Laptop Suggestions - Budget $1500

Okay guys I've only ever owned desktops and need to upgrade to a laptop because I'm going to be doing a snow season at Mt. Buller this winter.
I'm buying a DSLR camera aswell because I want get into photography. So the main purpose for my laptop in the immediate future will be editing photos and watching movies.
However I will probably start gaming on it when I get back. I know there are a lot of EOFY sales on atm so if anyone has good suggestions I would appreciate them.
Price range is $1000-$1500
Thanks

    I will start by recommending a E570p

But it's not particularly light, just to warn you. Starting at 2.39 kg and the charger and cables will add to your luggage weight.

You would be looking at a 15 inch at least for photos and make sure its FHD at least.
If you are touching them up or editing video then look for a beefy i5 or i7, and at least 8GB of ram. Best to get 16 for future proofing.
A Video card is useful for video encoding or light gaming. Look for something around gtx1050.
Dell inspiron 15 are around that price range (I5, 15" IPS,8GB,SSD,1050ti)
Metabox is a bit more but a bit better (i7,15"IPS,16GB,SSD,HDD,1050)
As scrimshaw mentioned lenovo has sales often that can be quiet good.

    • Not as good as above 3 options. There is a core count difference in GTX 1050 and the 1050 Ti edition.

      640 vs 768 shader units

      • Was sold on the e570p mate but available online only and ships within 2-3 weeks. I'm leaving Monday. I think I can get it sent up there but I was hoping to pick one up locally. Do you think shopfront laptops won't be as good as these?

Just be aware not all screens are equal in colour accuracy if you're going into the photography route.

A lot of websites/manufactures won't state the colour space that the screen can produce. (sRGB, AdobeRGB etc).

I'm not too sure with the lenovos even though they are IPS screens, if they can produce accurate colours. Generally you'll want a screen with an accuracy above 90% of the sRGB colour space. I know the Dell XPS line, Macbook Pros, Surface line have the best screens available for colour accuracy, but may be out of your budget.
