PlayStation Plus 12 Month Subscription: 30% off - $48.95 (Save $21) @ JB Hi-Fi

960

I've been looking at previous posts by some individuals that have posted up that, JB HI-FI is having a sale on their PlayStation Plus subscriptions.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/311821
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/311638

I've walked into the Macarthur JB HI-FI and asked how much the 12 month subscription costs. He told me $70, but once he scanned it, it was $48.99 which is 30% off. Go to your local JB HI-FI store and try it out! I've saved $21.

The website still says $69.95, so this method will only work in store. Available online

BONUS:
Also, I've seen Call of Duty Infinte Warfare for $29

It seems that JB HI-FI is price matching with the PlayStation Store price. It's better to purchase from the store, as you don't need to fill up credit card details into your account.

Hope this post has helped some one out. This is also my first post, so if there is anything that I didn't add into to post or need to improve on, please provide some feedback. Cheers.

It seems that JB HI-FI is price matching with the PlayStation Store price. It's better to purchase from the store, as you don't need to fill up credit card details into your account.

Wut? Why are you so scared of having credit card details stored to your account

    • +21

Because Sony has stuffed up with customer personal info once.

      • +3

Just put it through paypal? Also you save a lot of paper/plastic/waste buying it online. Really it is better to buy online if you use the right tools. And the fact you don't need to go outside your house, therefore your risk of dying by accident is reduced, also saved the environment a little more by not driving etc.

      • I just delete any saved creditcard/paypal info after each purchase on principle wherever I shop out of habit. That way it doesn't matter if it's Sony or my computer that gets comprimised, there's no payment info to get abused/compromised.

That, and having to enter your details in every time makes impulse or accidental purchases less likely to happen as it's a more deliberate action.

        • Your CC details are still in database marked as "deleted". PayPal on the other hand works well for your method. I've been doing that too and I also used my CC details previously, so you're not alone mate. :)

    • +5

And so you're not tempted to do a chargeback via Paypal or your bank and get your account cancelled.

    • Not only having credit card details hacked, but also I've gotten my account hacked many times. Also, many people wouldn't own/ feel comfortable inputting their credit card details in their Sony PlayStation account.

      • Fair enough. Personally I am in the haveibeenpwned multiple times and of course in the psn leak like everyone else but I have different password for those that could have some payment details.

Would suggest using some password manager to help if it happens to you constantly.

    • Also, Sony like to auto renew you at full price from my experience

  • +3

Yeah they have Infinite warfare pricetagged as $59 still at my jb but it scanned at $29 yesterday. Also I price matched them to the harvey norman $20 infinite warfare deal because harvey norman was out and they just looked at the price and said okay.

    • -1

Damn, lucky. I remember paying $100 when it first came out, and now the game is completely dead.

      • Yeah I wouldn't pay any more than $20 for it. I had no local multi player games so I really got it to play when someone comes around. Also convinced a mate to grab a copy for $20. For a single player, multiplayer and zombie feature it isn't too bad.

    • Harvey norman has Infinite warfare for console for $20 and for PC $10

    • JB wouldnt price match for me because HN didnt have stock :-/ So I just brought the PC version off HN instead… AVG blocks it… So that needs to be disabled for any COD IW sessions… shrug

  • i recently just signed up through playstation. just wondering if i can get this from jbhifi and redeem it to extend another year of subscription?

    • Yes you can. You can stack up to 3 years worth of subs

      • how do you do that?

        • When you redeem a 2nd code (same way as the first), it should automatically stack.
If i remember right theres somewhere in your account settings/management which will tell you the date your PS+ expires - I'd check that for confirmation.

        • @dregs:

So i buy this instore and get a code? You can stack two on but the first code will automatically enrol you in a ps+ membership from today if your not activated?

If you had half a yr left would activating this annual membership just stack on so you have 18 months? Then you just stack two more on but you'd not be able to go over 3 yrs left?

Which is my next question : once you buy this from jb how long can you keep the purchase before redeeming.?

        • +1

          @SaberX:

Yeah if you had say 3 months left, and redeemed a ps+ code, your expiry date will increase to 1yr 3months.

I've done this on my USA account before, buying codes from Amazon. (I had ps+ and added two new codes i bought on sale)

Sorry mate, i cant help with the 3 year limit (didnt realize there was one until now). Same with an expiry date for the code - ive only ever redeemed them as soon as buying. Hopefully someone else can say - I'm interested to know also.

        • @SaberX: You should have 1 year from the purchase date to redeem it.

        • @clarkey:

thanks clarkey. does that apply to the hard psn plus cards (wallet credit) only?

I had that when i bought the pre made plastic cards for psplus networks in dick smith - 1 year to use it.

However, eb games sold me a voucher code (like mobile phone credit) and insisted that there was no 'expirey' time to use the voucher. Only that once i used it it would stack - even then some of the workers said it stacked max 3 years, others said none.

I'll go with the general ozb feel that it stacks only 3 years to be safe haha. But if indeed even printed voucher codes for the annual ps+ membership last only 1 yr, then i won't go ahead and hoard like 5 or 6 lol and be risk with expired ones. Maybe just 3 to play it safe.

        • @SaberX: I'm not sure, I'm just going by what it said on the JB Hifi page for the 12 month codes, which - considering the codes are emailed out - might be basically the same thing as EB printing them for you. According to this though (point #5), you should have been told about any expiry when you bought it. Is it printed on the voucher anywhere?

I still wouldn't get more than 3 years either just based on what people have said. I'm sure there'll be a similar deal for PS+ or PSN store credit before your subscription runs out.

        • @clarkey:

There seems to be a 12 month fineprint on the instructions. Vouchers in my bag so will double check later. Abit poor form from eb games. The guys were so enthusiastic and pumped about it that it was almost first hand experience. Clearly they have no idea. I did ask and double asked if they expired. Shocking.

        • @SaberX:

For what its worth, its now the same price on sale on the PSN store.

My expiry date was July 1st this year. I bought 4 years and now the expiry date July 1st 2021, and the option is still there to buy another year.

The expiry date is listed on the page where you buy it.

Still waiting for that JB Hifi code, if I don't get it then I'll get this.

    Thanks OP.

  • Can this sub be used in conjunction with the free star wars battlefront offer? Add bonus offer sub to cart then pay by one of these cards possibly?

    RE: Online Order # JB54499832452753-0

We are sorry for the delays in the processing of your order.

Unfortunately, there has been a pricing issue in our system that has prevented your order from being completed. The 12 month PS4 Subscription was incorrectly advertised at $34.27 and so as a result all orders have been automatically rejected.

As a gesture of goodwill, we will be emailing you a gift card to the value of $14.70 (xxx) which can be used to place a new order for the subscription at the same price of $34.27 if you wish to do so. Please note that this subscription is only on sale until 16/06/2017 so if you would like to purchase this item at the same price, it will need to be done before this date.

You will be receiving an automated email from our Verification system advising you that that your order has been cancelled due to our terms and conditions, please ignore this.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Please note that if you have placed multiple orders you will only be entitled to the one gift card valued at $14.70.

    Kind Regards,

    • I got that email too :) but no gift card yet :( when did u get the gift card?

      • The gift card reference number is in the email. Do a search for "GC" in the email and you'll see it. Cheers.

      • Got that email too

        • +1

I just received another email with a gift voucher from JB it has the gift card as a PDF attachment

        • +3

@bluechan: i had purchased 1 subscription this morning which obviously got cancelled like everyone else. But got 2 gift cards $14.70 each instead

        • @Aemit:

I received 2 as well (I don't feel as guilty now), though I was quick to rush into my local store to spend them… bought the 12 months PS+ and added it onto my existing membership. Yay!

        • @Graffin: around $20 for 1 yr ps plus….yay

      • just got it.

    • I got the gift card, says out of stick until 10/6/2017 inline ….. so I guess try sat morning and use the gift card for the $48 price to get it down to $34 ……………..
or can I go into store and use the gift card to get the ps plus eg real ps plus card less gift card = $34 ?

Never know what their online thing will do as the demand kicks in.

  • For the ps plus noobs here - i bought my $70 credit and loaded it to my ps wallet a year back (i bought it a year before that and had to upload before it expired).

Now it's credit in the wallet and i haven't subscribed to the ps plus - but probably will soon as i need online gameplay for overwatch on ps4.

Just curious - people are saying this stacks up to 3 years? Is buying this 1 year buying the actual subscription prepaid, versus i assume if you buy credit you can stash it in your sony wallet and use it anytime right (assuming it doesn't expire)? Or is there a max of 3 notional ps plus annual memberships ($210) that you can leave on your wallet? Just abit confused. I'm assuming it's buying the actual annual membership not monetary value which only allows a max of 3. Still, this is pretty cheap, might buy some.

Given i have $70 in the wallet I assume I could throw in 3 x annual memberships at $48.95?

    • As far as i know, its completely separate to your wallet credit. The code should be just for membership (similar to when you get a DLC in a disc game). Add the codes one after the other, and your expiry date for ps+ will increase 1 year. I bought a few ps+ codes from amazon a couple of years ago and stacked them on my USA account, and thats how it worked with those.

Im unsure what happens if you go over 3 years though, if you already have time left on ps+?

      • Thanks. The guys at ebgames said they stack too but some reckoned their was no limit, some didn't know what happened to beyond 3 years if you overstacked.

They did mention you don't have to load the receipt onto your account though. So you could just leave receipts unused, they mentioned codes don't expire? Albeit your paper may fade so backup your receipt redemption code? Not sure if this is true - don't want to find out the hard way though haha.

I'll probably leave my $70 PSN wallet credit then (as you could buy games with it) and just load these discounted vouchers.

I moved to PC recently. PS+ sucks ass. Shit C grade games you'll never play.

    • this month they give out life is strange and killing floor 2… not really c grade games

    • Grats.

    • Yeh its been bad for a while now.
Especially for Vita games, dont think theres been a single good game for the last 12 months

    • +3

Is 83 your birth date? 34 and engaging in console flame wars?

    • Each to their own i guess - i personally more than make the cost back just on the extra sales discounts throughtout the year, so the free games, cloud saves, online multiplayer, auto updates, effectively don't cost me anything.

  • Can someone clarify - the free games that you get from psn+, do you get to keep them even when the sub elapses?
Or do you need a sub to be able to play the games previously given away?

I also accidentally created a US account to begin with and all my save files are on that account.
If I start PSN+ sub, can i play aussie servers with my US account or am I better off creating a new aussie account?

    • I've only had Aust PS+ subscriptiin, so consider my comments in that context.

If your sub elaspses, you don't lose the games. You regain access to them when you renew your subscription.

I'm not sure about save games or crossing from US to Aust subscription though.

      • That's what I'm interested in, I have a heap of free games from my Canadian ps plus which has now lapsed. I'm guessing if I go to au ps plus I lose access to these games?

        • Correct, you will no longer be able to access them. I know because I had some games I acquired through a US PSN account and I couldn't play them with an AU PS+ activated account.

        • @dqtl74: thanks mate. I ended up getting the au subscription anyway, I couldn't pass it up for $20 after the gift card debacle

        • -1

@tassieeagle: What dqtl74 said is incorrect.
You WILL be able to access them so you are not restricted to constantly having to resub your Canadian PSN.
I've done this with an Irish PSN account I brought with me without any dramas.

Just google it, that question has been answered online quite a lot.

I've several accounts with games bought in euros, dollars, pounds etc etc… I can play all those games on any user profile once I've an active subscription with PSN.

        • @Deviner: aH thanks for that. I'll find out one way or another if/when I get the ps plus au code

        • -1

          @tassieeagle: No worries.
Here's an example of that question: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/3h0du7/can_you_have_ac…

        • +1

@Deviner: thank you very much mate, appreciate the info

        • @Deviner:
I'm pretty sure this isn't the case with PS+ Instant Game Collection (IGC) aka the free games. Yes, all purchased games from any account are still available, but I could've sworn that a lapsed PS+ account makes the IGC's of that region inactive.

I'd like to clarify that a PSN account and a PS+ subscription are complementary but two different things.

I can't test the deactivation of the IGC games at the moment as I've only ever had PS+ in one account and that still has an active sub.

I have multiple PSN accounts as well and I have purchased from different regional stores multiple times. And I can play all these games from whichever account I choose. This works perfectly. And this is also what is referenced on that reddit link you posted.

        • @tebbybabes: I'll let you know later when I set it up

        • @tassieeagle:
          Thanks, mate. Good luck!

        • @tebbybabes: you are indeed correct unfortunately. I just set up my new au account with ps plus and unfortunately I cannot access any of the free games I previously downloaded on my Canadian account. But for $20 for a year of multiplayer and new free games I couldn't say no

        • I've got free games from other regions that are working on each of my profiles on my PS4 right now?
I'm not sure what the difference is …
Maybe the games I've got were free in multiple regions at the time?

But you are right with regards the reddit link, which was specifically referring to standard digital games, as opposed to IGC's tied into PSN.

Sorry tassieeagle, hope I haven't led you too far astray!

        • @tassieeagle:
That's a shame. But you're right $20 is a pretty darn good deal!

        • @Deviner:
I wish that would work as well! Sometimes the PS+ subscription or IGC available on some regions are really good.

And you're right, there is some overlap between regions with regards to IGC.

        • @Deviner: all good mate I wasn't going to let the $20 deal pass me by. I played most of the free ones I wanted to anyway cept for day of the tentacle but I picked up horizon in the sale now do that is taking up all my free time now anyway :D

    • stick with that US Account, your servers does not depend on your account most of the time. Create an aussie account if you want to buy this PS+ sub and set that account as primary and you are all good.

      • +1

        Thanks yummycoot!

        • +1

I've a US, UK, IE and AU account, therefore I've each of those as a User profile on my PS4.
I look online and just grab whatever PSN+ cards are cheaper when the time comes and apply them to the appropriate account.

Once you have an active PSN sub on one of the user profiles on your PS4, it allows the 'inactive' accounts access to PSN content, whether that is the monthly games or just playing multiplayer.

You don't need to make any primary or anything like that - just needs to be active and one of the user profiles on your PS4.

You keep all games and saved content from PSN once one of your accounts is active.
It's also got no impact on servers (ie. if you are logged into a US account from inside Australia, you are not going to be connected to the US) as it will connect to your closest server/peers.

        • @Deviner:

Just curious but why have non aus psn accounts (so many ) in the first place? What are the reasons? Im assuming ive always had just the aus account as i turned on here and registered then?

        • +1

@SaberX: I had an Irish one from home, then I got an AU one when I came here.
Then I just happened to get really good deals on both US and UK subscriptions since then.

It's just 4 user profiles on your Playstation so it's no hassle, and it's handy if there's a sale in one of those countries and I'm looking to renew.

For example, I'd friends coming over and we thought we'd play a few games of Fifa… I didn't have it though.
So I went onto the PSN store in the US and grabbed it for $15 USD and was able to download/play it that evening - was handy because, at the time, the cheapest one was about $35-$40 AUD.

NOTE: For anyone reading, based off SaberX/tassieeagle comments - this may not be the case for the free PSN games attained from different regions and may be more aimed toward standard games you have bought physically/digitally.

        • @Deviner: You said that it doesn't matter which account has PS+ active, you have access to any PS+ games from other accounts too, right? Have you actually tested this? Because it's pretty much common knowledge at this point that you should lose access to PS+ games when your subscription expires, regardless of whether you have PS+ on a different account.

Edit: Oh, I just saw your NOTE from another comment. You will never lose access to games purchased for an actual dollar amount, and any account can play them on the primary console of the account that purchased them. So this has nothing to do with PS+.

        • @clarkey: As I wrote in the other comment of SaberX's, possibly the games I'm referring to were free in more than one region at the time and were therefore accessible to me.
tassieeagle has tested it on their end and their free PSN+ games from Canada were unavailable when tried from an Australian account with an active PSN+ sub on the same device.

But the likes of multiplayer access etc from PSN+ works fine for any profile on the PS4 provided one of them has an active PSN+ sub.

        • @Deviner: Right, all good then. Just wanted to clear that up. I can only go on what I've read about it as I can't test it out myself.

        • @SaberX:
I do it too. Different regions have different deals. Most of my purchases are from the US account - that was especially lucrative when the AUD was at parity. These days, the AU storefront can have pretty attractive deals. eg. DragonAge Inquisition GOTY for just Au$13.95 - I think that's even better than PC prices.

I don't know if this is the best site for it, but it's the one I've been using and it gives me a much quicker way to browse Playstation store prices in different regions compared to actually using the playstation store interface. psprices.com

  • +1

This should be the normal price…

  • Worked online for me. ta

    • Yeah, it's been updated online. Thanks for the feedback

  • Thanks, just grabbed one online!

  • Am I confused, or is this price with JB the regular sale price that Sony is having as well?

    • It seems everyone passes it on. Hence PS4 is selling $299 bundles for ps4 console, eb had them, and the website link from sony shows big w and sony and some other store that does the bundle. So it seems the same for digital membership - it's been passed through.

I heard some eb games staff talking about the $299 being stopped, i think they reached their quota or like didn't want to lose more margin or something?? Bit disappointing, but $299 for a ps4 is pretty darn cheap if you're living tight, for some entertainment!

      • I think the $299 deal was for Friday June 9th only, from all the retailers.

        • yes, only on that day of my comment (9th june).

      • Was that $299 for the PS4 slim or the old one?

  • +2

Holy cow….JB actually gave me 2x gift vouchers cards for cancelling original order…so came down to around $19. Very happy!

    • +1

Same here I spent 2 gift cards on Horizon Zero Dawn and only paid $9.60 for it down from $39. What a bargain.

  • eb games have it for sale at this discounted price - you can use amex there without transaction fees unlike jb hi fi. just for some minor amex points :D

  • +4

I feel so disgusting considering purchasing this after missing out on the pricing error this morning.

  • Getting a page not found error now and can't search for it anymore.

Oh well… going to have to spend the 2 x eCards I received from my cancelled order some other way …

    • just go in store and grab it from jb or eb games, just incase sony is canning it early due to unprecendented demand. don't think the ps plus memberships have been on sale before.

  • FYI, the $48.95 via PS Store is also stackable, so you can purchase more than once.
Someone was saying in one of the other threads that you probably can only buy it once via the PS Store.

    • the star wars deal one is not stackable.

  • +1

Au PS+ for this price or Indonesian PS+ for $24?

    • where are you getting $24 for Indonesia? I can only find $35 for that from offgamers. that's 12 months.

  • +2

Can buy it directly through PSN now for the same price:

    https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-au/reward_game/playstati…

  • It's back up for sale on the website now, they emailed out the code almost instantly.

  • FYI i ordered this last night received an email sayimg there are delays due to overload of orders and haven't received it yet.

  • Guys check PSN store. It is coming up same price for me on PSN store now.

Edit: seems i got beaten to it :)

  • I am tempted to pay for it at this price but I am not so sure of the benefits anymore. I did like the cloud backup for saves but found the monthly games to be a little disappointing. It's insane that Sony expects this kind of money just so we can play Overwatch or have P2P fights in dark souls.

    • Frustrating thing is i bought second hand overwatch and cant' load it for the first time without a ps plus membership? Isn't their a solo game option? I'd had thought so, but apparently need to have the multiplayer connected up to even play for the first time!
