Received an email from CarHistory. Copy and paste below.

With the end of financial year (EOFY) car sales in full swing, it’s a perfect time to drive a bargain on your next used car purchase. But don’t risk buying that car without knowing its reported history.

A comprehensive CarHistory Report + PPSR Certificate can tell you more about a car than just taking it for a test drive. It can answer important questions like:

What's the rego status?

Is there money owing?

Has it ever been reported stolen or written off?

How does the sale price compare?

Is the odometer reading consistent, or is there evidence it’s been rolled back?

Buy with confidence With a CarHistory report for only $25 (usually $36.95), make your next used car purchase a confident one. Hurry - this offer ends soon!

This is different to just a PPSR report which you can get for $3.40 from here:

The CarHistory report I usually buy it for expensive 2nd hand cars. Like is it really a first time owner selling the car. Was it ever a hire care? Etc.

If I'm buying a cheap second hand car i would personally settle for the cheaper PPSR report.

Meh, ppsr is all you need, rest is generic model information that can be googled anywhere

Ppsr plus looking in the owners manual to match up the first owner… Simple enough

Just use PPSR, and do your own research on redbook for average price/km for age.

Then review service history to determine owners/maintenance standards.

    This report not really necessary

  • Odometer rollback only uses advertised km from previous sales. They don't access Regristration Data AFAIK. Unlikely to show up anything there.but it sounds good.

    • I can't imagine who knows your odo reading besides the ones who service your car. And I don't see why they would report that info to anyone.

      • In states with an annual rego check such as NSW, the mileage is recorded as part of the check - but I don't think it's ever available to anyone to use/check

Carhistory is a scam. $25for something that only costs $3.70 if you go to the source of the information here https://www.ppsr.gov.au/

      ^^ THIS!!!

      • I made the mistake thinking that RAC wouldn't possibly be offering a report that is dodgy, thought I saved a few bucks going via RAC and then found out about the ppsr website. They got me and I hope they don't get anyone else.

  • i know that this is a rip off but i believe it does provide you with the functionality to do a history check based on car rego ….. which in some cases is very handy (ie no access to the car).
(some of the other sites don’t even do that !)

  • www.carhistory.com.au is a scam. I received a report which said there were no accidents but the car had two accidents in the first 5 years. Then I read the reviews and many people who bought reports from them are saying the same thing. They can't even tell if the odometer clock is reversed. A lot of false advertising by www.carhistory.com.au. Just google the info you need, ask the seller, inspect the vehicle well (google how to check car before buying) and get ppsr report. Take a GOOD mechanic with you if you are really interested in the car (costs $100 or so but worth it). Thanks for posting this offer OP but I am giving nagative vote because it is a scammy service by www.carhistory.com.au

  • Interesting experiences and information above.

Cheers guys. Definitely opened up eyes and have learnt something new.

I always thought it was a must.

Love OzB and the knowledge share that goes on.
