All outta love right now. Cheapest Qantas flight is $1100.

  • Would love to see some options to Dubai for November :)

Found Virgin direct fares even cheaper from Bris, e.g. 7/11-20/11 for $912 ($846 on Fiji Airways if you don't mind the stopover)

I wonder if there's a way to extend the stopover time on one of these cheap flights? 5 hour stopover is too short to spend some time in Fiji, but extend that by 24 or 48 hours would be nice…

  • Bri-LAX has QFF availability in late Nov/early Dec on some dates where the cheap fares are unavailable .. EG out Nov 30 back Dec 30 .. :-) .. !!

We flew SYD-LAX on QANTAS last month on the A380. Seats, staff and seatback entertainment are very good, considering it's an economy fare on a long flight. With the adjustable headrest supports you can actually sleep for a bit if tired enough.

All the online travel agents listed on IWTF had rubbish reviews so we just paid the extra few dollars to book directly on QANTAS's website.

    Some surprises for me:

    • Online check-in starts weeks before you fly, not 24 hours. So click the "manage your booking" link they email you straight after booking, if you want to choose seats (you do).

    • When you do that, they may charge you an extra $30 per person to choose seats (that's not much extra, but I thought it was free - it is on domestic flights). I prefer seats near the back of the plane, as there's a decent chance you'll score an empty seat next to you and so sleep much better.

    • The A380 had full-size power points, usb charging (somewhat slow though) and a bunch of good TV/Movies including major recent films and HBO.

  • Anyone got suggestions for one way tickets from Aus (Mel or Syd) to Continental USA ? All the specials are always return and a one way fare is the same price. Later in 2017, Aug-Oct if possible.

    • Try a Jetstar special to Honolulu and a cheapo US domestic airline like Spirit from HNL to wherever you need to go.

      • thanks, thats pretty much the only options I have been able to find. When the MEL-HNL are on special they are certainly most competitive, and often include cheap connecting flights from other places in Australia.

Just frustrating with all these return tickets around the world for 2x legs .. cant even find something for 60-70% of the price one way.

Note if you're an Aussie on visa waiver they will probably need to see your return flight/onward flight out of the USA

        • +1

My previous travels are a bit to adventurous and make me ineligible for a visa waiver unfortunately.

Hopefully the visa process and paperwork in advance make it a bit easier to enter on a one-way ticket.

        • @webbj: Iran?

  • Virgin or Delta ? Who is better? I've flown Virgin before, I liked the lemongrass curry they served and the mood lighting they used. Also I liked the fact that they had Carman's muesli and Timtam bars!

    • +1

IMHO Virgin runs rings around Delta, nicer plane, nicer food, nicer staff

      • Do Virgin still limit alcohol to one drink with your meal, like they did when they started?
