For that price, you're better off getting a Convoy S2, although you'll need 18650's

    • This bargain says it's expired, but they're still $9.99 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/304479 decent light for the price.

      • Cheap as! I buy from convoy direct though :)

Do you need a special charger for 18650 batteries or could I use a normal AA battery charger?

      • 18650's are larger than AA's in size, so they won't fit unless you have a cool all purpose battery charger (nitecore i4 for example)

Unless you buy quality 18650s, chargers, and care for them properly youre introducing risk to your homelife. Recent fires on planes, phones , Galaxy Notes and laptops etc, all lithium batteries. I have over 30 lithium powered torches, countless batteries of various sizes and chargers as its a hobby. Its fine, mostly but there is risk, and they are less forgiving. There is a reason the type of light isnt freely available from KMart or Big W.

This Aldi unit is much simpler. If you want better quality, with simplicity of care, look for a Sunwayman D40A if you dont mind spending, or a Nitecore MT2A for less. Fill it with Ikea Ladda rechargeables ($9 for 4) as they are Eneloop Pros in Ikea clothing.

        • Thanks for the info Tuba. Will keep an eye out for bargains with those torches.

Who would pay $15 on Ozbargain for a mere 160Lm torch? We get deals for torches with 800Lm (OK so those are Chinese lumens) for the same price…

While I can't comment on the Aldi torch I do have a Convoy and for the size it's brilliant, highly recommend it.
