Super NES Classic Edition! Thoughts?

This looks to have been officially announced overnight:

With the difficulty of obtaining the NES classic Mini, who is keen to get one of these? Price should be similar, around the $100 mark. I grew up playing the Super Nintendo so I am definitely keen.

Includes 29 games per the news article and two controllers. More info:

  • My thoughts are: what are my chances of not paying above retail for this thing.

    • Fairly high, but the savings likely won't be great e.g. might be able to pre-order from JB with discounted gift cards

I like the games on this one much more than the NES classic

Definitely. As iconic as the games were on NES, I just feel they came so much further with the SNES (my opinion).

  • Only planning restocks this year, but "significantly" more produced than Mini

Fingers crossed they do the N64 next

    • it's been made try look for some pics from E3 they had all of them on show.

were just getting what we asked for and fair play to Nintendo when they announced the mini classic the feedback they got was people wanted the SNES they have done exactly that.

not sure if they will launch the remainder together or staged each year.

      • I had a quick look, seems there is many people that believe it will never happen, at least not any time soon. Also unless Nintendo team up with Rare, I don't think it would be as big a success as it could be should they do it. Most of the games I want to play are definitely Rare titles.

        • As much as I'd love Rare games, I think there are more than enough 64 games to satisfy.

Plus there would be some of the Rare games (like DKC 64) that they may still be able to use.

        • the implication from nintendo rep talking to the reporter asking questions was that they were not just demo's and they would eventually make it to market hopefully not to an ebay store near you for $1000 bucks more than they plan to sell them for.

there isn't too much inside them i understand the collectability nostalgia whatever you want.

i'd prefer personally if they rolled all into one and allowed you to pick your fav console as the outer shell and have the others as alternate shells id you wanted to change it out for a different look.

    • How awesome would that be!!

  • September 30th with a suggested retail price of AU$119.95
    http://www.nintendo.com.au/nintendo-announces-the-nintendo-c…

AC Adapted NOT included can buy an official one for $19.95, it's just USB

    • You don't need that particular one though, since it's USB powered, you could just use your phone charger.

I wasnt into the NES one as the games seem limited to people of the current generation, it better suits the slower people of the 80's.

But this system has much more playable games like Star Fox, Donkey Kong, F-Zero etc

i'm so happy we get the colourful version and not the ugly purple US version

  • As long as it can be modded like the NES Classic, I'll be buying one. Love that incldues two controllers, hopefully the cords are a little longer

    • Don't worry it will be. Someone will crack it open within a week.

  • can't wait for ozbargain to turn back into ozrestock for another 6 months.

I don't know why they can't just make a device that lets you play all the old school consoles and sells for less than these mini consoles do…

  • If I get one, I'll likely mod it and add games that aren't there, including fan translated ones (the SNES Fire Emblem games, Tales of Phantasia, Star Ocean etc.)

  • Does that mean you can insert old SNES cartridges into the console and play them as well, or can you only play the pre-loaded games?

    • Only the preloaded games - cannot insert a cartridge

  • This reminds me of just how absolutely ugly the US version of the SNES was. Pre-orders are still up, guess they weren't kidding about making more of these ones this time.

look how much people have them on ebay for already

    • what a time to be alive
