      • Wasn't listed as targeted when I made the comment.

    • Even it is targeted, this deal is shareable.I bet OP will be happy to let you scan his flybuys card.

  • $20 purchase in store gives you 10c off

Most stuff at Coles Express can be found for half the price at Coles, so you're just wasting your money…

    • i got 15 boxes of tissue paper :)

        You must cry a lot…

        • +1

That is because he buys his fuel at Coles Express $$$

    • +1

      definitely not true.

      • It's true for the stuff i looked at last time I was there…

        • +1

Well "most" stuff is a sweeping generalisation. Perhaps "some" stuff Id agree with you.

        • +1

          @MelbBargainChaser77:

Well "most" stuff is a sweeping generalisation.

It was valid when I was there and looked at the lollies, chocolates and soft drinks. Most of them were twice the price.
I'm sure if I looked that at the chips and other snacks, I'd find the same thing.

Targeted, got Flybuys email activation for 4c

Even at the max 24c off still not worth it when Coles Express can cost more per litre than other servos as it was just over a week ago… Sometimes close to 30c more per litre.

Yeah my local shell is always the most expensive and its surrounded by 3 other servos all within 200m either direction.

When everything was 99c/L they were still $1.24. Seems to be anywhere from 10 to 25c more expensive there.

      • Same here, Shell always seems to be at least 10c more expensive than other places.

      • +1

I guess it just comes down to luck and the management running the store in your area.
I fuel up at a country town with 5 servos and Coles Express are always 3-5 cents cheaper than the others.

      • Just checked nearest servo prices in Brisbane with Motormouth app…

7-Eleven 109.9, next one is 141.9 (same prices on 7-Eleven app so can lock in lower price)
        Coles Express 115.9 (less 14+c/l FlyBuys discount = 101.9)
Caltex Star Mart 141.9 (less 4+c/l EDR discount = 137.9)

So by current listed prices, Coles Express is significantly cheapest after this discount in my area.

        • Coles express price of regular unleaded dropped 1c/l since last MotorMouth update. Other local servo prices are going up.

Bought at 90.9 after spending $20 (2x20 pack Quilton @$10 ea, against 36 pack $13 on special Coles - break even around 55L), with 24c/L discount - other neighbouring servos except 7-Eleven were 141.9 ;-)

    • I agree that Coles fuel always way more expensive than others. Even with 8c off normally.

However this couple days 91 costing
      ~1.3 everywhere.
*really hard to find 1.1X nearby like u.

This Coles deal seems a bit useful..

  • max. of 24c off :))))

    Is that a triple chin?

    • Quadruple lips.

  • +1

I found that the best things to spend the $20 is to buy 2 packs of Quilton…

    • Cheaper to just ask them for the toilet key and to pinch their paper.

  • Thanks for the prompt. Mine is 8c.

  • It is true. You may get 20c off. But Coles Express's patrol is 20c more expensive than 7/11 cross the road, that is also true. :-P

  • With the 7/11 app providing the cheapest local fuel price, I rarely fill up at Coles Express anymore. Coles need to get with the times and provide an app that stores your fuel vouchers or link it to your flybuys card (like Woolies does). Although, even with the 4c off vouchers they are still 10c more expensive a lot of the time.

    Let's do the maths:

Spent $20 in coles express: you prob lose $8 compare to that you buy the samething from supermarket
Put in 60L of fuel: you save 0.24x60=$14.4
Given shell is averagely 15c more expensive than other service stations: you lose 0.15x60=$9
Points earn on your flybuy card: 20 (from shopping at coles express) + 1.5x60 (from fuel) = 110 points which equals to $0.55

    So the total saving is: $14.4 - $8 - $9 + $0.55 = -$2.05

    So a LOSS.

    • Depends on your usage. I consistently buy 150L worth of fuel, so it works out well for me.

Based on my targeted offer of 10cpl = $15
      Shopper docket 4cpl = $6
      In store spend $20 = $15

Now this means my toilet paper is costing me $5 for 40 rolls.

This week Coles Express was about 3cpl dearer than the competing Caltex/BP. So with the combined offers. it works out for me. Next week, I'm using BP courtesy of Amex.

      • Yeah great deal for truckies but normal sedan/suv only have a 60-80L tank.

        • Jerry cans are what you need. Saves you having to pay for the mid week expensive fuel top up.

        • @t25:

sounds like a plan! any good deals on jerry-cans? :D

        • @bigeater: Not at the moment, check out SCA/Bunnings/BCF from time to time.

    • Just did the maths above - your figures don't stack up…

Coles Express was much cheaper at 114.9, except 7-Eleven 109.9. Other neighbouring servos & other 7-Eleven were 141.9 ;-)

Bought at 90.9, with 24c/L discount,
after spending $20: 2x20 pack Quilton @$10 ea, against same price in Coles or 36 pack $13 on special @Coles. So break even point for 10c/l discount is around 55L for product on sale.

      • The maths was based on previous comment where it stated that shell was normally 10-25c higher than other service stations.

        • Let's do the maths:

Your assumption for incorrectly calculating total savings ending up as a loss in this deal included…

Spent $20 in coles express: you prob lose $8 compare to that you buy the samething from supermarket

Shown to not be correct in my example. Price was same at Coles for same product. Buying $2 milk for example is still $2.

But Ozbargainers would buy cheaper - on special.
Let's do the maths: my toilet paper example still showed petrol discount was better deal if buying over 55L, based on current local Coles specials.

So the total saving is: $14.4 - $8 etc
          So a LOSS.

With this discount, was a nice saving for me over any cheaper servo for many km ;-)

Petrol price was substantially lower at Coles Expess than all other local servos except for 7-Eleven, before discounts applied for my area.

That's a real world example based on today's actual petrol & product prices, rather than just assumed to justify your argument that this deal would cost us money.

But everyone should take into account price difference of products & petrol between Coles Express & other suppliers & do their own calculations.

      • btw, from the comments above and below, most ppl think shell is way overpriced than other service station. I don't know where you got the figure 114.9 from.

        • I don't know where you got the figure 114.9 from.

My receipt! As I stated above, that was the Coles Express price for regular unleaded when I bought today. It was 1c cheaper than shown on MotorMouth app which was updated 6 hours before purchase.

All except 7-Eleven prices were 141.9, including independents like Freedom. Of course there may be 4c/l discounts at some of those other servos.

most ppl think shell is way overpriced than other service station.

People often say Coles Express is always dearer in these deals. I prefer up to date local data to what people believe. You can check with an app.

Just pointing out that wasn't the case for me. It depends on a number of factors like where that servo is in the price cycle, so saying Coles Express is always dearer is incorrect.

        • @Infidel:

Like you said, you need to check your area and see for yourself what the prices are like in your area. Sometimes Coles Express pricing is through the roof, other times they are the cheapest in town.

        • @t25:
Yes. Arrived back from Japan 2 weeks ago, needed fuel & saw cheap petrol prices. Drove past a few good prices & into a Coles Express for 4c/L discount. Sign was out of order, & bowser price seemed high. Glad I checked before I filled up: 126.9 against other servos at 109.9!! I drove off thinking f*#!ing Coles Express is a rip-off, until I saw much dearer prices ;-)

Lucky I didn't fill up last week.

Also paid with 4.5% discount Coles eGift Card today, not shown in my above pricing. I love discount on discounts.

But as with most purchases - if you want to save money, don't be close minded that certain places are always dearer. I thought that about Myers & DJs but bought at some great prices thanks to OzBargain. Get the best value (best quality of product you want for lowest price).

Unfortunately some people only see information that confirms their beliefs, failing to notice important contrary information.

  • No DEAL XXXX !!!! Just filled my car at costco for $1.13 yesterday. I didn't go back to Coles Express since they raised prices.

  • I have 2 Flybuys cards

One offers 6c per litre (i never use this card) the other offers 10c per litre (card is used 2-3 times per week but normally for purchases less than $50)

  • Shell are dear as hell u need a big discount to just come out even with other servos.LPG in my area is 82.9 at shell and I can buy elsewhere for 64.9 18c a liter is $14 on my tank more shame on you shell.

    • Coles Express are always the most expensive for lpg.
I thought they were doing it to discontinue lpg, but it has gone on for a long time now and they stll have the lpg bowsers. Not sure what the strategy is there. If there is one that is.
Cheapest lpg in my area is from Woolworths with 4c discount from groceries and 5% off egiftcards.

      • Caltex on Kingston rd slacks creek is 64.9 cheapest I have seen around Brisbane south.

        • 64.9 is the cheapest in the whole Brisbane I reckon! Do you get 4c discount and to use ewish cards?
69.9 at Woolworth Caltex in Enoggera.

  • No they dont accept at caltex, i gave wrong location its the caltex 10 Third Ave Cnr Browns Plains Rd, Marsden.
