  • Why would you get the Play over the normal Z, when it is only $40 difference ? Battery life?

    • +2
      1. Battery life
      2. headphone jack - Z version No headphone due to 5.19mm thinness
      3. running a bit cooler
  • +2

That's cheap. How does this compare to the G5 plus?

    • +2

      Same:

both run snapdragon 625, so similar performance

      Difference:

      1. Z play has bigger battery
      2. Z play has a Amoled display while G5+ IPS display
      3. G5+ has a better unlock button, you can use it as a home button. But z play you can only use it to unlock
      • +3

Z Play also has USB-C, G5 Plus is still using Micro-USB.

And you are getting 32GB storage instead of 16GB on the base model G5 Plus.

Negative is slightly older but only 6 months and not local stock/warranty. But Z Play seems to best value option.

        • +1

You can also use Moto Mod on Z play, but I doubt anyone will buy as they are expensive. Anyway there is an option and maybe they get cheaper as time goes by

    Single sim: no B28

This is by far the best phone I've ever owned (ahead of the Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 5 etc).

Battery life is utterly, stupidly ridiculous even without a battery pack mod. I usually go home with 75% of a charge left.

It's a little underpowered, but I have yet to notice that in real usage and I consider myself a power user.

At $500 I could recommend this phone. At $333 it's a steal and I'm extremely jealous of anyone who manages to pick it up at this price.

    • How's the camera?

      • It's passable. Not as good as my 6P but it does the job. To be honest I don't care about the camera much.

    • +1. Best phone EVA!! Massively under rated.

  • Where is the Motorola Z Play Kogan is selling from?

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/motorola-moto-z-play-xt1635-32g…

    • Europe.

  • +1

Yeah the cheaper "chinese" Moto Z Play, which is usually at this price point doesn't do many bands, nor B28

My Xt1635-02 from DWI Has all the bands you'd need and more (including the india bands), I highly recommend the phone and has dual sim, but hey cost me $455

I get 8 hours screen time with mid-heavy use for a day, with bright screen, and the processing power is fine, can get 2 days with moderate use (like about 5 hours browsing, lasts 40 hours)

  • This is a good price. Expect more deals on it as the successor Z2 Play is out:

    http://www.gsmarena.com/moto_z2_play-review-1622.php

    • Don't bother with Z2 Play. Save the cash and get Z Play. Supports NFC for cashless payments if anyone cares.

      • +1

Agree. Had a quick look at Z2 Play, smaller battery so 1mm thinner, did get better unlock button like G5+ and a bit better camera same as G5+. But the start price is US$499 instead of US$399 of Z Play. Will see a price hike in Australian

  • From what I heard, the moto z play's camera is the great, isn't it?

    • +2

Not the greatest, but definitely "good enough"

      • I meant not that great. lol

  • +1

It shows single SIM when I expanded the details in the listing.

  • Can anyone confirm this is the dual model and has B28 as well? I really want this to have both, if not the only two things that would stop me from buying this phone.

      • Looks like single sim sold by Amazon.de as they note under their details/specs.

  • Also has built in SIP / VOIP client if anyone is interested.

Delivery details says Not delivered outside Germany when you copy the link across on to a new browser. But clicking via Ozbargain link, it seems to say delivered to Australia.

Have people here encountered issues with Amazon Germany via eBay or would you guys say it is all good.

Plus the simgle sim and dual sim confusion needs a bit of clarification. Is there a Moto Z Play with dual sim? How do we find out which is which? Can we refer to model no:

    • Not 100% but looks like only the version sold by Motorola Motomaker is dual sim, this looks like single sim.

    • no matter which link i click i can't get it delivered to australia..

  • how does warranty work with this? international warranty?

  • Thanks OP, i been monitoring this and the Moto Z for a bit but got one of these for dad recently and he is getting through the week on a single charge (lightish user).
Got one for me and one for the wife.

Impressive in general and OS is very much similar in feel as the stock android on a google phone. Screen is awesome to look at as it is super amoled.
Most annoying parts so far is the updates. Its not cumulative so on a new phone its about 10 updates and a fair chunk of time to bring to latest level.

Appears to be getting security updates once a month. Nice!

NOTE: Wife wanted white one but they didnt ship to AU :/ if you in same situation and want the more cpu/better screen but much less battery, get the Moto Z for $35~ more.

  • Awesome, thanks OP. I paid for this Moto Z keyboard on IndieGoGo (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/keyboard-mod-a-physical-k…), and now I'l actually have a phone to use it with when it arrives.

  • Deal is back up for anyone still interested.
