    Flamin' Good Deal

    • Can also be used as a heater. Bargain!

    • Authentic!

    • Just got a 5.5 Kg Simpson top loader for $399

This price is below what I paid, for a box w/ higher capacity.

That should imply I paid more for less… & 30 day Price Guarantee should apply…I doubt it does.

PS Some staff at TGG seem to Hate online orders OR are poorly trained to assist online buyers, at product pick-up OR their online system was set up to implement a "paranoid" model of customer honesty, that req's copying down (rather than confirming) paypal's VERY LENGTHY Transaction Codes, as Customers drum their fingers on the counter).

More than Once: I've been met with cold, unhelpful demands for this or that detail, by someone who hasn't a clue where to suggest I look for it, eg, across all the documents I have to choose from:

      • Order acknowledgement eMail from eBay,
      • Paid your Order from PayPal, &
      • Time to pickup your Order eMail from eBay

New Online customers are expected to Anticipate WHAT detail will be called for, and from which of the above doc'ts to scan (even if one forgets their glasses…), as staff don't seem prepared to ask for the doc't & scan it (or advise appro. where to look for it)…

Among details to be asked - since TGG do NOT seem to use thepick-up code - include:

      • Order no.
      • PayPal trassaction no.
      • Name (eBay or Human… both appear in the doc't set,
& you'll need to have a driver's license that matches
        one of them ;-0)

Maybe it's just SA's TGG that offers No Useful Help, at
such times. In one case, the product was at their off-
      site warehouse…

They had an A4 sheet + map to help your find it, from
      the store…

      • but the street name was wrong!

There's a sign post that lists all the company's in the
area (at the wrong street, but you must know to turn into
that street, go along a while until it connects with the
      street named on the A4-sheet).

Of course, TGG couldn't be bothered to get their name put
      on that sign post!

With all the newcomers to SA (incl Refugees+students) set-
ting up homes & needing items that TGG sell, you'd think
they'd want to save staff time by simplifying their tasks,
training them better to provide helpful clues, on where to
find needed details & being prepared when some1's eBay
name is different from the name on their driver's license.

And to be checking their map handouts… & street names… for
      errors, omissions, etc.

But no… Locals who are familiar with TGG routines & loca-
tions might find their way thru such mazes quickly, while
newbies, first-time online shoppers, et al. slowly peruse
all the documents, get No Joy from the "pickup code" that
speed folks thru queues at OTHER shops' pickup locations.

Good Guys, you gotta lotta POTANTIAL for IMPROVEMENT here!

Compare your buying rituals to one of the best on-line Services
      I've found (so far):

      • app AliExpress

and see how much better TGG could be.

Hey, maybe become a Vendor on AliExpress, as a workarond, ie,
until your IT folks can fix all that's dreadfully WRONG or
Training-Dependent (while staff don't seem to care to look-
after training to improve TGG's level of Customer Support
that they are just Not providing)

      But no…

      • tl;dr

  • Perfect deal for Winter.

Who still buys Top Loaders?? It's not the 1950s any more…

    • +1

those who dont want a load of washing to take 2 hrs to complete

      • +1

        What?

My front loader does a full wash in 45 minutes and also has a fast wash at 15/30 minutes.

        • maybe things have changed, but when i read the manual for a specific front loader I was considering previously, it stated fast washes were only applicable if you have a very small load (i.e. 1/3 or 1/4 of the max load capacity), you can't use the fast wash function at full capacity.

        • -1

          @JetLi:

Even a full load only takes 45 minutes.

There's nothing better about a top loader than a front loader apart from capacity.

Pretty much everything else a front loader does much better.

        • @Scab: No worries, thanks for the info, will definitely consider a front loader next time, the only thing that deterred me in the past was the on average 2 hr wash times and not having the ability for a quicker wash at full capacity.

      • My washing machine normal cycle yes is just under 2 hours - I use this only if the load is quite dirty.

For regular washing, there's a "Daily Wash" which takes 50 minutes…and can take a full load (ie not half or anything). I know super quick washes 15 minutes has to be half load only, but really that cycle is for emergency I reckon - you can't wash and rinse properly in 15 minutes.

I've found in my experience from top loaders - they are harsher on clothes, use more water, and clothes come out less-clean (look at Choice magazine cleaning results comparison). I can back this up that my aunt had a top loader for years, I convinced her when it broke to go front loader, and suddenly all the grey socks came out white again. She couldn't believe it…

        • OK, that's good to know, will reconsider front loaders when my top loader breaks down. Yes, the pros of front loaders are they use less water and washed the clothes cleaner, however, I thought the trade off was the longer wash times (i.e. 2 hrs for a standard wash) to allow for this.

        • @JetLi:

They've come a long way in the last few years, the better models also have a pause function so you can add clothes, which was one of their main drawbacks.

        • @Scab: Out of curiosity, can a equivalent capacity front loader take the same amount of clothes as a top loader? (i.e. can say a 7kg front loader fit the same amount of clothes as a 7kg top loader in one wash?)

        • @JetLi:

No, that's the only real drawback.

My 7KG front is probably about the same as a 5KG top loader.

I also find that overloading a front makes them not clean as well because they use such little water and don't have an agitator.

So if you're buying one I'd probably get it a couple of KGs larger than what you would get as a top loader.

        • Was the top loader with/without an agitator?

I find with an agitator, the clothes come out very clean.

        • @spawnlaeer:

Problem is the agitator is really harsh on clothes and causes lint.

And they still don't wash as well as a front loader.

        • Front loaders turn towels into boards and take forever. The timer on mine says 1hr 25min for a standard wash, but it takes well over 2 hours. When it says 1min left it actually takes 13. They use less water; but your actual water usage is bugger all in a water bill and you pay way more in extra electricity usage. Top loaders FTW!

        • @Consumer Sheep:

Easy to solve the towel issue, use vinegar in the softener dispenser.

Cheap, effective and also kills mould.

And my timer is fairly accurate, but it does depend on things like the load and water pressure.

I can do a normal wash in about 45 mins.

    • Those [tall] folks, who want to help their backs stay Healthy ;-)

  • I wonder if this is out side of the recall product?

    http://www.samsung.com/au/washingmachinerecall/

    • Yes, this washing machine is not affected by the recall. I checked before I bought mine.

  • I have this washing machine. It cleans well and I have had it for almost 2 years now. But if I have to choose again, I would probably not buy this washing machine again, mainly it is missing one very important function. It doesn't have a timer function. This means you can't schedule it to start the night before and put out your laundry first thing in the morning. Not sure if that is important to you, but you have been warned!

    • First. World. Problems.

  • I have the 5.5kg version. Only (minor) gripe is that shirt sleeves and pant legs frequently get tangled. Never had this with other top or front-load machines.

  • +1

I've got the 8.5kg model and it does a great job, highly recommended.
