Yes, when you could buy "sets" from 1-10 where #10 had everything and came in a wheel-around trolley with drawers. You could also buy bridging sets, so if you had set #4, the 4-5 bridging set gave you all the extra bits to make it like you had set #5.
If only they had stamped the pieces out of stainless steel, it would still be usable. I still have the set, but it's pretty rusty, just from decades of exposure to air.
The taller version of this was panned for being utterly terrible. It might be a bit better in the smaller version as its less flimsy

Bought one 2 days ago when I was instore, there were plenty of the meccasaurs selling at $79 as well. not sure the quality of this robot, but the price seems decent. Product made in China, I do not expect this one as good as LEGO EV3
