  • I've always wanted something like this (love ASUS too…) but really have no need for it, though the 1050ti model announced at Computex may tempt me that bit more, though I'm sure it'd be twice the price of this easily….

    Warranty?

    • +6

From my personal experience, Asus Australia don't accept purchase from Amazon for warranty service. As my previous ux360ca had dead trackpad after two~three months. I had to sent the unit back to Amazon with restocking fee been charged (which is 20% about 100 USD) and Amazon refunded the return shipping (But they did not refund the shipping cost for the purchase) .

      • +4

I bought mine from Amazon and have had it reparied no problem by ASUS repair centres. They wouldn't courier it - I had to bring it in but otherwise no issues.

        • Thanks.

        • Would you mind tell us the model you have?

        • @wlqrichard: I've got the UX31A, bought in August 2012. Had it repaired once under warranty and once at my cost (two separate issues).

      • +3

I bought a ux360ca with 1 year international warranty from Amazon. Despite it clearly stating international warranty on Amazon, on the box and on the warranty card, Asus Australia would have nothing to do with it and offered no help. Amazon would accept it back but I would have to pay shipping. So if you buy this deal, please consider that you may not have warranty in Australia. Asus were also very unprofessional when asked about it, even after I provided photos of the box and warranty card upon their request.

    • +6

According to the Q&A on the Amazon page with answers from Asus, it's a one year international warranty, valid in all countries with Asus Service Centres, except those in South America and Latin America.

      • +3

I read that too and that's the reason I purchased my one from Amazon to save some money (well I clearly didn't save money in the end) . But sometimes things just doesn't work out the way they says. I googled it and found out people at whirlpool had this issue too.
        Quote from whirlpool:

Some US models are also Local Warranty only, mainly units sold by Best Buy, some by Amazon

      • +2

I believe that means you buy the laptop as you live in the USA. You go on a work trip/holiday overseas and something happens to your laptop you will then be covered for warranty internationally.

At least that's what it meant for my 4yr Acer.

Need to read the fine print

I bought this Asus from Amazon way back in 2011 and was able to utilise local warranty when the usb port blew.

I haven't read through all the posts on here, but I suggest confirm over Amazon chat what the situation is with claiming warranty.

Even if it didn't have local warranty I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Amazon US or UK. Their customer service is unparalleled.

If only my Coles credit card would include price protection for os purchases. My only dillema now when buying $100+ items from Amazon and the like.

  • I have an Asus Zenbook ux303la. The touch pad is shocking so probably don't get it if that's something important to you.

Also my laptop had a design floor where the hinge breaks every 1-2 years. I'm sure they fixed that in this iteration though :p

    Otherwise I love my Zenbook

  • Definitely a good price, but gives me the Macbook Air feels with those thick silver bezels..
Am looking for a good laptop for uni and also something with dedicated gpu to do some light gaming, think I will hold out for the 1050 model as mentioned above!

  • good price, good laptop.

  • +1

Beware, I have an Asus Zenbook ux303LB, my laptop hinge was loose after a year and broken after 18 months. Apparently they use cheap plastic for the laptop hinge.

Called the asus service centre, quoted me $300. Mentioned Australian consumer law and got it fixed for free. So in the end it isnt that bad.

    • Yes Asus warranty and customer service is very poor. Also quality gone down in lasrvfew years.

  • what's the difference between this and http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182600655782 ?

    • +1

      +$120 for 14" screen?

  • Integrated graphics, don't expect any gaming. Should be good for everything else

  • +1

this is a great ultrabook and i would highly recommend it at this price. Its light, thin and fast. The only thing that i find annoying is that the battery life could be longer.
I would consider it a steal at ~$940AUD delivered

    • I have got this exact ultrabook from the initial post. 9-11 hours on average use not long enough for you? If you are going to do video editing, you would be plugging the power plug in.

Absolutely loving it, fast start up with finger print scanner and windows 10. Nice size screen too and so light for travel. Touch screen would be have been nice but I am not expecting it at the price.

    • +1

I have the UX305 and battery lasts 9-12 hours.
These ultrabooks are amazing from Asus.

  • I had bought one locally last year. Went dead just outside the warranty period. It's now with Asus for them to consider if they will repair it under warranty.

I had rather buy MacBook Pro. Very happy with my last two.

    • Agree. The only reason I don't want to buy a new Mac book pro is my current one, the first gen retina mbp(5 yr old), is still working flawlessly!

    • Statutory warranty. Find the ACCC page on it.

Does this come with american power adaptor or will they change to australian ones?

    • +2

That could be annoying as my UX305 comes with a small power adapter not the normal brick style one where you can change the 240v cable. The power supply is lightweight all in one unit. Might require a travel adapter.

    • +1

My friend bought one, she carries a converter with her power adaptor. I don't think they will provide an Australian adaptor.

    • +1

If you don't care about it being legally compliant, you can just bend the pins to suit australian plugs

    • I picked this up last time it was posted - confirm that it ships with American adaptor.

  • I have had the UX305 for a nearly 2 years, would love to upgrade to this newer model and also spotted it on Amazon. The UX305 has been excellent great screen, keyboard, battery life, 1.2kg weight. Excellent build quality, only slight downside I would say is the trackpad, but I use a wireless mouse.

The UX330 is a newer better version, slimmer and has the 52 watt hour battery (same as Dell XPS and up from 48 WHr in the UX305), would also be quicker with i5.

so do we know if it is covered by Asus Australia warranty or not? have read contradictory views above :(

    • Best way it is to contact Asus Australia for the particular model, and ask they will cover it or not~

      • You will actually need the serial number of the device for them to confirm. It is not safe to assume it will be covered just by the model listing or anything on Amazon website. Read my earlier post, as all indications are that mine have international warranty but when they checked serial numbers in their database they renegged. Unfortunately I had bought two units on seperate occasions before finding this out. Both units had the same story. Asus were more than frustrating to deal with. I would assume no warranty in Australia and then be pleasantly surprised, rather than trust they will honour it and be disappointed.

        • +1

Or buy it and contact Asus Australia when you have the unit (serial number). If it does not cover, then explain to Amazon and send it back within 30 days return period (After return period they may charge you restocking fee.).

  • No Thunderbolt 3 :/

    • Pardon my ignorance but what's tb3 port used for? 4k monitor output?

      • +1

Can be used for many things!
Multiple 4k monitors from the one TB3 port, super quick external storage, one cable docking, fast charging, etc.
But what I consider to be the best feature is external GPU support, where you could hook up a really good GPU to a lightweight laptop so that you don't have to forego the portability when you're out and about :)

        • cheers for that Jimmy!

  • +2

So from reading the comments above and in my own personal experience, Asus Australia are not good at customer and warranty service in case of an item with Asus international warranty. Personally, I would rather not buy, but that is just my opinion.

    • +1

+1, after my experiences with Amazon + Asus, I wouldn't do it again. "Not worth it" was my sentiment after trying to deal with them. I'll stick with local leading brands next time…
      YMMV
