Hopefully contents was not put into the plastic pouch whilst hot. Take the contents out before reheating. Never cook in plastic. All sorts of chemicals leach out.

The preservation of these relies on a heat treatment after the hermetic seal is formed to inactivate clostridium botulinum spores and other pathogens. These would have seen something like 115c for 1hr.

These pouches will be multi-layer - likely mostly Polypropylene / Nylon / Polyester. They're typically approved for direct contact with food up to about 122c.

        Sure

      • Hot food in contact with plastic? "Be my guest!"

    • these are a "remove from pouch before heating" variety.

      • That's usually because of the aluminium layer not behaving too well in a microwave.

Oh OK thanks. Just worried about my OZB buddies 'falling off their perches'.

  • These taste nothing like the real thing.

It probably cost me the same amount to make this at home, albeit I make it for the entire week and freeze. This has all sorts of preservatives and chemicals that make it taste very different.

    • mind sharing your recipe to help felow ozbargainers to save $$?

    • "This has all sorts of preservatives and chemicals" yeah nah. They might be shit but that's just a lie.

    MTR Ready-to-Eat Curry Pouches

    Do they have Octopus ?

    • Lol

    • If they have pouches they are probably K-Roo!

  • For real this is like some end of the world type of food.

  • +1

Save only 79 cents? They mustn't be good quality if the starting price was so low.

    • +1

      logic right there

I'd rather buy a tin of chickpeas, an onion and a packet of shan spice mix.

  • +1

    I'll look out for these.

  • MTR = My Tongue Rules?

  • curry in a hurry!

  • Where is this slop made?

  • Is it imported from India or made in Oz? Imported ones taste way better.

  • At $1.70 the price is OK, but it's pretty much the daily price at dedicated Indian shops in Dandenong (MKS Spices), Clayton or Springvale, however I much prefer the other (made in India without artificial stuff) brands such as Patti that are tastier and more substantial.

  • In my opinion this is one of the best Dal Makhani available on the market - Taste wise very close to the real thing. We do however do some changes and not eat straight from the pack. Add a bit of red chilli and Garam masala as per taste and fry in butter in a Pan (Makhani means butter). Also probably add 3-4 teaspoon of water to slightly dilute the consistency as it's very thick out of the packet. Normally serve with Chanai Roti ( easily available in most Indian Stores) and yoghurt and it's a very inexpensive and quick meal. Indian dinner night sorted!
