions etc., at the expense of a slight loss in their point's monetary value.

    • It is an option for people who want to collect more Velocity points rather than Flybuys points.

It is not targeted offer.Everyone can change the Coles Express docket redemption setting in their Flybuys accouts now.

Neutral either way really with this offer but the real issue is that Coles Express are just too expensive, and consistently so in my area.

The past few weeks I've had two email offers of a 10c discount per L from Coles but throughout that period all the other local stations were >10c cheaper. I can't remember the last time I filled up at Coles.

Coles express is overpriced by at least 5cents for recent months. go for 4cents docket with caltex woolies!

    • Incidentally, Woolies in my area is dearer than Coles for most things. 5% Egift card makes it almost competitive… agree that Coles Express being somewhat overpriced than Caltex/Woolworths, but I do end up with leftover Coles vouchers anyway…

  • Coles Express has lost a lot in sales compared to previous results. No wonder when their pricing is so much higher than the competition.
I wonder what their strategy is?
