My Wife bought me a PS4 Pro as a surprise gift

Today, my wife bought me a PS4 Pro to celebrate my graduation from Macquarie University. Now I dont know where to start.

btw I am totally new to the PS platform as I am/was a PC gamer, amateur playing. I like mostly RPG games like Witcher III, Dragon Age Origin, Elder Scroll V: Skyrim etc. When it comes to multiplayer, I prefer to play FIFA.

My wife got it from EB games which includes main console, 3 games - Watchdogs 2, horizon zero dawn and The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind plus PS Universal Remote Control Original deal link

We got a 4K tv for our lounge last October which is pretty good in streaming UHD stuff from Amazon Prime and Netflix. Anybody interested in buying a tv can check it out - Series 9 55 inch JS9000 4K SUHD TV
I hope the 4K experience will be great now that I have my hands on the pro.

she became a real Ozbargainer today! :D

Any suggestion or tips to setup and start the PS experience

Get PS Plus 14 day trial and immediately a year as its on sale ATM.

Horizon zero dawn is amazing, Ive only put ~3-4 hours into it so far but love it.

ozgameshop.com is great for PS4 games on the cheap, they're shipped from the UK so not fast, but often cheaper then local prices.

Target and BigW and such often are cheaper then JB and EBgames for games, prices are generally online but still have a look when you can.

You can pay for PS Plus on one account and have multiple accounts access many of its benefits IF you set it as the primary PS4 of that account.

If you get PS plus, even the 14 day trial on their store, you get some games for month you download as part of the cost.

Most games have a decent patch download to go with them, 40+GB for Morrowind for instance so get those downloads going.

Oh and with the pro, in the settings you can enable better performance for non-pro games, enable that, its off by default, along with all the "update while asleep" options so you dont wake it and wait an hour for updates in the future.

Get yourself a second controller to play alongside your wife if your interested. Some multiplayer games I have played with my partner and enjoyed include the Lego series (Harry Potter ones were great), overcooked, diablo 3, terraria and binding of Isaac.

Another tip is to keep an eye on the PS store for sales. It is great having digital copies of the games if you don't care about having a physical copy. By going digital it will improve performance (loading times etc), less noise due to no disc and can start and play your games right off the bat.

    • I moved to PC and haven't had a console since the 360, but surely you still install physical games and play them off the HDD instead of playing off the disc?

      • -1

no, the disc must be in the console the time you intend to play that game despite installing it and numerous updates. Console has been always like this.

      • You do. After installing the disc just acts as a key so you can't install a game on all your friends consoles but can still sell or trade the game, unlike a digital download. There's absolutely no difference in load times or anything else since the game runs fully off the HDD whether it's a download or a disk install, it's exactly the same.

        • Yeah, that's the way it was on 360 so I thought it would still be.

First thing I would is make 1 Aussie PSN account, 1 US, 1 Canadian and possibly 1 Indonesian account. Its very easy to create and you get to enjoy the best deals of various regions on your main account(Aussie) by setting other accounts as primary PS4.

Most of the time, the deals are better on the US/Canada Stores.

1 year PS Plus is going for AUD $48.95 in AU store while AUD $49.99 in Canadian Store.

Indonesian Store always have the cheapest PS Plus deal and offer more or less the same games, sometimes even better games than rest of the world. This month they are offering Just Cause 3(instead of Life is Strange) besides other games. 1 year PS Plus is AUD $35

PS Plus is crucial to play most multiplayer games. Some free multiplayer games allows you to play online without PS Plus such as Smite, Paragon, Warframe.

If you are a massive FIFA fan like me, then right now there are no deals for standard edition on the digital stores. You can get physical edition for cheap possibly or pre-order FIFA 18 which has Icons, rebranding of legends available on all major platforms.

You will enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn. I'm prob 10 hours in and loving it.

Get PS4 exclusives like Uncharted and The Last of US. Great games.

I used to be a PC guy but pretty only game on the PS4 it's just so much easier, although I can't stand playing shooters without a mouse and keyboard.

    • Yep, if you're a PC gamer, you want the PS exclusives.

Look for bargains on here for Uncharted 4 and Uncharted collection (1-3) (very cheap recently, and some of the best games ever), and The Last of Us, Journey, etc…

    • 10 hours nice so you bought it 10 hours ago?

Also for shooters get a xim4 use M/K on console

      • I bought it a week ago but can't play much due to family/exams. I looked into xims but I can't afford one

    • In the same boat as you on pretty much all of that except TLoU was so over hyped IMO (Walking Dead Series 1 did the surrogate father story line way better/deeper for me and it came out first). Of course there's also the possibility that I would have enjoyed it much more if I played it when it first came out.

Uncharted was the series that surprised me with how much I liked it. It filled me with Wanderlust like nothing else ever has.

Also I usually hate shooters on ps4 but Killing Floor 2 (free on ps plus) is one game FPS I do really enjoy on ps4 and it's a pretty solid 60 fps so it actually feels nice.
