Not a fan of Samsung when it comes to washing machines. I'd rather go LG or Bosch.

Hopefully they rectified the fire hazard

Miele followed by Bosch are the most reliable brands with LG the next but there is a reasonable gap between LG and Bosch.

Genuinely curious: do you have any evidence to substantiate your claims?

Choice conduct yearly reliability surveys of their member base.

      • Plenty of dud reviews on some Mieles, they are good and know how to market their products but also overhyped.

They have the highest satisfaction of any brand. They have the highest brand loyalty of any brand. They have the lowest repairs of any brand. And this has been consistent since choice has been doing the reliability surveys.

The same with consumer surveys in Europe and actual service data. They must be doing something right to keep this up year after year.

Some people will always be unhappy and some people will have problems but Miele area built to a standard not a price.

We have a Miele dishwasher that is in regular use and is over 20 years old. Aside from a solenoid that failed on the leak proof hose due to water quality it has never had a problem or had a part replaced and it still looks like new.

@Maverick-au: my Miele washer died in 4 years, so….

  • Good price for this size Washer. I like the Samsung 'add wash' function, it fixes the only real fault that a front-loader has (adding clothes after the cycle has begun).

    • -2

Any decent front loader has this function.

      • +1

@Scab, almost all front loaders don't have this function.

        • I said "any decent" one; in this price range every one I've seen has a pause function.

  • The JB Free delivery online is much better than shopping in store, the in store delivery is about $40 when I wanted to buy a Fridge, then went online and got it cheaper with a free delivery too

Samsung washing machines (and phones) catch on fire - you're right about this being a 'hot deal'…

  • +1

I've got an earlier Samsung and it's been going ok, but I don't really stress it washing maybe a load a week on average. Mine only has a cold water connection - it heats the water itself. In retrospect I'd prefer one with hot too so you can use solar if you have it.

Details about the ones that can catch fire (some top loaders)

I knew someone that had a very expensive Miele (around 2k I think). Someone ran it with a golf tee inside and it cracked the drum. The part couldn't be replaced so they had to chuck the whole machine!

Not only can solar water be too hot and damage the machine the water will be cold when filling the machine the first time unless you have a recirculation system. Heating the water in the machine is much more efficent.

I find that very hard to believe and Miele keep parts for even their twenty year old models at reasonable prices. Even if it did occur it was a one off, there is a reason why Miele is constantly on top of customer satisfaction and reliability surveys.

      • Depends how close the HWS service is to the washing machine. Damage the machine - I don't think so. They heat up to 90 degrees and the HWS outlet can be limited to a temp, but anyway that;'s why they have hot & cold connections!

It did happen. It was certainly one of the top end Euro brands - fairly sure she said Meile. Wasn't Seimens or Asko. Actually not sure if it was the golf tee that did the damage or the idiot trying to force the door open to get it out (it was an AirBNB and I think she said the guest was a bit drunk). Regardless, it was a vital part.

The temperature entering the machine shouldn't exceed 60 degrees. Many solar hot water systems without a tempering valve exceed 90 degrees which is harmful to the machine and the clothes. It's as efficent to heat water in the machine as it is to use solar or a heat pump.

          From choice…..

Tips for using solar-heated water in washing machines

"Many stains are set by hot water, so a cold fill and slow heat up to optimum wash temperatures helps the stain removal process. But if a dual connection washer is designed well, it should fill with cold first then add the hot water, so check for this feature if you're in the market for a new machine.
Hot water entering the machine must be no hotter than 60°C, so a tempering valve may be needed for solar hot water heaters if there isn't a temperature controller already fitted.
Using hot water for rinsing can cause more creasing, so it's not generally recommended."

Ok so it may or may not have been a Miele and a drunk may or may not have been playing golf in the machine.

  • Catch on fire much?

Galaxy washing machine. It's rated 8.5 kg, but you can only fit 4.5kg due to pre-installed laundry that can't be removed.

But seriously, anyone considering buying Samsung appliances should google to get a picture of the support they provide if things go wrong.
