Greats apps, will definitely be using Affinity photo going forward considering that Adobe have decided to extend their horrendous price gouging to students.

    • Yeah I was never a fan of Adobe and their gouging strategy - that's why I stayed away.

Affinity still has a way to go to compete with Adobe but they work really well for my needs. Now I need a good Digital Asset Manager (DAM) to catalogue my photos and videos to complete with lightroom. Right now I'm using Capture One Pro.

      • Do you recommend Capture One Pro? Is it as good as Lightroom in terms of editing, using presets etc.? It's on my list to explore.

        • If you have a Sony camera you get download the express version for free, but its limited to Sony RAW files or you can try a 30 day trial.

It's alright, a bit overkill for what I now use it for. Use to use it a lot like lightroom alternative to do edits, then just started using it for cataloguing my photos and some lens correction but I'm using apps like Affinity Photos or Macphun Luminar to do edits since it can do a lot more.

I'm just holding out until Macphun or Affinity make a DAM. My workflow isnt the greatest but its only a hobby for me.

        • I ditched light room a long time ago for cp1.
For me editing Nikon raw files is much better as I prefer the output and you get a lot more control over skin tones etc.

Presets are something they have introduced in the last version or so but their not as easy to use as LR. Then again I don't use presets so I'm not fussed.

Best thing is to give the trial a go.

  • Much better than Adobe Photoshop Elements which is what remained as a long standing alternative to the normal Adobe Photoshop

Easy recommendation over GIMP or other cheap alternatives and does some stuff a bit better than Adobe

I am currently using the trial versions. Affinity Designer seems OK so far…but lacks some functions I need.

I can't use Affinity Photo because it isn't a Adobe Lightroom replacement. According to their forums, Affinity Photo is like Adobe Photoshop + Adobe Camera Raw plug-in.

I think the Adobe suite is still the best. But the subscription pricing increases is getting ridiculous… I was happy to pay $120 per year (Photography plan), but now it will be like $170. Adobe says this is about "currency exchange rates" o_O

    • Maybe look at On1 Raw as a LR replacement

  • +1 for Affinity!

Combine with cashrewards for apple app stores and iTunes gift cards for further savings!

  • It looks like if you use Opera VPN set to US it's priced at 39.99 USD which is around $54 AUD. Does anyone know if that works?

EDIT: Ok, looks like during checkout you could set your country which changes the currency (and price) of the app. However, according to some forum post I found the country is set forever on your account.
