  • Can the i3 really handle h.265 decompression of 2160p content @60fps?

    • +1

I'd be surprised. by dual core g3258 @ 3.8 Ghz can't but maybe im doing it wrong.

    • Not the CPU itself, but the onboard graphics chip does the decoding.

      • The NUC should be able to do it comfortably, The last few series of Intel CPU's have full hardware support for decoding h.265.

  • Search around your local seller groups for these, apparently they're hard to sell. I bought one with a i7 7500u and 16gb sodimms (only a month old) for $450. I use it for a plex client.

    • That's a fair bit of cash for a Plex client isn't it ? I'm judging a ROKU4 for about $100 and it's outstanding, great UI as well

It is, I just want to make the most of my 4K TV and for when plex can get hardware decoding (not holding my breath on that though). This is connected to a 32TB synology nas, when I do things I do overkill haha.

    • Quite a deal.

There is no NUC with an i7-7500u

The i7 series 7 NUCs with an i7-7567U cost about $700 without memory or anything.

Unless you bought an MSI version of a NUC?

      • Bought the gigabyte BRIX model. GB-BKi7HA-7500- Unfortunately the one without thunderbolt though. The guy bought the ram separately and included it. I threw in a spare intel 120gb ssd that was lying around.

    • Local seller groups?

      • +1

Sorry, Facebook buy and sell groups - Should be a few ones for your local area if you aren't too remote.

  • I bought one of these to build a low end PC for someone - very well engineered. The CPU is fast enough for Facebook and stuff like that. $370's a good price too, less than what I paid. Just remember you need to buy a DDR4 SO-DIMM, and the drive can be an M2 SSD or regular 2.5" drive. It has wifi and bluetooth built in, brilliant (I believe it also has an infrared port built in, I didn't try to set it up).
