Literally just bought this for $479 this weekend…
    From an AU retailer

    • Seems to be what it averages locally for me as well, But this is almost $70 aud cheaper.

I got one for $450 from local seller during ebay sales.
Note that it does not come with the fan so make sure get one to cool your cpu down.
I received my order and got excited to upgrade my pc until realised that I did not have the fan lol

  • Stock available 15 July so tack on another 2-3 weeks for delivery, won't arrive until late July/early August.

Just in time for the release of Coffee Lake lol

  • should I upgrade 6700K to 7700K?

    • Don't think so. Speed wise, you won't gain much to justify the cost. Have a look at passmark.

Unless you need some features, like 4K native support

If you have to ask no.

    • No, the upgrade from Skylake to Kaby Lake is not worth it. There's minimal IPC difference and you'll get approximately 2-300mhz of overclocking headroom.

Not really, I have a I7-2600 sitting in my other rig and it handles everything perfectly. high end CPU's general have a useful life of roughly 7 years. So ask again in 5 years.

      • wow, thanks guys, and it means Intel sucks $$$ with so call 'new' or next gens lol

        • Was tossing up an upgrade recently for my old g3258 rig. I was going to do a new MB ram CPU. Then I found a i7-4770 cpu on Gumtree for $150. So much easier than formatting, reinstalling windows all that jazz. And really for my purposes, as good as a basic i5 upgrade without the expense. Also the power consumption savings of upgrading aren't there. My PC is always on so it's a consideration.

  • Any good motherboard deals?

Managed to find a Gigabyte AORUS Z270X-Gaming K5 for around $230 AUD shipped, I am not sure as to warranty but apparently there is a $20 USD mail in rebate.

That would bring it down to under $200 AUD if rebate works.

  • If anyone has problems getting this to ship to Australia, don't use the Estimate Shipping and Tax function. I get a message "Some of the items in your order cannot be shipped to the selected address." Instead, just proceed to checkout where you can see the shipping before committing.

I just ordered some other kit and got stuck on this for a while. Live Chat was no help. In the end I just proceeded to the checkout and placed the order … currently at "Preparing for Shipment".
