This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

Booking.com are running a promo where you can get $40 off a $80 hotel spend.
It seems that the $40 is credited back to your payment card after you complete your stay.
Not sure if the link contains any referrals or not, copied it from the deal posted somewhere else. Basically, when you click "Go to deal" and are logged in to your booking.com account there's a promo message at the bottom saying:
"Book now and get US$40 back!
All you have to do is book and you'll get US$40 back after your stay! Minimum booking cost US$80."

Thanks, added this to the main post

  • Sounds good - need to book somewhere, may as well do it now.

  • Only for selected accomodation?

  • So much trouble. . Why nit guve the discount straight up… too much risk of not getting the credit imho.

  • I have already got bookings in place starting in the coming week.
Is there a way to apply this to my booking ?

  • +1

Two years ago there was an amazing cash back deal with cashrewards… $15 off each booking

I was just about to start my travels to Philippines, Malaysia etc. Considering the low prices there it made huge difference and I book everything through booking.com - even though agoda, hotels etc were cheaper.

It took 90 days after the stay to get credited.

Long story short - they changed the T&C with effective date "3 months ago" and I got just about $60 while paid significantly more in compare with using other sites :/

    • +2

      ouch.
Always go for cheapest price first before cash back.
      cash back is never guaranteed

  • Lots of boxes to check to get your refund, including leaving a great review for the property. Wtf.

    • "The Participant leaves or has left a (completed) guest review through the Booking.com website; and/or
The stay of the Participant as part of the Eligible Reservation is confirmed by the booked accommodation to Booking.com"

      Keyword: and/or

  • I found booking through the referral system here better for me. Just clicked a couple times until it showed $30 cashback. Although I was just booking a cheap hotel for the night if you are booking a more expensive hotel then this deal may be better. Note: minimum booking is $40 through referral system

    • +1

Yes, but there are other compliance requirements that people could forget. Leaving positive review, saving credit card details to their website. And others. Too many things could go wrong, but if it's the same price, go ahead and give it a go.

      • Yeah that's another reason why I chose the referral system over this deal too

    • +1

The referral system one seems extremely generous too. Is it for new account customers only ?

      • +1

I clicked on the referral system one a few times and got $20, $25, etc until found the $30 cashback! BRILLIANT!!

        • Yeah my $30 cashback came through a couple days ago. Too easy.

        • @jdogg: Were you a new or current customer with Booking.com ?

        • +1

          @Peck:
          Current customer

  • Sounds too good to be true.

  • So I decided to try it out the other day for a hotel in Singapore. Booked using the link above and an Australia credit card. Received this email a couple of days later:

Receiving your US$40 reward from Booking.com

We hope you have a great trip! After your stay, you will receive an email on receiving your US$40 reward from Booking.com. The reward is paid on your preferred credit card and sent to you shortly afterwards.

    • Thanks excalibur_18. Can you tell me.. did you pay in US or AUD

      • Since it was for a hotel in Singapore it actually charged me in SGD. So, from the looks of it, it doesn't matter what currency you pay in.

        • Thanks. I was concerned over this post due to all the conditions but as you did receive a confirmation email I'll take a punt for Bali in 2 weeks time. But I shall ensure I have a cancellation clause lest the rebate is not confirmed by booking.com

        • @binatang: The hotel confirmation email clearly stated it on mine.

  • what if u want multiple hotels .. can this be redeemed multiple times?

    • One claim per person during the promotion period, not more than 3 individual promotion claims per calendar year. Multiple email addresses combined with various credit cards MAY get around this. With booking.com another's credit card may be used by ticking the box 'I'm not staying here the room is for…..'

      • Is the referral and the $40 one counted as separate promotions?

        • I believe the referral code is not regarded as a promotion.

        • @binatang: I know, but I'm wondering for 1 account if I can use the $40 promotion AND referral separately? And I'm guessing I can only use 1 referral / account.

  • Is there any way to link/stack this with the current cashrewards 8.5% bonus?
Does anyone know whether or not the 'up to $30 off' with the referral system works for current Booking.com members?
And if so, could you refer yourself? ;)

    • I'm wondering same… if I refer say a family member is that fine?

  • Does this apply to bookings where you pay later when you arrive?

    • Yes. The $US40 is rebated to your credit card that you have registered with Booking.com.

  • Got a question I followed link, green bar with $40 cashback shows. I book and all is good. But then when I'm back to the main page I get the $40 book now cashback banner again. Does that mean I did not do it right? Or is it something that shows up all the time?

    • Read the email booking confirmation fully. Somewhere in it it should say "My reward. You’ll receive US$40 after you’ve completed your stay."

      • There is no mention of myreward or $40 in the confirmation email… in the booking process it did mention if I wanted to use the credit card for the reward and I ticked it.

Oh my reward page (i just created an account) I have a $20 pending with friend being "you".

        • I am not sure that I follow.
You had to have an account, and a registered credit card before making the booking for the Spend $US80 get rebate of $US40.

Separately there is the referral system link that you can get up to $A30 for a $A40 booking.
          'Referral: random (97)
Referrer and referee get AUD $15-$30 after minimum booking $40.'

If not happy with your booking you can probably cancel, but I don't know if you will be entitled to the rebate(s) again.

        • Here is what is shown in my rewards section:

          Friend Booking Status
You 10 Jul 2017 AUD 20 coming up! You'll get your reward after your stay is confirmed.

          I'm so confused lol.

        • @joeno: I just checked my account for the one that I am due for $US40 rebate. (Check out 4 May 2018)
It looks like they are also going to give me $A30 for referring myself !!- $30 is my referral bonus for referring people (See random link).
Because my booking.com account also says:-
"You 5 May 2018 AUD 30 coming up! You'll get your reward after your stay is confirmed."
Nowhere on my booking.com account does it say $US40, just on the email confirmation.

        • @Peck: I didn't get it on email confirmation either.

  • Friend Booking Status
You 10 Jul 2017 AUD 20 coming up! You'll get your reward after your stay is confirmed.
You Under review The status of this booking will be available soon.

I don't know what's going on… I'm not getting the $40 rebate. However each time i book a leg of my trip i'm getting $20 referral from myself?!

    • It sounds like it to me. However there is no guarantee that you will get all of the $20's. (see T&C.s)
If I were you I would only use booking.com, from now on, if they are the cheapest excluding rebate. If they are the cheapest, then I would click on the random referral link above until you get a $30 bonus one. It might work, however it is still under the 'refer a friend campaign. Also note that there is a 4% booking.com cashback at cashrewards if you go via them instead.

T & C's Booking.com will only recognize one Eligible Reservation per Participant per campaign to count for an Incentive Bonus. Participants may only receive Incentive Bonuses from a maximum of 3 different campaigns per year, including Refer-a-Friend campaigns.

      • Can i refer using a family members link? It would be $20x2.

For the CashRewards, guessing it does not stack.so essentially i have to decide whether to use CW or this promotion.

Some of the legs im booking is $500+ so CW will be the obvious winner.

        • I doubt it.
I am 99% sure that you can beat Booking.com prices anyway.
Hotels.com with cashrewards and 1 free night per 10 works out at about 12% rebate.
Cheaptickets with their 16% off and 1.25% Ebates Cash Back on Prepaid Hotels. (search Ozb 'Cheaptickets' for latest code)
Agoda has codes (search on OZB) and 5.6% cashrewards cashback.
Orbitz sometimes has a 15% off promo code and 2.5% rebate through Ebates.

Note cashbacks might not be payable if using a code.

If new to ebates use the random referral link to help your mates :)

        • @Peck:

Thanks. Which one would be the cheapest now? Agoda or hotels or booking? Or should i search all 3.

I'm planning to book about 1 month in various European destinations.

        • @joeno: Always search far and wide. I always start with:-

          http://en.directrooms.com/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=…
          And
          https://www.hotelscombined.com.au/
          And
          Tripadvisor for reviews.

        • Thanks. Do you have accounts in each of the websites? Notice booking.com has additional discount for members. Also does agoda and hotels have referral system?

        • @joeno: I have joined them all. But you will get lots of BS emails re deals that are very rarely 'out of the ordinary'.
Not sure, but I don't think that agoda and hotels have a standard referral system, but I could be wrong. They may have one-off promos for referrals though.

  • +2

Never got an email in regards to the cash back when I booked. Have now completed my stay, submitted a review, then an email in regards to the cash back. I'll now up vote the OP. Thanks

  • i just did this, i need to pay at hotel.
do i need to use my credit card or i can pay cash?
they have surchage for card payments

  • +1

Is this deal over? Don't see it on home page

    • @faze I'd say finished. I've just clicked on 'go to deal' and no indication of it. Pity I've just been reimbursed as well for my booking …

  • Yeah looks like it's over. Although the $30 refer a friend is still active

  • How long it takes to receive the referral rebate?

    • Mine came through on the day after I checked out
