  • two-day sale on all USB-C chargers

Are USB-C car chargers aren't included in this deal or just those that are listed?

  • Hi OP, do you have any charger that works with USB-C to Lightening cable?

    • +5

If you are talking about iPad Pro — unfortunately no. iPad Pro uses a proprietary charging protocol that only Apple's USB-C chargers can support via the USB-C to Lightning cable. The standard PD chargers are not compatible.

      • Good to know, thanks a lot for the info.

  • no PB-Y3?

    • We can't legally ship 30000mAh (>100Wh) power banks by air, and you also can't legally bring it on a plane. :-)

      • +4

        we gonna need a boat

  • Which battery pack would you recommend for charging an XPS 15 laptop via usb-c?

    • +1

Unfortunately we haven't seen any high-quality PD chargers yet. Once we find great products in this category we will definitely introduce them.

  • Any idea of any of these USB Type-C chargers or batteries put out enough juice to charge a laptop like the HP Spectre 360?

    • As above. We haven't found a reliable PD power bank that we are happy with. You can get up to 15W of charging power with the products we sell — it's okay as a power backup but it's nowhere near the charging speed of a proper PD wall charger.

  • Hi OP, can the Anker PowerPort+ 5-Port charge the Razer Blade Stealth via the USB-C port?

    • +6

Razer Blade Stealth has a 45W PD input and this charger should be on spec. We suggest trying it and in the absence of any public test results, we will take the risk. If it doesn't work you can return it to us for a full refund.

  • Could you explain this note on the Anker PowerPort+ 5-Port:

To ensure best performance, we strongly recommend charging iPhone, iPad (including iPad Pro) and Lumia 950 via the PowerIQ ports.

Specifically the Lumia 950, which is USB-C - wouldn't this charge faster directly from the type-C port, using C-C cable? (3A over USB-C vs 2.4A over IQ port)

    • The note was written by Anker's product team. Perhaps Lumia 950 doesn't use standard USB-C charging standard (just like the iPad Pro) and you're better off with 2.4A.

      • AFAIK, 950/950XL do use the standard usb-c charging standard. They are standard 5V/3A ports, unlike other companies like Apple. The 950/950XL works fine with all other USB-C chargers.

See here - the Lumia 950 correctly negotiates 5V/3A over Power Delivery with the Anker PowerPort+ 5 (and ends up pulling down 2.7A in this example):
        https://gtrusted.com/what-goes-on-when-the-anker-powerport-5…

Would you be able to clarify the note with Anker's product team?

  • Shame that there are no power adapters that output 60W (20V/3A). My Precision 5520 (same as XPS 15 9360) needs 60W to charge.

    • I have a 2016 MBP 15" that ships with 87W charger. The Anker 60W charger works great, never skipped a beat, never seen the battery drop.

      • The 2016 / 2017 MBPs will charge with anything that does at least 5V/3A. Much like most Chromebooks.

This Anker only does 45W on the USB-C PD port.

      • How does it compare in weight and size to the 87w charger?

  • Any specials on USB-C cables to use with these chargers? Preferably ones that are USB-IF certified.

    • +1

We have Belkin USB-C 3.1 cables at 10% off (USB-IF certified). For charging only, we also now have Anker PowerLine+ USB-C to C 2.0 in stock (it wasn't available for several months) and the price remains low.

Awesome to see the quick responses from OP, this should be used as textbook example of how to post an associated deal.
Does anybody have any idea how long that solar AUKEY PB-P23 would take to fully charge? Or even charge say ~3000mAh to refill an Galaxy S8? Would love to see some stats. I would have thought such a small panel would take weeks to get a single phone charge worth

    • For solar charging — really no guarantees. I have not personally tested this product and AUKEY says solar charging is supplementary, and the price also reflects that. So far we haven't had any complaints but probably because the expectations were not high in the first place. Otherwise it's a great QC 3.0 + USB-C power bank at a good price.

      • It's a shame that you don't know the answer about solar panels, I understand that it's not much more expensive as an option but it's the only thing I'd consider buying in this sale, and only if the solar charging effect was not insignificant.

I noticed on the mophie charger that it has pass-through technology that allows the device to be plugged into the wall and also into a device. Can you find out whether the other devices offer that technology or do they all prohibit charging during use?

        • Only Mophie devices advertise pass-through charging. We also know that none of the AUKEY power banks support this feature.

  • Any idea if you'll ever stock the Anker 26800+ that does PD?

    https://www.anker.com/products/B1375111

    • Yeah I've been fishing around for this as well but when I've asked around in at Australian retailers that stock Anker and none of them are able to stock it for some reason.

I have an MBP 2016 and I really want to be able to charge it on the go, but like the above comment from the OP, there isn't any USB-C with PD capable chargers.

    • This product looks great, but it's a bundle with a wall charger (that's not AU plug nor RCM approved). Unless there's a standalone PD power bank, we can't legally sell it in Australia.

      • Wow really? That's a pretty BS law. So just because this power bank comes with a charger that's not AU, you can't sell it in Australia? That's how I understand your comment.

Can you get in contact with Anker and ask if they will ever sell that product standalone and/or with an AU plug?

I'm sure there will be very high demand in it :)

        • That's exactly right. Wall chargers have to be certified safe for home use in Australia.

Unlike many other online retailers, CableGeek doesn't sell any non-approved charger.

About to pick up the Anker Powercore+ 20100, however it says in the notes that the Google Pixel is "not compatible". In what sense? That it simply won't charge the phone?

    • To be honest I'm not sure. From the official notes it does seem that there's a compatibility issue with Google Pixel and Anker may not offer a warranty in this case. I'd suggest considering the AUKEY Force Series USB-C power bank instead: the spec is the same and it's a lot cheaper.

      • Cheers bud, I ordered the Anker regardless, just because I want to primarily use it with a Nintendo Switch and it has received rave reviews for this purpose.

Regarding the Pixel compatibility - i was asking more in a future proofing sense in case I picked up a Pixel 2 when it is inevitably released, but I guess the Pixel charging specs could change by then. I wonder if it's only an issue with USB-C to USB-C charging with the Pixel, and if USB-A to USB-C would work instead?

Anyway, great deal, and thanks for being so active in the comments!

I have the PowerPort 5+ and use the PD port to charge my Chromebook Pixel LS laptop. It's awesome, it's not quite as fast as the stock charger, but it does the job at work. Plus I can charge my phone and headphones from the same charger. I love it - highly recommended to just leave at work as a second charger.

I have the stock charger at home, but rarely use it, as I charge it during the day at work.

I just ordered the AUKEY PB-BY20 for my Nexus 6P. Can't wait to receive it. I've been looking for a good USB-C charger for a while. Useful when travelling and out and about all day and don't want to be reluctant to make full use of phone because of battery concerns

From Amazon reviews regarding the same model solar charger. This is exactly as I suspected:

"I purchased this item before heading off to a 3 week holiday in Mauritius on the sole purpose that i would use the solar features to charge the device. In my experience i can tell you that having it in the sun for sometimes 17 hours at a time did not charge it at all/not enough for me to notice and rendered it useless and becoming a normal power bank. It did show the green light indicating it was charging by solar power but i doubt it ever truly was. Overall as a power bank i can tell you it did give me up to 3 full charges on my iphone 6 plus while being used, but as a 'solar' power bank being used to charge with sun alone is not really worth it."

The reviews are still mostly positive in regards to its regular power bank features, but nearly all of them make the distinction that the solar is useless.

  • Hi Op, which item should be good for the Nintendo Switch?

    • Either the Anker USB-C or AUKEY USB-C power banks will work perfectly (5V/3A output).

  • Hi OP,

any advice about charging Google CHROMEBOOK pixel 2015 (2nd gen) via powerbank? thanks

    • All USB-C power banks we have can supply 5V/3A output. This is a lot lower than the wall charger for the laptop, but you may find it handy as backup power.

didnt buy anything but just wanted to say - best REP posting in weeks!
