The prime deal is done but now the normal price has been lowered to US$187.21 (~aud$244) delivered.

Avoid the Amazon Currency converter by paying with 28 Degrees or other cc sans international transaction fees. You'll have to explicitly change this during checkout to ensure you pay in USD.

You'll have to get in quick if you want to get this as the deal expires at 5pm AEST. Limit of 1 per customer. I signed up for Amazon Prime for a 1 month free trial just to grab one.

The standard comments warning about Seagate drives and avoiding the Amazon Currency converter (use 28 Degrees or other Credit Card without international transaction fees) can be seen/added below :)

    • That's strange. Are you sure you only had one item in the cart? Mine definitely went through at US$166.20

    • Use USD and an international transaction fee free card like 28 Degrees

      • Ohh OK - nah I don't have one of those… Still a good price?

        • Yeah for sure, cheapest is like $419 at Jb Hifi.
If you're in the market, grab one.

        • I could of bought one of these…
…if I didn't spend all my money last night on Hookers, Beer and d…..

JUST JOKING BABY !!! Busted lol

    • Change your order when checking out to USD instead of AUD. I got

Should have also added the standard clause about using a 28Degrees or similar card and not using Amazon's AUD conversion.

Right you are. I've added a brief note.

  • Even as an Aussie its so handy to have a prime membership on a US based website.

    • Btw, what are the advantages to have this prime membership? Many thank's for the explanations, :)

      • +1

Main advantages are deals, discounted shipping, great offers like this one and further discounts on regular items. If you buy alot of crap online such as games, phones, headphones, gfx cards etc then Prime will pay itself off in a few months. But if you are a casual buyer, like 4 times a year then i dont recommend.

        • How much is the shipping to Australia using Prime?

  • what drives are inside these?

    • +2

If they're the same as the ones I shucked last year they'll be 'Archive' drives. Other OzBargainers bag them out but I've had no issues with two running in an mirrored config for an offsite backup NAS. Bit slower to write stuff to them but apart from that mine have been fine.

    • +2

Pretty sure it's the seagate archive SMR drive. https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/4wo26l/seagate…

      • +1

i just recieved mine from when i bought it last month and it contained the ST8000DM004

    • Worth a read.
So my £120 / $150 Prime Day Seagate 8TB Drives arrived and they aren't Archive SMR Woohoo!
Seems like Seagate got too much bad press over the shingles, so they've changed the name.

      • Looks like they are still shingled although Seagate is now calling it "TGMR" which they helpfully don't provide any information on. The archive ones are also "TGMR" rather than PMR so I'm 99% sure that they are still shingled.

  • Awesome price for the HDD, was about to get the 5TB portable deal and I saw this, :). Thanks OP for sharing!

Hope you got it in time!

  • I bought the Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8TB this morning for USD$160 (AUD$239 delivered). Would have bought this instead to save $20. Oh well. Hopefully it's a better Hard Drive inside.

  • OMG.. missed it by 2 minutes. Thanks OP.

  • Any issues with shucking the drive and installing into a NAS? Other than voiding warranty.

    • +4

It's an Archieve drive with SMR technology

      • Eww, thanks :)

  • Was tempted to post this when I saw it, yesterday, but the 1 per customer limit annoyed me and put me off.

  • great price

could run 8tb raid if they let you buy 2 per person

  • It says expired but I got it for $239.00 delivered Im happy. thanks.

  • It's back up again I paid 250 with express shipping

  • What's the warranty situation like?

  • sold.

  • Good deal, got it last time it was on special. Mine had the Seagate Archive Drive ST8000AS0002 going great so far in a seeding torrent box.

  • Just a quick note, you are not guaranteed an Archive drive. Last time this deal was posted https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/311055 some people were getting ST8000DM004

There is a bit of info on this drive but not enough, it may be a better drive in fact.

  • Does anyone know what are the differences between STEB8000100 (8Tb - USD$174) and STDT8000100 (8Tb - USD$350)?
The same capacity but they are too much different in prices.

    STEB8000100 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HAPGEIE
    STDT8000100 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00R45V3SW/ref=dp_ol…

    • +1

STDT8000100 is an older model, not sold by Amazon anymore (only third party providers). The new model is STEL8000100

  • Does anyone have any feedback about taking the case off and putting this hard drive in your desktop?

    • Easily done. I just used a screw driver and gently lifted. I was able to take it off quite easily.

  • Can anyone confirm if they received an archive drive in these?

  • Warranty…? It looks it only has 2 years while a 20 bucks more expensive WD 8TB My Book Desktop External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBBGB0080HBK-NESN has 3 years!!! It also seems to have a better HD inside. Possibly HGST?
