Bellini Pressure cooker recall

Just a headsup for anyone who got in on this deal ( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/271387 ). Target has issued a recall due to a possible faulty lid ( https://www.productsafety.gov.au/system/files/recall/Bellini… ).

Shame because mine got a lot of use. So the next question 'obviously' is what should I replace it with? Was looking at the instapot, they seem to be quite popular and can get the U.K. version (240V) that isn't too expensive. Otherwise can someone recommend a local option, must be 6lt in order to take the SS inner I already have.

(edit: Just ordered the instantpot from Amazon)

I'm surprised ACL doesn't require retails to contact people who purchased the product … simply posting a note on the recalls site doesn't seem like it's enough in this day and age.

how would the retailer do that?

duh, if the person paid with credit card then the retailer hacks the CC company database to get the persons phone number.

if they paid cash then they should at the time of the transaction lift finger prints off the cash used and store them in case of a recall. then when the recall comes in the retailer hacks the police fingerprint database to acquire the persons details.

        what else would they do???!!!

        • you don't need the police - if someone has been to the USA then their fingerprints are on file.

it shouldn't take long for this to happen. On CSI they used a special computer that narrowed down suspects as the investigators shouted out the possible variations. The computer rig was connected video surveillance, private and public databases all in realtime. It even enhanced Nokia VGA images to 12meg DSLR standards simply my saying 'can you enhance that? enhance more, more again'

Target will have something like this I'm sure.

I was just thinking for online orders + loyalty cards.

Sure, there's plenty of sales that aren't traceable, but there are also plenty that are and retailer don't even have to bother to try to contact them, when they could.

I bought, from COTD, a wall usb travel charger with 5 ports. Quite a few months later, I got an email from them advising if potential issues with it catching fire. They process a refund and told me to despose of the item

          Thumbs up

        • @BuyoTheCat: dare I ask how you "disposed" of it.

        • @altomic:

I bought it for a holiday trip and I was on holiday when I got the email. I used it for the rest of the trip, bearing in mind not to leave it charging unattended, and it was in a small bag that was stolen/lost on my way back. So it was disposed of.

  • Do you need the receipt ?
I bought mine from this deal in 2015 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202142

Use it a lot, so would also be interested to hear thoughts on replacements for similar cost.
    Cheers

    • I rang Target and they said no receipt needed as all stores were aware of the recall. Just take it back. As for a replacement unit as noted above I ordered the Instant Pot 7-in-1 from Amazon UK, yes, it's a lot more expensive but it does a lot more, has great reviews on Amazon and other places and has an all stainless steel interior to boot. :)

      • Any idea how much money they are refunding ? Weren't these $79 RRP ?

        • Sorry, couldn't say. I'll take mine back when my Instant Pot arrives. Planning on rice tomorrow night. :)

        • @EightImmortals:

DEFECT: Lid can become loose under pressure. HAZARD: Scalding or burns from
food being released from the cooker.
ACTION REQUIRED: Immediately stop using the product and return it….

Why would you keep using it?

        • @Elppa8: There are a lot of people who kept their Note7 as well - some people just like to spin the dial.

        • @Elppa8: cos I need rice and it's been working OK up until now so another couple of goes should be well within tolerance levels. (It's not like they've been exploding?) :)

          They're refunding $79

        • @Elppa8: they really love rice their rice

  • Thanks for the headsup. Will be returning it.

  • Oh geez. I got one of these units too

  • Will be interested in what you think about the Instapot. I was thinking about the Cook4Me, but I don't think it does Yogurt.

    • I'll PM you in a few weeks after I've got it had a play.

    • Cook4Me… Sounds like a line from 'once were Warriors'… Cook me some eggs… Cook4me

  • wow, thanks for the heads up.

Myself and a few friends have the unit so will gather them up and bring them back.

Returned two today without receipt and got $79 refunded each

    • Thanks for that, it will offset the cost of a replacement.

  • Can't seem to find an Instant Pot anywhere. Sad.

    • Here's the amazon link but they are saying oos for some reason? Maybe keep an eye on that page or send instantpot a question?

      https://www.amazon.co.uk/Instant-Pot-Electric-Pressure-Stain…

      • Thanks, I saw that, strange how something so popular is oos. I will keep an eye out.

How is yours going anyway? Awesome as the reviews say it is?

        • Yeah no problems, The only glitch is that it doesn't slow-cook properly, stuff just doesn't heat up unless it's mostly liquid. A lot of people with the same problem, but for everything else it's great and even came with a stainless steel inner pot, no teflon.
