Not great THD specs to be honest for the prices quoted.
It should be noted however, that the 60 series Aventage amps have been superseded by the 70 series.

Check out this review on the 70 series:

    http://www.audioholics.com/av-receiver-reviews/aventage-rx-a…

An important snippet from this review is this bit (make of it what you will, but long story short the RMS figures quoted above on the older models are a little… umm… 'inflated' considering the THD recorded):

"Even the base AVENTAGE model, the AVENTAGE RX-A670, provides a decent amount of power at 80W per channel. Upon an initial glance at the specs, one would think the predecessor model, the RX-A660 was more powerful since Yamaha rated it at 95W per channel. But one most look more closely at the specs, for receiver manufacturers are sneaky sneaky.

    RX-A660 95 watts/ch 1kHz, 8 ohms, 0.9% THD+N

    RX-A670 80 watts/ch 1kHz, 8 ohms, 0.09% THD+N

The older 660 model was rated at very close to clipping whereas the newer 670 model is rated more honestly before clipping. Kudos to Yamaha for heeding our call and constant bitching about AV receiver inflated power ratings especially with Atmos AV receivers."

To be honest, I think Yamaha is trying the hard sell on these cheaper amps by naming them as part of the Aventage series of amps (Aventage is the high spec amps from Yamaha, which have a very good rep). Both these above amps aren't really 100w RMS amps (the magic figure I'd go for if building a component home theatre set up). They've pushed them to the limit to be able to record figures above 100w RMS, but as noted in the above review its not an accurate figure because the distortion recorded at those levels would be unacceptable.

Don't get me wrong, I love Yamaha amps. But sticking the Aventage logo on it and punching it as high as possible to claim its a 100w amp, is only soiling a good rep amp.

In a nutshell, stick with a proper 100w (or higher) RMS amp quoting a decent THD% at that level.

    • Good effort.

FYI that discount is given by EBAY - not us as the seller. Thanks for pointing that out though.

See reply above, EBAY gives 5% discount not us, so grab them off ebay if you would like, its all the same to us! (well we lose money on ebay fees etc, but if you guys get a better deal on ebay, then go for it).

      Cheers for your comments.

P.s. we don't have dedicated online ebay/website personnel - I am the store manager, you're welcome to come in store any day and talk face to face with me about any issues you have.

… grab them off ebay if you would like, its all the same to us!

It is certainly not all the same to us. Even now, this post continues charging your fellow OzBargain members more than any eBay customer because you are disinclined to alter the title accordingly. Your 'edit' button is between 'view' and 'revisions'.

      cheers, post title amended

seriously.. grow up with your comments. your assumptions previously were wrong as pointed out by the OP. Kudos for the OP for giving OZB bargains! we all know ozb are a hard shell to crack! Leave the damn sale alone if you are offended by them!

  • I believe they prices are going to go down as Yamaha isn't making these anymore. OP - Reckon you can do a better deal? :D

    • Hi there, that's correct, the 760 is no longer being produced, as Yamaha has done for the aventage range of AV receivers for the past 7 years (release new models every year).
We purchased the last remaining stock at a good price and I have priced them as best I can (considering it has free shipping Australia wide).
If I could do a better price I would!
      Thanks for your comment.
