Good price, $12 shipping to my place.
    But these look ugly =\
Then again, don't judge by looks.. even though everyone does..

    • +2

They are extremely comfortable though. And really, they're headphones. They're not meant to be attractive. :P

Great price for these in AU really.

      • -4

        I beg to differ :P
Headphones are a fashion accessory these days (especially amongst younger people and/or users of public transport)

        • +2

You don't use open headphones on public transport or on the go.

          • -2

@bobjane: Yes, but even at home, you'd rather not have something you consider ugly lying around, or rather, you'd prefer the things in your home to be pleasing to your eye, and any guests you may have.

    • I have pair and I'm convinced that they are designed from the ground up for practicality and not looks.
Lightweight and comfortable like pillows on my head and then there's the very nice sound quality.

Sure it's purple, but after you use them you'll never care about looks again.

      • and it's not often people will tease and say things like "Nice purple headphones! Do they make them for men?"
It's only happened to me a couple of times while wearing these headphones.

        • -1

          You wear them outside?

          • @shaun-o: nope, at LANs, they are way to big to be walking around outside with.

    • +1

The "better looking" or trendier headphones tend to be made by companies with a focus on marketing their products to the younger generation. Skullcandy, dr dre - you're paying a premium simply because they are "fashionable" (subjective) or because they have a famous name attached to them.

For the same money, you can get better sounding headphones. I've been waiting for a compromise between aesthetics and sound for two years now, but it just doesn't happen. Many of the established headphone companies don't really place an emphasis on looks.

There is a higher end wooden audio technica that fits my requirements, but I'm not about to carry an amp around with me lol

        Trying to get sennheisers :)

  • These one of the best set of 'open' headphones <$200. I have owned a set for the last 12 months, paid $193.00 including shipping, so this is a very decent price.

  • I bought these with the 50% Ebay Paypal offer on Friday, cant wait for the delivery.

  • +2

    Worth it at $199 each
DEFINATELY worth it at $149 each

    • +1
This is a good deal on a nice set of headphones.

They are quite large and may feel too big on some people - including me (thin head) but they will stay on and are very comfortable - I sometimes forget I'm wearing them.
Also, the cable is just the right thickness for the Zalman clip on mic (~$10) if you are into online gaming.

  • WOW! PCCG is awesome. I have these headphones. They are the most comfortable ones you'll ever wear, you forget they're on your head. Sound is the best too, a lot of times I turn around to see what that noise is, then I find out it was from the game or something.

  • +3

Surely the best mid-ranged price headphone without the need of an amp. Note that, it's an open headphone so if you turn the music a bit higher, your colleague may be able to hear the music that you are currently listening to. May be wise not to listen to Lady Gaga or Justin Beiber… :)

    • Unless your colleague is gay..

  • it is comfortable to wear and sound quality is good, but does anyone can tell if it can cope with the noise outside competently? thinking to buy one but not sure how the sounds will be like if I travel on the train? Thanks.

    • I have a pair of these and IMHO I don't think they're suitable for using on the go. They're great headphones but I wouldn't even consider taking them outside of my house. Apart from being massive, the above comments about these being open headphones should be stressed. Even when you have them at a low volume, anyone sitting near you will be able to hear what you're listening to.

      • Thanks. Don't realize the open one can send the music so far away. mmm…I have to keep looking for a closed one..

  • Great headphones and a stellar price! I love my Audio Technicas

  • These are excellent headphones at a awesome price. They're not the prettiest things in the world unlike fancy Steel series gaming headphones but I assure in sound and build quality these will blow you away.

Not to mention the "3D wing support system" isn't just marketing jumbo. These headphones will sit on your head and auto adjust themselves, they are generally very comfy headphone and won't leave you fatigued feeling after long sessions due to comfort levels and the fact that they are an open set.

I own the model up and the only real difference I can see between the AD900 and the AD700 is a price tag and from what I've heard quite a decent sound quality jump but you can't go wrong at $150.

  • +3

Seems OK deal on surface but genuine article is cheaper on ebay + fast postage. $129.95 + $14.95 postage.

The purple colour is a bit gaudy but you can't see your headphones when your using them so whats it matter. Unless your a poser who listens to tunes while walking down the street, in that case there too big anyway.

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700-HEADPHON…

    • since when does listening to music while walking down the street make you a poser?

      • When you use rediculous looking headphones with craptastic sound quality, or huge beheamoths with AWESOME sound quality like this while on the move.

If you're gonna listen to music on the go, do everyone a favour and use closed headphones that aren't the size of Mount Everest or use earphones please, and for the LOVE OF GOD TURN YOUR MUSIC DOWN!!!

(I'm sorry, that last bit might not apply to everyone, and if it offends you I'm sorry, but seriously some people need to either get their hearing checked, or GET THEIR HEARING CHECKED!)

        • +1

Well I definitely agree on the volume; I find it worrying when I can hear the music coming from a pair of ibuds across the train carriage, and anyone using open headphones on the go are just condemning themselves to early deafness.

Regarding aesthetics though, large or small, fancy or not, I say each to their own. They could look huge and have awesome sound quality, but if you like the look of them, why not wear them out? There's bound to be people who like them as well as people who think you're a "poser," but everyone has their own taste.

I merely feel sorry for those people running a fantastic-looking yet power-hungry headphone out of an ipod because they don't know any better.

  • I got mine from eBay awhile back for 145, so this price isn't really that great. But definitely the best headphones for it's price.

  • +1

You can usually get anything cheaper on Ebay, if you want to take a risk. At least with PCCG you'll get great after sales support. You won't have to post it overseas for any warranty related issues.

  • sorry to be a bit of dumbass, which one is better ? Dr. Dre Solo or this one ?

    • Audio Technica, Hands down for sound quality. Check Head-fi forum if you want more info.

      • Dr Dre Solo is more of a marketing gimme IMO, trying to get good sound quality to the masses and making some cash at the same time.
AD700s hands down anyday, and these things have been out for years, at least 2 years. Just wondering when will these be replaced….

    • How are you going to use it? The ad700s are not suited to use outside the house. If you get the solos, get the solo hd - they're supposedly better in sound and build quality than the normal solos. If you're only using them at home, get the ad700s

  • these are a great set of headphones! if i already didnt have a pair i would definitely go for this deal!

  • Are these actually any use even with Realtek HD 7.1 integrated motherboard sound? I've heard that these aren't really any benefit without a good separate soundcard (which I won't be getting yet).

    • Doesn't matter the sound difference between these and your average run of the mill headphones will blow you away even if you use an average sound source. Better way to get the most of out of these if you're stuck with integrated is update your music to the highest quality you can, ie 320kbps or FLAC, and you will definately hear the difference.

      • Can't say I agree.

I was using a $30~ pair of headphones for ages, and I just bought these babies (AD700's) the other day.
For the price difference, I cannot say the increase in quality was substantial enough.

I'm using onboard sound and high quality (320kbps) music.

However- took them to my mate's place and tried them on his $200 soundcard. It sounded a LOT better.

But you have to keep in mind, headphones need to burn in. Supposed to take over 100 hours before they start sounding their best. And they are amazingly comfortable. So I won't say I'm unhappy just yet - I'll wait and see :)

  • These headphones are ok, not great or good.

    • Great for the price.

  • +4

They are generally considered the best headphones in this price range.

But it is $130 SHIPPED if you buy it in US due to strong AUD. Try Amazon, shipped to Brisbane in about 4 days!

    • Amazon ships to Australia? I swear it was US only!

      • +1

They do ship some things, but at a cost of like $40 for international shipping lol, but it is around $130 shipped as he says thanks to the good AUD :D

        • Thanks for the tip mate, just picked up a pair from Amazon, ended up costing $137.29 delivered.

Now all I need is an Astro Mixamp so I can hear footsteps in Call Of Duty!

  • Rather pissed off I didn't look into these headphones a bit more.
I just caved and bought them off headphones.com.au for $199.

Now I see them here for $149, and on Ebay for around the same price.
    Epic fail :x

    • You can return stuff to Headphones.com.au. You just pay return shipping.

Anyone wanna buy my used but as new-in-box Shure SRH840?

  • Got these, love these!

Yeah Im another one who bought it from the US of A last year. It was US$79 because of some Amazon promotion. Used PriceUSA and was happy!

  • they should be better then most of ur gimmick headphones. but u dont listen to mp3s with those. get a sound card with Asio support $20 + portable amp $30-$50. then play loss less music such as .flac .ape and ur ears will thank u.

    • portable amps in that price range would be either the fiio e3 or e5 and they do barely anything, more likely just a volume boost than anything.
