  • So this XT1685 model has NFC as well?

nvm: original post confirms it does! ;-)

  • +1

Thanks for this, unlike the previous sales this supplier will ship to NZ.

    • Ah cool, I might post it on ChoiceCheapies as well then.

Are you able to use C5OZ code in NZ? I'm thinking no because it requires Aus PayPal?

      • +2

Yer I had trouble with the C5OZ coupon, you can't use a NZ Paypal account unfortunately. I still have an Australian debit card attached to a separate Paypal account so I managed to use that, it still went through with a NZ shipping address.

  • Does this have a notification led?

    • +3

I had a feeling you would ask that :) It appears that it does not have a notification LED.

      • just use NoLED app

        • There are 2 apps with the same name. Which one do you use? Do you have a G5 +?

        • +1

@Bystander: version by Manish Burman ver. 6.0.19

This is a good phone if you don't want to go down the China droid route. Good price, decent camera, nice software (quite close to stock). Overall a good buy.

    • +2

Mototola is owned by lenovo which is a Chinese company.

      • +4

Think they meant "Order a cheap android from China" route… even though this is Grey stock.

        It's somehow more legitimate.

      • +1

        Lol

    • +1

I'm thinking of getting this to replace my bootlooped Nexus 5X.. But any recommendations if going down the China droid route instead?

      • Same as u, nexus 5x bootloop. Was thinking redmi note 4

        • I'd go a Redmi Note 4 too if a Kate edition ( B28 ) came out as it did for the RN3 for Taiwan.

In the meanwhile, always tempted to get one of these on sale, although a notification LED feels like it really should be included at this price point.

        • Cheers. I'll add that to my shortlist.

What made you pick redmi note 4 if you don't mind me asking? Camera/screen/battery/cost?

        • +1

          @Blackfyre:

The RN4 is great bang for buck. Probably the main disadvantages are the camera and MIUI (if you're used to stock android with a 5X, and don't want/know how to flash a ROM). Other than that it's a good size, great performance, and has phenomenal battery life.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Lack of B28 could be a deal breaker.. I'm based in a rural location

        • @Blackfyre:

Yep, me too. No point having other features on a phone that does not even get a strong/fast or even sometimes Any signal when lacking B28 support when using Optus or Telstra on your main or even second sim on the RN4.

As this is a must have ( B28 ) for my daily driver, I am very close to pulling the trigger on a Moto G5 Plus that was posted yesterday from eglobal ebay for $304 with a Targeted ebay YOUR25 voucher, or $312.55 with C5OZ voucher also from that deal.

Exactly, I'm on rural roads all the time. Would happily get the RN4 if I'm in metro areas.

After handling the G5+, I actually ended up getting a Moto Z Play ($449 on clearance from Officeworks, and TRS when I head overseas).
$100 more for a bigger screen (I've always wanted more screen than the nexus5x's 5.2"), NFC, battery life.

        • +1

          @Blackfyre:

Thanks for your reply, the Moto Z Play sounds like a great phone for that price with a lovely large amoled screen, great battery life and still only 7mm thin. I really wanted a dual 4G/3G sim phone so for me this was not suitable. Oh, no stock within 100Klm too for me. Ordered a 5G Plus 4GB/32GB for $304 delivered from ebay YOUR25 voucher deal on Monday ( Grey Import, so no TRS for me ).

      • Xiaomi Mi5 or Redmi Note 3/4

  • This is local stock is it not? Says delivered on or before 12th July from Regents Park N.S.W. Australia.

    • +4

Not local stock. Seller is based in Taiwan as per their profile and a known grey importer, the item location is misleading but a common issue that eBay don't appear to care about. Possibly they are drop shipping from NSW so that is technically correct they would argue.

You'll also notice in warranty section:

AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMERS CAN RETURN THEIR ITEM TO SYDNEY. WE WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH LOCAL WARRANTY SERVICES!
Mobiles / Tablets / Laptops will have to be returned to overseas warehouse for service.

      Also it states:

Warranty: Seller warranty, repaired by manufacturer

      Opposed to direct manufacturer warranty.

You'll still receive it quickly however, when I've bought from T-Dimension, DWI etc. it's come by courier from overseas in 4 or 5 days. You are just forgoing Australian Consumer protection on the 12 month warranty, opposed to buying from an Australian retailer.

      • Thanks for clarifying that, great info.

  • grabbed one, thanks OP

Just some feedback regarding the seller and delivery times for those concerned about the time the phone would take to arrive from overseas.

I recently purchased an LG G6 from them as part of the recent eBay sales frenzy.

Placed the order on a Friday and the phone was delivered from overseas via DHL within 4 working days.

Phone carton still had original LG security seal and was well packaged with plenty of bubblewrap.

  • +1

Everytime I heard about G series Phone (especially from qd au) I remembered my Bootlooped LG G4.
    $450 Long gone

  • Nice.

They also have the LG G6 for $541.50 delivered with the 5% off.

My OPO is slowly dying and I'm thinking of this, can't see any issues relating to boot loop on the G6. Is this a bargain at that price?

    • +1

      See here

Was a bit cheaper during the eBay sales, but still a decent price if you don't want to wait it out for the next eBay sale (can't even guess when that would be, might be a while since we had so many before EOFY or might get surprised).

It's a bit cheaper at some other sellers, eg $517.75 at eGlobal Central. They are owned by eGlobal Digital Cameras / DWI. QD might have a better reputation though for warranty, eGlobal/DWI appear okay with short term issues (DOA etc.) but if you claim warranty down the track not so reliable/timely from previous deal comments. Not overly familiar with Quality Deals but their reputation does seem a little better but everyone has good and bad experiences with warranty, as far as shipping the phone to you both are reliable.

      • +1

Thanks, pulled the trigger with QD. The bottom 6-7mm of the touch screen on my OPO no longer work. The capacitive buttons were the first to go and lately the on screen buttons only work if I am actually holding the phone. So I think I need a new phone, it has served me faithfully for a while I got it around launch time too.

I've had an issue with DWI in the past not honouring warranty (DJI Phantom 3 Std - They apparently only honour the battery for 3 months even though it states this nowhere on the Drones sale page, so lodging a claim 3 days past that 3 month window gets you nowhere - going through NSW Dept of Fair Trading at the moment) so needless to say I won't be dealing with them again.

  • This will work on all Australian telcos?

    • Yes

Note that this XT1685 model is the model sold in Australia and comes with all 3G/4G bands suitable for use here.

  • Many thanks OP - Ordered one. Very timely as my daughter broke her phone yesterday and she needed something sturdy (got a SPIGEN Rugged Armor cover to go with it http://www.progadgets.com.au/moto-g5-plus-case-motorola-rugg… ). Cheers :-)

    • Just wondering if you (or anyone else who purchased this deal) had checked your phone to ensure it had 4GB of RAM and not 3GB?

A user received a 3GB version from another grey importer, see here and some websites are showing 3GB instead of 4GB in the specs. Just thought I'd make sure no one else may have had the same thing but not realised it had 3GB of RAM.
