What's The Best Charger for Ni-MH/Eneloops

What's the "OzBargainer-approved" charger for AA Ni-MH/eneloop batteries? And where do I get it?

Comments

  • ikea, eneloop and ALDI chargers

  • The ikea one has been doing alright for me.

    • I have one of the IKEA chargers and it seems to exhibit some odd behaviour.

I leave batteries in it to fully charge. The charger indicates they are fully charged. However, if I take those batteries out and immediately put them back in again, they show as only partially (anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4) charged.

Is this a charger problem or is it expected ? It happens with basically all the rechareables I have, including IKEA's own and several different "flavours" of Eneloop.

  • Grab an XTAR VC4
Charges multiple size batteries of varying chemistries.

    I'm using a Nitecore D4.

    • I'll second that!

  • If you're not likely to charge other chemistries, it's hard to go past:

…from the CIA's favourite retailer. A simple perfectly adequate unapproved 'death trap' US-to-AU travel adapter off ebay will set you back $1. There is also a fast charger now available from Panasonic, but that will probably reduce the working life of your batteries.

If you want the option to charge off 12v DC sources (ie. small solar systems, your car…as well as regular AC adaptor at the wall) and if you want to charge other chemistries, then it's worth looking into the Nitecore D4 and Litokaala Li500. Both offer a DC jack and charge lots of different chemistries, but are a fair bit bulkier & heavier to pack when travelling. If yours doesn't come with a car adaptor, these can be sourced off ebay for peanuts.

  • I googled around a bit and a lot of people seem to recommend the Opus BT-C3100/3400, which is under $50 from China via eBay. Does anyone have anything bad to say about the Opus unit?
