Looking to buy 2017 Subaru Impreza- Now or wait?

I know it's the end of the financial year and all, but I'm looking at getting a Subaru Impreza Premium (new or demo), which unfortunately is excluded from Subaru's EOFY offerings. My dilemma is that I'd prefer to get this with the 5 year warranty (instead of 3) that is on offer with other Subaru models. I know they did do a promotion late last year offering the Impreza with 5 year warranty, don't know whether to hold out for another promotion or get it now and negotiate for the extra 2 years?

Negotiation based on precedent is an easy task else threaten to buy a Mitsubishi …

  • Wait 3 years, guaranteed to be cheaper than now 😂

    • Wait 10 years guaranteed you'll pay quarter the price

      • 20 years and it could be free on gumtree as is where is.

  • Why don't you wait till the next 5 year promotion. By then you will end up with an more updated model too as well as more savings

  • Use a time machine and go back in time 2 years and wait.

  • Use a time machine, go back 1 year, and then give it to me

  • Saw this on TV a few days ago that for mid end vehicles anywhere from 3 - 5k off the sticker price is reasonable ask. Either use this as leverage to negotiate down the price or get a better warranty. Personally, if your vehicle is not a lemon in 3 years it wont be after 5

edit. Last statement should read, 'Personally, in my not-empirically-tested opinion…"

    • That's a great point you make, my current car has several issues related to electricals and almost all of them appeared around the 3 year marks. Perhaps it's not as much of a must have as I originally thought!

I wouldnt put much weight in the 5 year warranty. Things that will break usually do so in the first year. I would rather get a better deal on price. I know the 2018 WRX and WRX STI are coming out next month, they have increased sound dampening and upgraded trim levels i think, double check whether the imprezas have any improvements coming as well.

If they are, then your better off getting the new one, or bargaining for a few thousand off the old.

It's a tough one with warranties for cars. The dealership will make you service the car at the dealership you purchased from to get the extended warranty & ontop of that you have to pay premium $$ every time you service your car. I was a sucker paying $300+ every time for a normal service to for the sake of the warranty for years. I now pay $130 for the same thing.

Its not like they will just fix it if something goes wrong anyway. Will always try & make it difficult. Unless its a recall.

You don't need to go to a dealership to have your car serviced during the warranty period. You just need to ensure the mechanic you go to uses genuine parts

      • Yeah it's good you mentioned it. Has anyone actually done this & had a warranty claim accepted when not taking to a dealership? When i purchased my car 10 years ago it was the dealership or your warranty wasnt valid.

      • Correct for manufacturer warranty however most extended warranties will have a requirement to be serviced at the dealer.
Extended warranties are just a way for the dealer to make more money by getting you to service with them.
